Kaylee and Open
Evening
Park, jogging/hiking trail
Three months. Kaylee had been cut off from everything. Everyone. It had been what she needed. The training was as intense as she’d been promised, but nothing really gave that Hunter upbringing a run for its money. It was a different sort of intense though. There was nothing that could quite compare to magic. When Andrew had met her at the airport, all charming uncertainty and frustrating acceptance, she had tried, but he couldn’t understand. It was somehow profoundly devastating to come to that realization. All her life they had shared the same experiences and she could talk to him about things that no one else would have an inkling of. Now there was this all-consuming power that had taken over her life and her future and Andrew Moreau was on the outside of it all.
She had asked after Mel, and the car ride had been filled with those stories. She managed to be gracious and congratulate him. Kaylee didn’t apologize, but Andrew never would have expected it of her. That had always been his way, to just push it away and move forward. It made sense with the things he had faced, but even rash Kaylee worried it would all catch up with him someday and be too much.
Overall, it was awkward but only so much as anything could be where two Moreaus were involved. She didn’t have to pretend to be happy to see Andrew and he didn’t press her to see Mel and sort things out the way she had expected he would. Everything else had been set up for her. An apartment, a job following her Aegis training.
A very lonely apartment, it turned out. She literally could not have visited Andrew even if she wanted to, though she supposed she could have called… Still, she wasn’t ready to face his new other half just yet. She tried calling Tristan, but the phone number wasn’t any good anymore. She even thought about Abel, but that seemed too desperate…
So she decided to go for a walk while she mulled over just what the hell she was doing with her Friday night, and wound up on the jogging path where she had met Tris that first morning, where her magical affinities had been discovered. A smile tugged at her lips at the thought the lycan may still be in the area. It was in for a fun little surprise if it tried anything with her again…
