Jacqueline stared at her husband is disbelief. She was having a hard time comprehending what he had just said to her so she braced herself and asked him to repeat himself, only this time she requested that he not yell. Walden stared back as he clutched the back of the chair he stood behind. His temper was not something that he could control but he had always made it a point to take it out on inanimate objects and not people. There were exceptions to this rule, especially when the person deserved the temper. It seemed like he had been doing quite a bit of yelling in the past twenty-four hours. "I said that you should have stayed with the other hostages. Do you realise what you've done? You have just gone and made a broadcast to the world. 'Look, everyone! I'm Jacqueline Macnair, wife of a Death Eater, and I'm carrying his child!' You know, I think that I might run to Diagon and buy a can of paint so I can add a nice, red target to your back. I cannot believe you are this foolish." "You would have me stay there with those people, eating food that is less than satisfactory while they watch every move I make? I was thinking about our family but clearly that's the furthest thing from your mind." Walden's knuckles went white as he gripped the chair, trying very hard not to throw the damned thing out the window behind him. "You are a stupid girl. Do your philosophers not teach you common sense? If you had stayed with the other hostages and kept your pregnancy a secret we could have announced it when the water was calm. Instead of doing this, you throw the information to the very people we don't want knowing." She was silent but stoic as she listened to Walden lecture her. "What do you plan to do?" He snorted. "How do I plan to fix your mess, you mean? I will be removing you to the country, I think. Tomorrow I will find a place away from here and London and I will place every ward upon it that I can think of. I will have the others help me. Then you shall go there until things have quieted. You will be allowed to have your sister and mother come to visit, as well as the other ladies who are fortunate enough to be walking around." He put his hand up when she opened her mouth to argue. "This is not up for discussion." There was a brief moment where he thought he might have been too harsh with his words. He'd spent the day mourning Ben and moving on and his emotions were high. Iago was still not safe and it was clear that the situation was becoming more and more complicated with each day. He should apologise. "Are you angry because I left your sister behind?" The thought of apology was gone in the blink of an eye. "This conversation is over. Go to bed." He moved for the door, grabbing his jacket off the desk where he'd flung it in the throws of his tirade. "Where are you going?" She spoke carefully. "Out. I will see you in the morning." She watched him slip from the room and she sank into the chair he'd been guarding himself with. Jacqueline sighed calmly and placed both hands over her stomach and closed her eyes, thankful to be home despite everything her husband had just said to her. |
