If true nobility was exempt from fear, Ava faced a very serious problem. It was a problem that warred within her. She couldn't fight fear when there were too many things she cared about. With the recent events and the possibility of what was to come in the future, she found herself fearing for a wide variety of things. She feared not being able to protect those who looked to her for such a thing. She feared the ambition of the Danaan. She feared for both Mikino and Aneirin's safety. There were clearly many things that she feared. Most importantly, however, she feared that she did not live up to the standard left behind by her Father. He had feared little in her eyes and yet, for her, it was impossible not to fear. She often wondered if perhaps the lesson was not found in succeeding to wipe all fear from oneself, but to acknowledge and accept it.
It was these thoughts that circled through her mind as she returned to the rooms given for her use during her time at Court. They were gorgeous and had an air of opulence that only the Palace could offer, but Ava found little comfort in such things. She would have preferred to be at home, but chances were not to be taken and decisions were not to be made lightly. She would remain at the Palace until her obligations were complete before returning to the West. This did not put her at odds, for there were certain things she wished to see to and her presence at Court would assist in that.
Dismissing her guards to a position outside the room, she changed from the formal clothing worn in the presence of their Queen to a more casual selection. She had no intention of leaving her room that evening and formal wear was not something required for such a thing. Sitting in front of her vanity, she idly began to work her long locks out of the braid that had forced them into proper order as her thoughts returned to the information shared in the war room. Tension was rising and she could not see exactly what would happen when it broke. Thinking on many of the reports given by the other Lords, she pondered the best course of action to take. Of course, thoughts of action and reaction brought with it the thought of Mikino. The sight of that crutch had done nothing to secure her confidence.
Standing once again, she moved to the sitting area and took a moment to write a brief note requesting Mikino's presence should he find a spare moment that evening. Folding it neatly, she called one of her Guards. Normally she would have trusted Aneirin with this, but she had requested he remain behind. He was safer in the West and though he did not like to be told such things, she had insisted. "You are to take this note to Lord Alcaeyn. Only in his hands will you place it, is that understood?"
"Yes, my Lady."
Nodding her approval, she sent him on his way. Perhaps it was inappropriate to request his presence at the current hour and location, but propriety would have to stand to the side for the moment. She had things to discuss with him and they would be better said in privacy. Some time such a thing as privacy was found only outside the boundaries of propriety.
