It was not a question she was prepared for. In the past he had asked for her opinion on a variety of things, but never regarding his role at Court. It was just something she had accepted as it happened. She had her thoughts on it, as most did, but she had kept them to herself save a flash of concern when something occurred to draw it out.
She studied him for several moments, allowing them to fall into a slightly tense silence. In that time, she thought carefully of how she was going to respond. There was precious little roles open above Judgment and Lord Regent. More importantly, there was only one that had caught the attention of the court. "Honesty may be what is needed, but it is often not what we want to hear," she finally responded, looking away from him. Her eyes focused on the wall ahead of her, but that was not what she saw.
"If you take on more, Mikino, you will have to let go of some of the things you've been holding onto," she sighed, knowing full well that should he proceed even this easy and familiar friendship would change. Perhaps that was a selfish thing to think given the circumstances, but it was an honest thought that she needed to remind herself of, no matter how things turned out. "You cannot be Lord in the South, Judgment, Lord Regent, and something more."
She supposed what it really boiled down to was what he thought he needed and there was little she could say to that. He would need to decide what it was that was important to him. "I think you take too much on yourself," she admitted, glancing down at her hands where they rested in her lap. It really was none of her business, but he had asked and she would not deny him a response. "Perhaps the weight of the Court should not rest solely on the shoulders of a single individual."
No matter her opinions, he would make the decision and she would accept it. It was how it had always been and likely how it would always be. "There are various forms of wisdom. I can't tell you whether pursuing such a thing is wise as I am unaware of what you seek in doing so." She did not expect him to share his thoughts on that and she was not entirely sure that she even wanted to know. Somethings were best not shared. "Regardless of what you decide, however, you know I will adjust to whatever change is needed."
