Drabble: More Than Alright (Spander) FRC/G
I wrote this yesterday as a present for my dear and cherished friend, the fabulous kitty_poker. I decided not to post it until today because I had already posted so many drabbles. I hope you enjoy it.

More Than Alright
He’s used to this treatment: the indulgent looks, the patronizing pats on the shoulder, the dismissal of his ideas and attempts to help. He accepts it, too. He is, after all, the Zeppo, the donut boy, the loveable screw-up, the comic relief. He’s not much use but, like a scruffy mutt, he’s so darn cute that you just keep feeding him and petting him and you sigh as you clean up after him when he pees on the carpet. That’s Xander.
But maybe not so much anymore.
There was a time when Spike’s taunts, above all, rang in his ears and burned in his gut. Not now. Now the mocking laughter has turned to moans and soft words not meant for anyone but him. The cruelty has turned to something else - not kindness maybe (after all, Spike always reminds him, he is a demon), but not cruelty, no, not that. Spike has a way of just looking at him that makes it all, well, not perfect, but close, pretty darn close. And he makes it okay to be Xander, better than okay, even. So Xander doesn’t mind the fact that none of his friends think he’s special and worthy. Because Spike does.
The End.
