She smiled softly in her direction. "You can discuss this until you're blue in the face and you will never know, because emotions are rather unpredictable. They make you do things that you wouldn't rationally and logically do. That's why they are emotions. We make all sort of decision that we otherwise wouldn't based on those emotions, because no matter how irrational, they are right."
Marlene reached over and squeezed her hand. "I think, and this is just a guess on my part, that if you think of yourself as the mother, then you will have feelings no matter how much you tell yourself that logically you aren't. My mother used to call our fathers a biological necessity. If that's what you see yourself as, if when you think of these children, you can truly say that you wouldn't think them as yours, then I think you should be okay, but I think that being that detached isn't as easy as it sounds."
