What: Part-ay
Where: Searchlight, Derek's Place
When: Present

Derek had made the trek to the Party City in Las Vegas for supplies for his impromptu trailer-warming shindig. It was an awkward time of year, his choices ranging from discount Christmas and New Year’s decor or children’s birthday party. He decided to create a pastiche from each category and call it quirky. Tied to the mailbox in front of the trailer were gold and black balloons welcoming 2021 in glittery script. On the front door was a curtain that hung down featuring shiny Valentine’s hearts and half-naked cupids. He put fake cobwebs and black rubber spiders on the bushes. Hanging from the awning above the front door were Christmas-y icicle lights.
Inside, the theme seemed to vacillate between the Avengers and Star Wars. There was a cardboard cutout of a Stormtrooper aiming his gun at the viewer next to a cutout of Thanos holding up the Infinity glove. On a folding card table sat various bowls of chips and snacks, a bucket of ice and tongs, red solo cups, and a space for whatever forms of alcohol the guests chose to bring. The vampire’s contribution was a large bottle of Fireball and another of Jameson, his human-era favorites.
He had arranged the couch and chairs in a semi-circle formation for optimal conversation potential. In the small backyard, he had set up a small fire pit with camp chairs and paper lanterns, and had even thrown a couple of blankets on one chair in case people got chilly. There was also a cooler out there with bottles of various craft and local brews, and he had a disposable charcoal grill in case any guests wanted something more substantial than chips and dip. In the kitchen, he had all the fixings for burgers and hot dogs.
Once everything seemed set up as well as it could be, he sat and waited for the first guests to arrive, playing a game of Madden 21 on the flat screen to keep himself entertained.
