Cordelia sat with her usual group of girls, whom hung on every word that she breathed. As the red straw nudged the lingering ice cubes in the bottom of her glass, she concluded another Day in the Life of Cordelia Chase epic drama, where everyone is gorgeous and sophisticated--but not more than she--and of course revolving about her. Everything was the same, but slightly different, too. They were high school students now. Cordelia had just been discussing her back-to-school clothes shopping extravaganza, purposefully leaving out the real details as to why she was in New York City. If she were going to be dragged across the country for reasons that did not really apply to her life, the least her parents could do was take her shopping. It was time for a more grown-up look. Tonight, she wore a tight black dress, slinky in all of the right places, straight out of Vogue's Fall preview for "casual" nights out.
"I think we should write letters to the mayors of cities like New York, though, about the homeless populations. Because those were two-hundred dollar shoes and I don't care what imaginary friend he thought I stepped on, I did not deserve to have whatever was in that cup thrown at my feet. They need to be moved to... like, New Jersey or something. No one has suffered like I have suffered, right?" All five heads nodded vigorously in agreement.
"I'm parched, keep the table." Cordy slipped off the stool easily enough and began to make her way through the crowd of her fellow Sunnydale High students. Some of the guys playing pool were senior boys, so she had to take the long way to the bar if only to pass them while giving her hair a very natural I-don't-care-if-you're-looking-but-you-c
"Hell-o," she muttered to herself as he turned some. His eyes were stunning; very Americanized Jude Law and a mouth with potential Brad Pitt smile-age. Exchange students were not supposed to come for a couple of weeks and while he did sport a resemblance to someone of possible prep-school descent, this guy was total yum and had never before been on Hottie Radar. Cordelia, bold, outgoing and unforgiving in a million ways, walked up to the bar and asked for another Diet Coke with a wedge of lime.
"Hi," she said in greeting to the new guy. Maybe he was a senior, which would explain it.
