Summary: Colin swears he was just facing down a Death Eater, and now suddenly he's not sure where he is
Colin knew he probably should have stayed at home, it would have been safer there. His parents wanted him to stay - and yet he couldn't. Things were finally happening, after over a year of hiding with his family today might actually be the day when things would change when they could go back to school, when they could stop worrying about being found - he couldn't just stay home for that. And so he'd gone, made his way through the portrait in the Hogshead into the Room of Requirement and into the rest of the castle.
Things were moving much faster than he realized they would - he was calling on all the skills he'd learned in the DA from Harry as he fought his way with other group of students. Now though Colin would do his best, he could do that. He didn't know some of the more advanced spells but he could defend himself. he battle went on and on, and Colin didn’t think it would ever stop. He was running across the grass outside the school, shooting spells over his shoulder as he went, evading those being shot at him. His lungs were aching, and his muscles burning; he just wanted all of it to be over. Harry would save the day – he always did.
He got separated from the group he'd been fighting with, on his own suddenly in the middle of this battle. And suddenly a spell flashed towards him, though he managed to duck in time as it flew past his head. Oh gods, he'd been spotted, and suddenly all the fighting that was going on around him faded into the back of his mind as instead he focused on the man who stood across the field from him. Colin could feel the spells and magic crackling through the air around him, as he took a breath focusing on his opponent. He could do this, he could hold his own he knew it.
The death eater considered Colin for a moment before he raised his own wand. Colin thought briefly of Harry Potter, and smiled, bolstered by the thought that they would win. And then he thought of his parents – his mum and his dad. Cormac, He wondered if he were there, probably Cormac would be there - he hoped he was safe. And then Dennis, Dennis would be at home protecting their family, just as Colin was here protecting their way of life.
And with that final thought he raised his own wand as he rushed at the death eater standing in front of him, shooting of spell after spell, everything he could think of. Colin Creevey was through running. He wasn’t a coward – he was there facing his enemy the way he’d been taught. He was ready to look into his destiny, his fate, face-to-face.
A flash of green and Colin knew it was over, knew this was going to be the end, he yelled as he barreled towards the other man wand eyes closed.
The hit never came though, he never felt the spell, or the man whom he should have run into by this point. It was quieter now, the heat of fires and spells was gone, Colin stopped running and opened his eyes, still gripping his wand tight. it was the middle of the afternoon. Not night the way he knew it had been only a moment ago - this didn't make sense. Was this some sort of new spell, where was everyone ... was this what it was like to die? Though if he died and went to Hogwarts, well that just didn't seem fair.
"Hello?" He called out, after he decided he couldn't just roam around, he'd take his chances by calling out.
