LOG: Clark Kent & Xander Harris
Backdated to yesterday, Thursday June 21st
Clark and Xander run into each other at the comic book store for a very important occasion. New Comics Day! They debate what comics are better, the advantage (and disadvantage) of super powers and make last minute summer plans for pie and zombie movies.
New Comics Day. It was something Clark looked forward to every week. In a town as small as Sunnydale, with the secrets he kept, and the few friends that he had, it was the highlight of his week. Some might call it sad, but Clark wouldn't. It was a hobby. Besides, things like this gave him a chance to get out of the house -- otherwise, he'd be a complete hermit. "Ooh," he muttered, grinning as he picked up a mint edition of Warrior Angel. If only he had the money to buy it.
"Ten bucks says you can afford that either." Xander said with a grin as he sided up to one of his many fellow pilgrims on this holiest of days to the mecca where they could worship at the alter of the great comic book legends. New Comics Day was his favorite day of the week as well, since it gave him a perfectly legit reason to be out of his house all day and come school, would be a reason for him to stay away from home that much longer after school. "And how are you on this greastest day of days, Clark?"
"If only I could," Clark replied, offering Xander a soft smile. He offered Xander the chance to touch it - because let's face it, it was the real reason Xander was here. "I'm good. Can't beat new comics day." He tilted his head. "Now it's just a matter of deciding New Exiles or Young X-Men." He was oh-so-sad about New X-Men.
Returning Clark's grin, Xander did take the comic from him and looked through it, shaking his head sadly. Warrior Angel wasn't the most popular comic but it was original. Best bald headed super hero...after Charles Xavier of course. Nothing beat the X-man. Then he looked up at Clark with a smirk. "Oh definitely Exiles. Young X-men's story line is getting old fast, and the art? Not so much."
"I feel like maybe I should branch out," Clark replied thoughtfully. "Maybe try some Mighty Avengers. Maybe Spider-man." He shrugged. "I feel like I need to switch things up or something." He smirked, though.
That earned Clark a chuckle as he glanced up from Warrior Angel again. "Now Spiderman, that I can recommend. That guy's got class." With a small sigh, he put Warrior Angel back.
"I dunno about that," Clark replied. "Spider-man has always made me a little sad." Maybe because it hit too close to home. Dorky kid with abilities far beyond mortal men and constantly in danger.
"Oh come on? Sad! I mean, okay the whole Uncle Ben thing was awful but he has super powers! I mean, to fly like that, even it's more swinging then flying, and the strength and spider sense..." He licked his lips before he ducked his head bashfully. "That ability to help people who need it? How is that not awesome?"
"That's all nice," Clark said quietly. "It just sucks when people find out and your old aunt is murdered in your living room." Wow, Clark. Morbid, much?
Xander gave Clark and odd look, before shrugging. "Yeah, I mean...it's not a perfect life. But doesn't all the good out way the bad?" That ability to be help people...he couldn't help but be attracted to it.
"I dunno if I could live with myself if someone died because they knew me," Clark said. He paused. "Wow, I'm just a ball of sunshine." He sighed. "But yes, helping people? Seems like such a wonderful thing."
"Okay...so the bad is really bad." He playfully elbowed Clark in the ribs. "Cheer up Clark! It's all make believe anyway right?"
"So, what're you here for," Clark asked, changing the subject quickly. Enough with the dismalness. It's not a good way to make friends.
Clark was lucky Xander was already his friend. Of course Xander felt lucky Clark was his friend too at the moment since he was obviously without his other half. Jesse was, you guessed, sniffing after Cordelia. There was a pool party that a friend of ehr was hosting that he someone managed an invite to, leaving Xander on his lonesome. "I don't know. Though I might look through some of the lesser known titles this week. The main lines just aren't holding my interest like they used too."
"Some good art though," Clark said. "What're you up to for the rest of the day?" Color Clark curious. "Hanging out with Willow?" Xander's other half. Well. Third? Something.
"Okay okay, I'll give you the art, but it can only do so much to keep my interest." Xander said with a small nod before grinning. "Yeah. She's helping me finish that history assignment then we're hitting the beach. She's out shopping with her mom at the moment. What about you my man? Any big last minute plans before school starts?"
"Ah," he replied. "Did you do the English?" Summer reading was...just not fun. Well. This summer reading, anyway. Clark leaned against the counter, brushing some hair out of his eyes.
"Actually yes! Willow got me to do that early in the summer and then we got distracted by actually enjoying ourselves. We did the Math on Tuesday because she reminded me at the party on Monday." Xander was actually proud of himself for this because yes, summer reading was not of the good. It was no good. None at all.
"At least you'll have the weekend free, right?" Clark took up his choices. "If you guys get bored, or whatever, you should come by. Ma's making pie an obscene amount of pie. She's experimenting again. So." He shrugged. "If you guys don't do anything, I mean."
Xander's eyes grew wide at that. "Is that an offer for Ma Kent's pies? I dare anyone to turn that down! I know I'd love too, I'll check with Willow and Jesse, but I have a feeling it will be a resounding yes. Your mother is a pastry goddess." Not that anyone was going to turn down an offer of Mrs. Kent's pies but Clark offering to have anyone over was kind of rare. He usually kept to himself, but Xander was going to jump on the chance. He genuinely liked Clark, he was a good guy. Needed to get out more was all.
"Okay," Clark replied. "Most of 'em will be done and edible around 6 or so. Stop by. I'll probably just be watching movies or something." Clark felt..relieved that Xander agreed to come. He was half-expecting it to be a kind of lame invitation that would've received an eye roll. But, he should've known better. Xander was good people.
"Make it something with explosions and I know I'll join you." Willow might not stay for a violent movie and he didn't even know if he'd get Jesse to give up precious Cordelia time to come at all, but hey, at least he'd make some headway in the socializing Clark Kent area. And having issues many a lame invitation himself, he saw the warning signs and wasn't about to let a fellow fall on his face.
"What about mindless zombie apocalypse?" Clark tilted his head, with a sheepish grin. "I'm a fan of the zombie movie." Clark liked the Romero - who didn't?
That earned Clark an arm clapped around his shoulders. "Clark, my man, I like the way you think."
"You just want my mom's pie," Clark said, with a chuckle. "I should go. My mom and dad are probably waiting for me at the Magic Box. They're getting ready for Halloween really early. I think my mom's trying to do something for charity." That was his mom - always wanting to do something nice for the community.
"Are you guys going to do that hayride thing again? Man it was the talk of the town last year!" Then Xander held up his hands. "Right leaving. I'll see you this weekend Clark, 6 at your place for pie and brain eating, possible with a Jesse and Wills in tow." He flashed Clark a goodbye grin before moving off to look at other comics he couldn't afford but were fun to look at anyway.
