Summary: Remus hits a road block in his personal research.
Lion and Snake, a Collection of Essays on the Relationship between Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin lay open on the couch where Remus had been reading it thirty minutes earlier. After collecting a number of volumes from the Hogwarts Library, Remus had sent a list of their titles to Flourish & Blotts on a rush order that was delivered just before the school closed for the holiday, allowing him to bring several titles along to the house for reading when they weren't involved in other things -- like impromptu trips to the farmhouse to give love advice to the woman who'd sent him a naked picture of herself for his birthday less than a month ago.
To borrow the vernacular - Mental, that one.
But, reading through the collection of essays that afternoon, he had stumbled across when that had at first amused him and then intrigued him as it gave him ideas for his own personal dilemna -- finding a way to make a life with the stubbornly traditional man who had decorated this library for him. The book and the essay it contained were both relatively new studies, containing theories and suppositions that were very common to the this new time with it's acceptance of all things in sexuality. Whether there was any truth to the deeper than friendship relations the author of the essay put forth or not was a matter for history, he supposed, or Gryffindor and Slytherin themselves if the castle decided to bring them back from the dead.
Still, it had sent Remus on a search of the library, looking for journals or other Black family records that might be housed there. He had two thoughts on how to proceed with his self-appointed mission, either of which would benefit from getting to know Regulus and Sirius' ancestors a little better.
Which was how the book on the two Hogwarts founders who had started the entire war of the houses when their own friendship fell apart now lay open on the couch and Remus stood frowning at several books on the upper level of the library -- books behind glass, which he had been told would likely have dire consequences if touched by someone whose blood wasn't pure. The problem was, there was a row of books that appeared to be exactly the sort of journals he was looking for.
Now, that could be camouflage, of course, tempting the unwary. Just as the real journals and histories could be camouflaged as something else in another section of the library. He hadn't gotten as far in his search as looking for illusions on the books. This was just a cursory look. With his luck, these weren't even the journals or histories and those were likely housed in some family vault the way he'd stored his father's papers during his own lifetime -- completely out of his reach.
Yet, apparently, to confirm the veracity of those titles, he was going to have to get one of the others to look at the books for him.
Damn.
