”What do you mean he’s tracking you with it?”
Her voice raised above a furious whisper as her thoughts were drawn to the warm arm pressed against her own. He was so close and yet…mentally shaking her head she forced those thoughts away. Emeralds hues met with the crystal he was holding. Whoever was chasing them had the ability to tap into the crystal’s energy. She wouldn’t be able to break it on her own, which left her with only one option. Damn.
“I have no choice, you can yell at me later.”
Lux didn’t exactly explain what it was she would be doing though nor would she give him the time to question her as she gave him the familiar look he would be so accustomed to. Reaching back inside her jacket, she pulled out the crystal drop he had given to her that faithful night. He would of course notice, how could he not? In order for the spell to work, she needed to connect with him. What better way to do so than by using the exact same crystal he had created out of thin air with his own magic?
With both crystals in hand, she grabbed the wrist of his outstretched hand. Channeling her abilities she allowed her subconscious to leave her body. While in Boston, she had learned the true gift of her family’s abilities—a lost art. If something was blocking his own abilities, perhaps she could bypass the wall and access them herself. Eyes shut closed, she strained to push further—stress lines forming on her forehead as she concentrated with everything that she had. They had little time, as he would feel her energy pouring from her hand, drawing his power from him from the recesses of his mind.
“Shatter!”
A firm whisper escaped her lips above the cold winter wind. In a blink of an eye the crystal burst into a small explosion leaving the shattered shards on the ground twinkling in the light. Her legs immediately grew weak as she stumbled from the withdrawal. Teeth gritted, she still wasn’t accustomed to it. She panted for air as she tried to steady herself.
“We need to get out of here now.”
The shadowed creature was quickly approaching them as she forced herself to compose.
