April is a promise that May is bound to keep
Date & Time: April 3, 2003
Post Type: RP
Status: Open: Private
Character(s): Cho Chang, Samantha Capper
Location: Slice, Hogsmeade
Summary: Cho and Samantha meet for lunch.

Cho arrived at Slice shortly after noon and quickly located Samantha already seated at one of the tables. She walked over and removed her jacket before she sat down in the chair across from Samantha.

“Hello, I’m sorry I’m late. The apothecary had a rush order for potions come in just before lunch.” Her smile was now more relaxed after such a productive morning at work. It had also been a pleasant surprise to see the sun shining as she arrived in Hogsmeade. It would be nice flying weather later this evening.

"How are you, Sam? I was so glad to receive your owl and the good news.”

Samantha arrived and took an empty table. Since she didn't know when Cho would arrive, she pulled out some sheet music and began making notes. Hearing the chair across from her, she looked up.

"Oh, it's all right," Sam said as Cho told her why she was late. "Oh, it that normal?" Not one that visited the apothecary often, she had no idea the normal ebb and flow of the business.

"Good. Working on some new music." Samantha slid the music off the table and into her bag. "How are you? Besides, busy it seems."

Cho was appreciative Samantha was understanding of her late arrival. She nodded as she explained the workings of the apothecary. “We provide service for the hospital’s patients around the clock. If there’s any sort of emergency, Healers’ orders take priority and are filled immediately.”

She had noticed with interest the sheet music on the table and smiled when Samantha said she was working on something new. “Is it something you’ll be singing at the Capricorn?” Cho reached for one of the menus as she said, “You’ll have to let me know the next time you have a performance scheduled. If it’s not an evening I’m working, I’d like to come hear you sing again.” There was something indefinably enjoyable about listening to live music. She and Stephen had also been talking about going dancing again somewhere soon.

“I’m doing well,” Cho replied with a smile. “It has been busier at the apothecary recently but I don’t mind working extra hours. Stephen has been working a lot as well.” She opened her menu and took a quick look at the available choices. “We’re hoping to take some time off soon though and take that trip to Tahiti. ” They had decided to take their vacation together once the issues at the apothecary had been settled. All the extra time they were putting into their jobs would hopefully also merit extra time off when it came time for their honeymoon.

“How’s it going for you at Good Omens?” She was interested in hearing more about this new development for Samantha.

"Ahh," Samantha said, thinking that if she did have to have something filled before heading back to work, lunch time would certainly be the time to do it.

Nodding, she said most likely. "It really depends on how much of it I know before than and if the house band can practice it a few times." Sam gave a small shrug; she didn't often plan what she was going to sing. Typically she brought a packet of sheet music and let the piano player decide; less stressful on her.

"Any special reason it's busier?" she asked before her eyes widen. "Tahiti? Isn't that pretty far way? Will you travel by portkey? I couldn't imagine trying to travel that far via apparation. Although, I don't suppose you can travel that way with the ocean and everything."

Picking up the menu, Sam scanned the options, deciding that sausage and onion sounded yummy as did the veggie or even the Hawaiian which had pineapple on it... "Well," she said. "I have three readings yesterday. The most in one day since I started."

Cho listened as Samantha talked about her music. She thought Sam’s easygoing nature and flexibility probably made her creative endeavors even more rewarding. She made a mental note to check the Capricorn’s upcoming schedule for singing performances.

A slight frown crossed Cho’s face when asked about the apothecary’s busy schedule. “We’re actually short a potion maker at the present time. The unstable coworker you warned me of is no longer there, but still left many problems for the apothecary.”

Cho quickly realized she had surprised Samantha with her mention of traveling so far away. “Yes, it’s on the other side of the world in the South Pacific.” Cho closed her menu and set it aside as she shared more details of the vacation. “Actually the trip to Tahiti is a Christmas present from Stephen. He already has our vouchers for the hotel and portkey whenever we decide to make the trip.” She was looking forward to time away to rejuvenate after things were settled at the apothecary.

As Samantha looked at the menu, Cho offered a suggestion. “My favorite topping is sausage but I like most combinations, if you’d like to share a pizza.”

She looked up with a huge smile when Samantha spoke of yesterday’s readings at the Divination shop. “That’s really great, Sam. I may have to stop in one day when you’re working. Are you adjusting well to the new schedule?” She had more questions but paused when she saw the server approach their table.

She noticed the frown on Cho's face before she answered the question. While Samantha itched to take out the card in her handbag, she didn't. "After times with readings like I one I did for you, some of the future influences could last up to a year," she said. "It could be possible it takes that long to find a proper replacement."

The idea of traveling that far brought a sudden sense of nervousness and she wasn't even going on the trip. "You must need to plan well in advance. At least for work." Sam closed her menu as well as Cho said she liked sausage.

"Sausage and onion?" she suggested before nodding. "Much better. I just need to remember to go to sleep as soon as I get home instead of staying up an hour or two like I normally do."

When Samantha elaborated on the possible long term effects, Cho nodded as she thought about the broader scope affected by everything that had happened. “I wasn’t expecting anything like this situation when I took the position at the apothecary.” After receiving her Mastery, she had been eager to use her knowledge to help people and St. Mungo’s had seemed like the perfect place for that. Cho managed a small smile as she tried to look forward rather than dwell on the past. “If anything positive comes from the whole experience, I think more precautionary measures will now be taken at the apothecary and hopefully that will apply to hiring procedures as well.”

Cho’s face relaxed into a wider smile when Samantha mentioned the need for advance planning. “I've been quite the Ravenclaw already making lists to cover every contingency.” Whether her absence from the apothecary was for a vacation or altogether, she planned to make sure it was running well whenever she left. As for the trip, the only thing she really needed was Stephen.

They gave their drink orders to the server and agreed to share a sausage and onion pizza. Cho leaned back in her chair, appreciative of the casual atmosphere of the restaurant which made for a nice lunch break away from the hospital setting. She thought it sounded like Samantha’s new venture at Good Omens worked well with a few timing changes to her schedule. “I’m glad things are going well for you.” Samantha appeared to have an intuitive ability for interpreting the cards which made Cho wonder. “Have you explored other methods of Divination, or is tarot your preference?”

Samantha wasn't surprised that this wasn't what she expected; no one expects to work with a co-worker who doesn't always have the best for place of business in question. "Things cannot always be seen," she said. "One of the readings I did last week someone asked me to read about someone he's thinking of hiring." Once the words were out of his mouth, she probably shouldn't have.

"I certainly appreciate it when the other staffers clean up in preparation for the following day. Not all of them do."

When their order was in, Sam took a moment to think about Cho's question. "I have. I mean, I took Divination at Hogwarts, but I've always been drawn to tarot, which is why I use it more. The thing with Divination that is not really explained is that it is several studies wrapped into one. Palmistry is vastly different than tea leaves or dream interpretation."
