Rodolphus sat in the arboretum in Lestrange Manor, reading the Daily Prophet and having his breakfast before he began the day's work. Beside him on a small table sat a tea pot, a steaming cup of tea and a plate holding a couple of slices of toast and a few pieces of fruit. The food and drink were currently being ignored in favour of the newspaper, specifically the front page of the newspaper.
"How interesting," Rodolphus murmured when he finally set aside the paper and turned his attention to the breakfast his house elves had prepared.
The news that Filius Flitwick had died stirred no particular emotion within him. He remembered the man as a teacher of course but Flitwick’s politics had been disappointing. Though given the likelihood was high that Flitwick had not been entirely human, his liberal political leanings had not been overly surprising.
So now Narcissa was looking to install Astoria as Headmistress. Interesting. He was sure that his sister-in-law had a reason for it. He would have to find out. Not now but soon. He rather felt it would be something of an uphill battle for her. Astoria was on the Board of Governors, not a teacher, and Hogwarts had a history of elevating a teacher into that position. Governors tended not to understand the complexities of running a school.
He sipped at his tea as he contemplated what move he should make. There was no rush at the moment and he would need to consider his options carefully. It may well be that his best option would be to remain silent openly and give his support subtly. Open support from a former Death Eater, even a pardoned one, might not he considered acceptable. Of course, if that was the case then he might well want to put his ‘support’ behind the opposition candidate and scupper their campaign.
A tiny smirk flitted across his face at that thought. There was more than one way to skin a cat. He would consider his options, contact Narcissa and then make his decision. Patience was much more than a virtue, it was a winning strategy.
