Aberforth put the last of the clean mugs away in their rack and looked around the bar with an assessing eye. It was late but he was used to being up until all hours. It wasn't like he needed a lot of sleep these days and he still liked doing all those little tasks at the end of the night instead of leaving them to Agnes. Not that the girl was around to do those tasks. He was fairly sure he'd seen her heading upstairs with someone earlier in the night but he hadn't been paying much attention as he been in the middle of a game of chess with one of his regulars. Besides she'd been off shift and she could spend her time off with whomever she liked. It was none of his business.
Unfortunately the pub hadn't been as full as he'd have liked for a Thursday night. Certainly business wasn't as good as it had been. Some of his regulars could floo in but not all of them had access to a floo. He'd spoken to Aknot about the idea of creating a tunnel from the pub to some place outside Hogsmeade but the half-goblin had yet to get back to him. It had occurred to Aberforth that such a tunnel would be useful for more than just getting his patrons in and out. It could well provide a useful access point for the Order... and the Death Eaters. He wasn't foolish enough to ignore that but there were ways of protecting it. If Aknot's contacts would agree to build it in the first place.
He gave one last glance around the bar then stepped out into the room and waved his hand towards the nearest table, causing the chairs to upend themselves and come to rest on the table. He then began to move from table to table, repeating the process.
