Entry tags:complete, daryl rochester, delia fallon, private

so hey, let's be friends
Date: December 10th, 2013
Time: 11pm
Location: The wooded area around Memorial Park
Characters: Daryl Rochester + Delia Fallon
Description: As Delia tries to find some of her missing items in the woods, she encounters a newcomer in town.
Status: Private, Complete.

It didn't seem like that long ago, Delia had locked herself out of her car at some god awful hour in the morning and had to walk from the hospital all the way back to her home in Memorial Park. During that trip, she had encountered a vampire who seemed keen on making her his dinner and she had been forced to shift to escape him, leaving a bunch of her clothes and other personal items scattered around the wooded floor of the park. It had been quite some time since then, and she had still been unable to locate her earrings and a necklace she cared about.

Work had ended not long ago, and after she came home she immediately grabbed a flashlight and went to go look for said missing items. Daylight didn't seem to be doing much, as the fog and general winter weather didn't allow for any glinting of the missing pieces to reflect off the sun and allow her to see them. And it seemed stupid to go out at night again, after she had nearly been eaten and all that, but she was quite competent and capable - there was no reason, in her mind, to be afraid of going out there at night. If she was, it just meant that he won. And that was the last thing she wanted. For some stupid vampire to have made her afraid of the dark.

So with a lovely and quite powerful flashlight in hand, she headed back out in her scrubs to try and locate her jewelry. As she walked, she stuck the flashlight under her arm to tug her hair out of the bun she'd been wearing at work, the hair-tie starting to give her a bit of a tension headache. The curls spilled out over her shoulders and she massaged her head briefly, taking the flashlight back in hand and sighing. She was starting to think maybe he stole the items as she neared the area where the prior scuffle had taken place, no reflecting of gems in sight.

Delia was focusing quite a bit on finding the lost treasures, combing the soft forest floor with her eyes peeled - and that meant that she wasn't paying total attention to her surroundings. She should have been more careful, and with how jumpy she had been lately she knew it could lead to an unexpected shift if she were surprised by anything in the forest, but she was sure at this time of night there wouldn't be anything to worry about, it was only eleven after all. Vampires didn't usually come out until a bit later, and in her current state of tiredness and frustration it was possible she wasn't really thinking about anything else startling her in the night.

"I told you I could change into other things to!" She said, frowning a little. "Look." She was driving, yes, but the transformation into other people really didn't take much. She transformed into her mother - roughly the same body shape, when she was a bit younger, the way Delia remembered her best. Her face changed completely, as did her hair. "Not just birds." She said, before her body subtly shifted back into its normal form. She didn't even swerve, it was impressive. But she could only do that for similar shapes, and would never attempt anything more substantial in a car.

She waved him off when he was back to being grateful. "I'm a nurse, Daryl. I live for helping people. I don't know what the point of life is if you can't be good, especially for people who need a little more good in their lives."

"I know, but your fright response is to change into a tiny bird," Daryl said once he had gotten over the initial surprise that she could become other people with ease. "Who is that?" he asked, rather than admit he'd been wrong. Well, not wrong. He had just been joking, really. He understood. He understood that she had the ability to change into whatever she liked as far as animals went. But as for people, well, he hadn't known about that. "Furthermore, do you even look like you?" he asked then. There was no way for him to tell. He didn't know enough about her kind, but she seemed fine. She had only been kind to him.

"Maybe so," he said then, "But I did pull a knife on you when we first met..."

"Well if I'm coming to defend you, I'll be prepared, not frightened. And I can shift very quickly." She said, scrunching her nose. She clearly did not agree with his judgment on the ineffectiveness of turning into a hummingbird. She had survived quite a bit, even a vampire attack at this point. It was definitely useful. "And it was my mom. If you knew her, good chance is that would have been enough to frighten you out of the car." She laughed, shaking her head. Her mom was actually pretty nice, but she could be terrifying if she needed to be.

"Yes, I do look like me. It takes effort to shift in general, and much more effort to maintain it. I could not have sat there and talked to you for that long yesterday and kept up the shift the whole time. Well no, I probably could have, but I promise you this is what I really look like." She rose a brow slightly. "Besides, why would I choose this form to go as all the time?" As with any woman, she had some complaints about her body. But just because she could shift, didn't mean she always did. It never worked out in the long run, if you hid what you really looked like.

She snorted, shaking her head. "That's not the worst thing that's happened to me. You just had it out, you didn't lunge or anything."

"Alright, I'll call you if I ever need any sort of defending and you'll have to promise me to only pick a bird if I need someone's eyes pecking out," Daryl said, laughing. He listened as she told him who she had changed into, and of the effort it took to maintain a form. Well, it was all useful, all good information to have, all things that he might need one day. Wait long enough, it seemed, and you'd be able to out a Shifter for what they truly were. But unless he found one that was attacking humans, innocent people, he would never have to lift a finger against one. Still, just in case.

"I would have thought you might keep that form all the time if it wasn't yours," he said then when she asked why she would, "There's nothing wrong with it, the way you look." Pretty, not pretty, people were just people in his opinion, and it wasn't as though he cared how he looked. He didn't even care if he washed most days.

"Got it. I promise." She said, laughing a little. If she had known exactly what he was, she might not have been so forthcoming with the information. It wasn't as if she had never met a hunter before, but she did not ever pose a threat and not many knew what she was, so she didn't know much about them. Had she known she was giving him possible information to outsmart and take down a shifter who decided to use their abilities for harm, she might not have been so helpful.

But then, no one should use their gifts for harm, so maybe she would have.

"Oh. Well, thank you. I don't think there's much wrong with it either. Short, maybe. My hair could use with some taming. I have to wear it up for work though, so thank the rules and regulations of Nursing for that." She smiled, coming up to the turn-off for the shelter. "Now remember, do not remove the bandages for at least a few more hours before you change them. The pressure still needs to be there for it to be most effective."

"Well, thank you again, for fixing me, feeding me and letting me stay the night with you, even if I didn't give you much choice," Daryl said, reaching over to kiss her cheek before he was climbing out of the car to fetch his guitar. The last time he'd kissed someone's cheek had been when his parents had been alive, but he felt no anxiety in doing so now. She had helped him so much. Although she probably wouldn't appreciate the gesture. He was well aware that he didn't smell fantastic, and that he probably looked rougher than a truly rough thing. But the thought was what counted, even if she didn't know as much. He waved to her in the car, then turned about and made his way to the shelter, ready to stay there until he was well again.

"You're welcome." She responded, surprised by the kiss to her cheek, but only just so. It was customary, she thought, in most European places to greet and say your goodbyes with cheek kisses. She smiled at him and waved, nonplussed about the apparent smell, which she hardly even noticed. This wasn't her first encounter with the homeless, and she had become slightly immune to it. When he was safely to the door, she went ahead and drove off to work, feeling better about the day knowing she had helped someone.
