Vada was not spending a lot of time getting ready so she could look nice. She was not waiting nervously for Alastor to show up. And most of all, this was not a date. This was two people, that could be considered friends since they had known each other for nearly two decades, getting something to eat and discussing their issues with the other. That is what she had meant. That is what she had tried to explain. It was not due to the fact that he had ignored her that day and spoke with the other healer. Vada Abbott did not get jealous, especially not over him. That would indicate that there were more than friendship feelings there, and they both knew that was not the case. Hell, she couldn't even be sure if she wanted him as a friend half the time.
And while she was busy talking herself out of everything, she put the final touches on her make-up. After all, she had to make it seem like she hadn't dressed up, since it was obviously not a date. Those three words, 'not a date', had played over and over and over in her mind the past few days, and to say she believed it would have been a lie. But, she was really trying, because what was more humiliating than admitting to Alastor that he was right? She would never live it down. It was like that time they were in Charms class, and he had told her to move her wand right and up, and she had gone up and right instead. She still heard about that, and it still annoyed her to no end.
So Vada waited, realizing she had gotten done ten minutes before he was supposed to be there. But, it wasn't like he'd actually show up. And it's not like she wanted him to show up, and certainly didn't want to go out and do something rather than be home reading or doing something productive. She certainly tried to read to pass the time, but her eyes just kept reading the same sentence over and over again, not comprehending, just listening for each sound to key her in to when he might be showing up.
