RP: A meeting of the Lillies
Who: Lily Potter and Lily Potter.
Where: Godric's Hollow
When: After school
Rating/Warnings: None
Summary: Lily Luna finally finds a moment with her grandmother.

Lily pulled out a sheaf of notes, looking them over, then turned back to her essay. She liked to do her homework here, curled into the corner of the sofa, book propped on the arm, rather than at the table. No idea why. Maybe it was the warm crackle of the fire. Maybe it was because she could curl her toes into the crack between the cushions.

Her writing filled half the scroll quickly; she was good at charms, and liked the subject too, which made it easy to explain her thoughts and describe what she imagined the theory behind charms would be. Not that they were necessarily right, but she was usually pretty close...

She flipped through notes again, continuing for a while longer, then set her work aside and stretched. It was still early-ish, a while before dinner, but her stomach reminded her that she hadn't eaten much at lunch. She'd got busy chatting with Maria and comparing Transfiguration homework, and they'd been surprised by the signal to return to class.

And there were cookies in the kitchen.

Lily padded down to the kitchen, intending to just grab her snack, but paused at the sight of the young woman in the room. Her grandmother. How completely odd. She hadn't really had the chance to talk to her much. Lily supposed she was overwhelmed, and resting a lot? Plus, she'd been at school, herself... She hesitated, then headed for the cupboard.

"I was just going to take a study break for cookies." She pulled down the container and took off the lid. "Want some?"

Lily had just sent off an owl to Severus, to ask for his help on Jamie's behalf. Harry had told her what happened, about the hex and the forced potion, and she was almost half amused that nothing had changed in forty-odd years. If the situation weren't so serious, she would have been more amused, as well as annoyed.

She put it out of her mind for now. She couldn't do anything until she heard back from Severus, and even then she wasn't sure exactly what she could do. She would try though, because Harry had asked her to. And despite everything, despite still missing her baby as she would a limb, he was her son.

Lost in thought, she didn't notice she had company until the girl spoke. She turned and smiled at the young woman, thinking that she looked very like her father, with different colored hair. "I think as your grandmother I'm supposed to point out that cookies before dinner will ruin your appetite." Despite that, she reached out and snagged a couple for herself. "I won't tell if you won't."

Lily laughed. "As your granddaughter, I'd have to argue that dinner's still ages away." She set the container on the table, pulling one out, munching on it as she pulled glasses from the cupboard, filling them both with milk, not bothering to ask if the other Lily wanted some. Of course she did. Cookies.

She brought them to the table and took another cookie, plopping ungracefully into a chair. "So. Grand-James and I had an interesting meeting when he got back. You kind of slipped in. Are you doing okay?"

"Thanks." Lily took the glass of milk and tucked her legs under her on the chair. "I guess a couple of cookies won't hurt anything."

She had to laugh when the younger girl mentioned the night James had come back. "He told me. I have to say, I fully approve of his getting his arse handed to him by a little girl," she said, grinning. She knew how difficult and emotional that night had been for James, but there was good in among the bad as well.

"It's getting easier each day I think."

"Huh. I'm not a little girl." She took a drink of milk, giving Lily a look. "But to him, I guess. Whatever. It was scary, and I did what felt right. Of course, Dad thinks I should have hexed first and asked questions later."

She finished off her cookie and considered, then took one more.

"Good. I know Dad's glad you're here, but it must be really weird. He was a baby, right? I mean, the last you saw, and then he's old. And there's us. Me and Jamie and Al..." She tucked her hair behind her ear, looking at Lily with interest.

"Grand-James says I look like you did, when you were my age."

She laughed at the look, and shrugged. "No, I guess not. But you would be to James." She sobered when Lily said that things had been scary, but she knew that they had been just as bad for James. "He's probably not wrong, about hexing first."

She nodded, and nibbled on the cookie before answering. "It's hard, to adjust. But...it's getting easier." At least she didn't wake up every hour anymore, listening for her baby.

"Yes, I think we do look a lot alike."

Lily laughed. "Yeah, but as much as everyone says 'hex first', they're all glad that I didn't."

She finished her cookie, then reached for another. "If you ever feel like just taking a walk or something, I'd go with you," she offered, then gave a wry smile. "If that's not lame or anything. I know you've got grown-up stuff to think about, but I'm not exactly nine or anything, and..." She shrugged. "Maybe it'd take your mind off stuff, at least..."

Lily took a sip of milk, then smiled. "I didn't get green eyes, though. But I guess Grand-James couldn't tell in the dark." She chewed at her lower lip, then grinned. "But it's cool, you know? No doubt that we're family."

She had to laugh as well, and agree with the statement. "I guess I'm among them. But if it had been anyone else but James, well." She supposed no one liked to think about that, and couldn't blame them.

She hesitated after finishing the cookie, and then reached for another herself. She smiled at the younger girl, realizing that she might have been secluding herself too much this past week. She'd had a lot to get used to though, and was still working through the anxiety of waking up forty years in the future. "Thank you, that would be nice."

"It seems only your brother Al inherited my eyes," she said. Harry's eyes, and maybe that was why she found it rather more difficult to talk to Albus Severus than she did Lily or James Sirius. And what did that make her? "There is no doubt about that."

Lily picked at her cookie, dipping bits into her milk. "Yeah. Al's got nice eyes. Like Dad's." She smiled, then shrugged. "Mine are like Grandmama's. I used to think they were boring brown, until Grandad told me they looked like Honeydukes best. I liked that..."

She finished off her cookie and picked up the milk. "So. Sincerely? If you want to just get away from the dorky boys and go someplace quiet, I'll go with you. Show you around, or whatever. I can be quiet if I work at it, I promise."

Lily got to her feet. "And I've still got Charms to finish. But yeah. Anytime, okay?"

Which is why it's hard to look at him, Lily thought, but didn't voice it outloud. It made her feel sick with guilt to even be thinking like that, but she didn't know how to fix it.

She was glad that Lily Luna moved on, and even grinned when she called the men in the house dorky. "That sounds nice," she said, sincerely. She got up when Lily did, and gave her a quick hug, surprising them both.

"If you need help, I think I'll be in the garden for awhile. It's not too cold out, and some of those bushes need trimming." She smiled again, and headed to get a cloak, thinking that it had been very nice having cookies with her granddaughter.
