Overview 1. Pre-battle (noon 31 August)
Tensions rise and rumours abound as the death eaters realise the Dark Lord has been strangely silent of late. Severus Snape reveals all (to the inner circle) and when they realises what has happened, the IC arrange an unplanned attack on Hogwarts, to finish this once and for all.
2. Pre-battle
The Order puts the finishing touches on the fortifications of Hogwarts. Moody gives a rousing speech. The gate is opened.
3. Part 1 -- the initial attack (2pm 31 August)
Fights break out all over Hogwarts grounds without any sort of attack plan. The death eaters realise they are well matched and call for a retreat to regroup. The Order uses this time to tend to the wounded and pull the dead from the grounds.
4. Interim
Igor Karkaroff attempts to sneak away from the battle as the death eaters prepare a strategy; he is killed for his trouble. The Order taunts the death eaters about the Dark Lord.
5. Part 2 -- the second wave
Bellatrix Lestrange, fed up with "planning" and "strategy" races back out onto the battlefield to murder a professor helping to pick up bodies. Fighting breaks out and the rest of the death eaters are forced to return without a proper plan.
6. Interim
Some of the younger death eaters and dark army begin to lose their willingness to die for a dead Dark Lord. Ferdinand Gibbon runs from the field and is killed. With the majority of their forces dead or too wounded to fight, the inner circle has no choice but to order their troops back. Many death eaters flee for their lives.
7. Part 3 -- one last attempt...
Those death eaters unwilling to accept the obvious outcome of the battle make a last stand on Hogwarts grounds until they too are driven off to tend to their wounds and comfort the grieving.
8. Seizing the ministry
With this temporary victory in hand, those still able to fight head to the ministry to retake what is rightfully theirs and attempt to pick up the broken pieces of war.
