She was dressed carefully and inspected head to toe by her mother. Veronica's mother had continually expressed her shock and glee at Veronica being actually courted by a gentleman. Now that Aquila had come around and the two were seeing each other regularly, Georgia Parkinson was afraid her daughter would run a suitor away, or frighten Aquila. Veronica wasn't allowed to go out and fly -- even her father was less likely to turn and look the other way when her mother was gone, afraid as they all were that she'd be seen as unfeminine.
"Is this alright?" Veronica asked her mother, her fists in tight balls at her side. She stared at the mirror, and after her mother smoothed her hair, she nodded. Veronica beamed at her reflection and began tearing down the hallway, to be at the fireplace this time when Aquila came to call. Apparently, when she wasn't there on time, Louis lectured Aquila. Veronica thought it was sweet that Louis didn't want her to get married so that he could always take care of her. She didn't mind that so much, but she did worry that Louis might betray some of her secrets.
She sat at a window seat, her long skirt carefully smoothed, and looked out the window. There was a bit of snow on the ground, but perhaps after they played the piano, Aquila might be willing to take her on a walk. She had been getting away as often as possible when her mother wasn't looking, but it hadn't been nearly enough.
The floo began to make noise and so she sat up straighter, her hands on her lap, and a bright, welcoming smile for Aquila.
