RP: The Dark Lord and the Rat
Who: Lord Voldemort, Peter Pettigrew
Where: Diagon Alley, a remote location in the English countryside
When: 15 November, 2024
Rating/Warnings:
Summary: Lord Voldemort decides it's time to take Potter's bait.

The past two weeks since Dumbledore's return had been trying on Voldemort. Dumbledore was the only one who could stop Him, and that knowledge frustrated the Dark Lord to no end. Finally, He had decided it was time to determine just how faithful a particular traitor might be.

Voldemort knew about Peter Pettigrew's past from the October Prophet and the history books (or at least what was in them about Pettigrew). He also believed this was designed to trap to Him. He guessed the Ministry hoped to lure Him and Peter into a meeting and then spring a trap. Whether He was right or was being paranoid was of no consequence to Voldemort, He would meet with Peter without risk to His own life and if He took several aurors out in the process, then that was fine.

The wizard was middle-aged and fragile. So weak. So easy to manipulate.

Imperio, Voldemort thought and then ordered the stranger to do His bidding. The stranger walked to Peter Pettigrew's flat and delivered a package.

In the package was a wizarding chess piece and a note. The note, written in ancient runes, read, "Break the piece. The satisfaction of your desires await.." Voldemort had guessed of Pettigrew's passion for runes from the public records.

After placing the stranger under the imperius curse, Voldemort portkeyed to the meeting location and awaited Peter's arrival. The house was protected by the fidelius in addition to being unplottable and unobservable to Muggles. Voldemort knew the tracking charms that He guessed were in place on Pettigrew would lead any aurors to the general vicinity of the meeting place. But He also knew that there was no way they could gain access to the building without His consent.

Either the man would show and thus begin to prove his loyalty to the Dark Empire or the man would not show and prove his allegiance was to the status quo.

"See how much easier life is when you just do as I ask, Peter?" Voldemort said in response to Peter's explanation of Jacob Selwynn. He didn't care that Peter was gay. Voldemort never saw much use to keeping or maintaining that social taboo.

"And how would you react if Jacob returned from the dead?" Voldemort needed to know if Peter would pose a threat. Granted, He had no idea if Jacob would return or if Jacob would remain loyal to the Dark Empire.

Peter snorted, but he couldn't argue with that. He also dind't know how to answer Lord Voldemort's question. He thought for a moment, finishing off the plate of food and thinking he hadn't been so full since before he'd left Hogwarts.

"I don't know," he finally said. "I try not to hope for things that will likely never happen." He sighed and looked at Voldemort, careful not to make eye contact. "Why does that matter?"

Peter avoided His eyes, which meant the wizard was learning, albeit slower than any useful servant would. "It matters, Peter, because if you stood in the way of one of my servants returning to Me, then you and I would have a problem. You don't want us to have a problem, do you?"

Voldemort rose. "You may come and go from this house, apparating in and out as you please. I have not removed the tracking charms from you, for to do so would raise even more suspicion than you being somewhere they cannot find. As slow as the Ministry is, they will eventually work out that you are in a fidelius charmed building and will suspect you of acquaintance with a wizard powerful enough to cast such a spell. Serve Lord Voldemort well, and you may keep coming to this house. Cross Him and you will know more pain than you could ever imagine."

The Dark Lord disapparated, without so much as a pop, before Peter could respond.
