The (new) morning after
Date & Time: 12 October, 2002
Post Type: RP - a re-thread pre-thread
Status: Private
Character(s): Katie Bell, George Weasley
Location: Katie's flat
Summary: Waking up after a night together - a mostly retcon of This thread.

God... George woke slowly, then moved, groaning, one hand coming to his forehead. What the fuck did I drink?

He turned away from the warm body against him, pressing a hand to his forehead, the other moving across his stomach. And where the fuck am I?

He didn't recognise the bedroom, or the bed, but he could see the edge of a sink. Bingo... He pushed the covers aside and got to his feet, scratching his backside as he headed into the bathroom. He only lurched against the wall twice on his way... Not bad...

It was the sight of the toilet that set his stomach roiling, turning, and he dropped to his knees, losing most of whatever he'd drunk and thanking whoever had kept the bathroom so clean.

"If Fred was ever ashamed of me for anything, it'd be for admitting that you were right about something." He grinned, toasting her with his toast-and-bacon. He nibbled at it for a bit, shrugging her question off. "A couple things I could take, but none of them really work and the headache is worse than the hangover. I just learned my limits. Mostly."

He finished off the toast and reached for another slice, munching at the plain-ness of it and washing it down with Kat's good, strong coffee.

"It does. Makes perfect sense. I mean - I walked in on him in our bed with... someone. I just... Gods. I'm so angry at myself for wishing things had worked out, and then got even more pissed at myself for being tempted. I almost owled him, when that note came. So I got pissed off, then got pissed in general. And now... this. Breakfast with you..."

Reaching out to take George's hand felt as natural as breathing. A part of her waited for some other feeling to surface, maybe something akin to regret or perhaps longing for what-could-have-been, but it didn't. She was pleasantly surprised by this, but even more reassured that their friendship wouldn't be effected by what they had done.

It occurred to her that they had, in essence, used one another for a diversion. Were it not for the fact that she was a grown witch, responsible for her own actions, she might have tried to share the blame for her actions of the previous evening on Angelina for implanting the idea into her subconscious, and maybe even Timothy, since her disastrous attempts at dating had put her in such a glum mood in the first place. But neither of the latter were really all that fair or the slightest bit culpable, and so far neither George, nor she looked to be laying blame unnecessarily in the first place.

She squeezed his hand, and leaned toward him. "I can't even imagine," she said in all sincerity. "But I don't blame you in the slightest for wanting to get pissed off your head about it. I suppose if I'd been in the same situation, I can't say I'd have done any differently, though my bender probably would have come with a lot more baking."

Katie huffed a startled laugh, a memory hitting her all at once. "The only time I've ever been black-out drunk, I woke up to a kitchen full of two dozen fruit pies. My 'walk of shame' consisted of having to bring them to work and then having to tell everyone they were for some nonsense like Hogwarts Founders Day."

George chuckled, squeezing her hand in return. "I've walked into kitchens full of dozens of fruit pies. Never had an inkling that it could have meant Mum had been black-out drunk." He tried to imagine his mother in such a state, and bit his lip to squash a fit of most un-masculine giggles.

"Oh Gods." He pressed a hand to his forehead. "That shouldn't be so funny. Shouldn't hurt like that either, but hell..."

A moment passed and he finished off the coffee. "Thanks for that though, Kat. And for making sure I got... well, somewhere safe, last night."

A shocked expression settled on her, widening her eyes comically. "Oh, Merlin, no," she moaned, hand flying to half-cover her mouth. "I can't believe I let that slip. There's a very strict code, you see. Now your mum either needs to destroy me, or I'm just going to have to obliviare you. I'm sorry, George but there are lives at stake here. I'm sure you understand."

She held the face for a few seconds before collapsing into giggles herself. Once she'd gotten it out of her system, she wiped the edges of her eyes with the heel of her hand and fixed him with a fond smile. "Of course. We lions have to stick together."
