There for all to see
Date: November 5. 2013
Time: 2:06 PM
Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Characters: Lux Warren, John Irvine
Description: John and Lux go digging into the Founding Families' past. Part 1/?
Status: Private, complete.

The traffic began to thicken as they drove through Peabody, on approach to Salem. Lux had mentioned, not long after the Halloween party, that there were a few things that she needed to check out in the town, although John didn't know exactly what. Something to do with the history of the Families, although their own were pretty comprehensive, and included a lot of information that was decidedly non-public.

But that wasn't the only reason he'd volunteered to drive them both. Things in town had been a little tense of late, not between them of course, or even between the Circle really, although they were still adjusting to the new paradigm that had settled in between them, free from the flawed Binding they'd lived through for years before. There were still issues with some of the parents, although the Irvines, on the surface, seemed to have accepted it. Gwendolyn and William refused to acknowledge him in the street though, which was hardly a change from before if he was honest, but it was a little more loaded this time. He thought that a break would be a good idea, even if the prospect of sifting through old tomes all day didn't exactly appeal.

There was a reason that he didn't go to college, after all.

They reached the limits of the city proper, and he glanced over, nudging Lux in the arm. She'd drifted off around an hour before, dozing against the window, her coffee cooling in the cup holder until it had separated again.

"Hey," he said, pulling to a stop as the light turned red at an intersection. "We're here."

He may have attempted to step out of the way, but the palm of her hand firmly connected with his shoulder. Lux tried to contain her shout of indignation but unfortunately a low growl managed to escape her pursed lips.

“You are such a child Irvine.”

Despite her mind being half asleep just moments ago, Lux was quick to rise towards the occasion. Several libraries had taken to digital representations of the information stored in their coffers, but Salem was only just in the process of converting everything over. The genealogy section was one of the few collections that had yet to be scanned into the memory banks.

“It’s not that bad—after all, old books have a certain charm to them.”

She inhaled deeply when she entered the room the librarian directed them to and the smell of musty old pages greeted her senses—it was relaxing. Her fingers itched to feel the smooth pages and worn leather bindings. Each large tome had been carefully placed on its proper shelf as it was filed away for safekeeping. Very few people ventured in this area outside of scholars and genealogists. In their case, they were here for both.

“I can grab the books we need since I’m the only one qualified to do so, and you can cross reference the names, alright?”

A glint of excitement gleaned in her emerald hues as she slowly turned around in the middle of the room. She was like a child at Christmas time that opened her present for the first time. The petite brunette had spent hours here, and she had loved every minute of it despite her desperate search for answers. She was in her own personal heaven at the moment and if she remembered correctly, the books she needed would be located a few shelves down.
