MUGGLE-BORNS CAUGHT LEAVING BRITAIN TO AID FOREIGN TERRORISTS WIZENGAMOT SENTENCES TRAITORS TO LIFE IN AZKABAN Jeremiah Smith LONDON - In a public trial that took place yesterday at the Ministry of Magic, the Wizengamot sentenced eight wizards and witches to life in Azkaban on charges of aiding and abetting the foreign terrorists who were responsible for attacking the Lestrange Library weeks ago in Hogsmeade. Officers from the Department of Magical Law Enforcement had been investigating a number of tips regarding British wizards being involved in suspicious activity, including overheard conversations about refusals to register with the government last month and fleeing the United Kingdom despite borders being closed for the country's security last week. On Friday, eight wizards and witches were caught at five different international Apparition points near the country's borders as they attempted to leave without authorisation from the Department of Magical Transportation. Although each of the Ministry officers followed official Ministry protocol in attempting to arrest each of the suspects peacefully, one wizard named Luke Duncan violently assaulted the individual who stopped him and was unfortunately killed in self-defence during the ensuing struggle. Humphrey White, Gloria White, Renfred Clarkson, Louise Duncan, Lucy Owen, Jeremy Kaplan, Adelaide Bridges, and Jonathan Gilford were arrested after initial minor opposition. Interrogations taking place shortly after the arrests revealed that each arrested individual had intended to meet with several foreign terrorists in Continental Europe to further plans to sabotage other important institutions in wizarding Britain and Ireland, including the Ministry of Magic and Gringotts Wizarding Bank. Officers in the Department of Law Enforcement assure the public that they are already working on these leads in order to continue keeping the country and its civilians safe. Monday's public trial in front of a full meeting of the Wizengamot found the eight guilty on charges of treason in aiding the foreign terrorists. Every one of the criminals was also sentenced to life imprisonment in Azkaban. |
