Summary: Charlotte's funeral
Theo hated mass on any normal day. The only times he subjected himself to them was on larger holidays and occasions where his absence would be highly noticed. Today was one of the latter situations, so he was there, because his daughter and wife and son needed him to be. Personally he found this mass to be the worst one he'd ever attended and he wanted nothing more than to leave and escape to the solitude of the manor where it was only him and the family and he didn't need all the masks he was now wearing.
As they moved from mass to burial things did not improve. He watched with a stoic expression on his face as the coffin was lowered into the ground, wanting to turn and leave because these rituals had nothing to do with who his daughter was in life. He didn't of course, though he was relieved when it was over, when there was nothing more than waiting for people to leave. He knew there was still socialising to do, still condolences to accept, but that he could do with a straight face in his sleep, no matter how much he was breaking inside. Playing his part, he spoke to those who approached, thanked them for their thoughts and prayers or whatever else they offered, and counted the minutes before it was all over.
