RP: School Shopping
Characters: Hugo, Lan, Tris, Meghan, Aries, Libra
Time/Date: Saturday, late morning
Location: Diagon Alley, various shops
Warnings/Rating: Kids being kids?
Summary: Tris and the others school-shop
Status: Complete

Tristan extended a hand to help Meghan out of the fireplace like the gentleman he was. Once it looked like everyone was present and set to go, he grinned, waggled his eyebrows, and started toward the exit.

Given that this was the last weekend before school started, it would be crowded as anything, and he wasn't disappointed when he stepped out into the Alley proper. Crowds upon crowds of people. Blue eyes shot toward Lan, and despite knowing that Rose wasn't around, the younger wizard still appeared to be looking for her.

Tris' grin broadened as he leaned over to nudge Lan. "She's not here, mate," he advised.

Lan jumped a little when Tris nudged him, and he shrugged. "I know," he said, knowing full well Tris probably heard the edge of defensiveness to his voice.

Slinging an arm around Lan's shoulders, and then around Hugo's, Tristan exhaled loudly. "Right then. How do we want to do this, and where are we headed first?"

"Books," Meghan chimed in helpfully. She was a little disappointed Lily hadn't come along, but she supposed if she had a guy as cute as Lily claimed Sirius was in the house, she might not be inclined to go on a second shopping trip. "For classes," she added before Tristan could make some quip about badgers not reading for fun, or whatever his flavor of the day was.

Hugo couldn't really blame Lily either and he was crazy curious about Sirius Black, mostly because he was about their age and he wondered if he'd be going to school with them this term. He would hit Lily up for the details tonight; not that he imagined he'd have to work hard to get them.

"Is that what they're for? Classes? Explains a whole lot," the young man grinned as he slung his arm around Meghan since Tristan had run out of arms and he thought everyone should be involved.

He was also trying not to be too aware of how close he was to Tris because maybe Lily had been on to something about Tristan just being Tristan. He probably wasn't really interested. Hugo didn't even know if he was interested, but Tris was cute and the first bloke he'd ever really flirted with.

So he'd just see where things went and try not to read too much into anything.

"You might actually pass your OWLs if you invested in some books," she quipped to Hugo, nudging him with her shoulder as he wrapped an arm around her. She knew he was doing just fine in classes; hell, they studied together and mostly got around the same grades.

Tristan laughed softly, squeezing Hugo and Lan to pull them briefly closer to him. "Right. Books. Suppose we'll be after writing implements, paper, things like that? Ink? Does anyone need new robes? Quidditch gear? Want to drop some quidditch tips? Hm?" He grinned down to Hugo, but this was par for the course. He always pried and no one ever coughed up anything worthwhile.

"I need robes," Meghan admitted. She'd grown a couple of inches since the last time she'd shopped, and her robes were just ... too short now. Not to mention the potion stains on the one set that did fit right.

Tristan nodded. "Excellent. So we'll send the non-flying girl off to fetch robes, while I drag us quidditch blokes along to a proper store?"

"I better get some then. My mum will kill me if I don't make a good show on my OWLs." He wasn't really too worried, though. He'd probably worry when they got closer, but he was pretty sure he'd do all right.

"I need quills," Hugo admitted; he had a bad habit of losing his and he could do with some more ink as well. Merlin, there were a lot of people. He made a promise to himself that he would likely forget not to put off shopping so long next year.

"Sure we can't talk you into a broom this year, Meg?" He asked his friend innocently, brows arching as if he didn't already know the answer to his question.

"Right, you do recall the first time I was on a broom, right? The screaming, the crying, the almost passing out? Heights don't agree with me, and brooms go high. So you can see how me and a broom isn't a good match?" She grinned all the same, and shook her head.

It had been a very, very traumatic experience, but it was years old. She'd been allowed to just hover around above the ground while the other students learned the art of flying. She sometimes wondered if she was the only one in the history of ever, but doubted it.

"I can pick you up some quills," Meghan offered with a shrug.

"I'll go, too," Lan offered with a nudge to Tristan's side. "I need a break from this one, anyway. Dunno what my grandfather was thinking, inviting him over for a week."

"He was thinking that you needed to spend more time with your best mate, clearly," Tristan said before he dropped his arm from around Lan. "That's fine though. You run off. Hugo and I will tell you all about the awesome fun things we found in all the other stores."

"You do that," Lan said with a laugh before he slung an arm around Meghan. "C'mon. Let's go do non-quidditch related things," he said as he tugged gently at her to start toward the stationery store.

"Thanks. Some ink too, if you don't mind? Manly colors," he clarified with a grin. He'd almost offered to go with Meghan before Lan had, not really wanting her to have to shop by herself, but this worked also.

He lifted a hand in a wave as Meg and Lan started off then tipped his chin up to look at Tris. "Off we go, then. On our quest for awesome."

Unsure exactly where they had decided to go, but pretty open to anything, he started in the direction of the Quidditch store, unless Tristan had other plans... not that there were too many different directions they could choose from at this point.

"Manly colors?" Tris grinned. "You really have to specify that? What constitutes a manly color, anyway?" He was willing to bet that between the two of them, they did come back with some pink or rainbow ink or something.

Shoving his hands into his pockets, Tris rolled his shoulders. Starting off toward the quidditch store as promised, he grinned. They'd hit the other stores eventually, but ... fun first, and then school stuff.

"So, how's the excitement of the returning dead going? None of yours have shown up, right?"

"I dunno; I'm probably asking for some pink ink just by pointing it out, but..." he trailed off with a shrug, a little grin. He trusted Meg to get him proper black ink along with whatever joke colors they came up with.

Walking along with the older boy, he shook his head. "Nah, at least no one who's staying in our house." Or who was directly related to him, but Lily's grandmother felt like a relation in the same way Meg did. Which suddenly connected in his mind Meg and Lily Evans being related. Huh.

"It's pretty weird, though," he went on, "I don't really know if it's sunk in for me, you know?"

"No, I know what you mean," he assured Hugo. "I know Isaac's both hoping it ends and hoping some of his mates come back. Deal is though, as long as people are coming back, it leaves things open for ... Death Eaters. Dark wizards. Serial murders. People who wound up in Azkaban. Granted, if they died there, they'd be stuck there, but ..."

Tristan shrugged as they walked along.

"Be interesting to see if anyone pops up at school while we're there. I mean, who knows really where the fighting took place? Not all of it was in the Great Hall or the entrance hall. What about people who crawled off to die, or died running? What about the people who died outside? Imagine if a giant popped back to life on the pitch," he said with a soft laugh.

Not that it was funny - because it wasn't - but there was definitely an element of the surreal there.

"I bet a lot of people are thinking that way," he agreed, shoving his hands into his pockets. He thought it would be nice if more of his family came back, and the idea of being able to come back from the dead was awesome in theory, but in practice it was unnerving. Mostly because of all the bad sorts that could return, though.

"Merlin, I hadn't even considered giants," he replied with a surprised laugh, picturing a giant suddenly roaming about the pitch. The school would probably be in a panic if that happened.

His mind wandered briefly to Lily mentioning the pitch being closed and he wondered if she'd heard anything else regarding that before he shook his head. "What about ghosts? D'you reckon they come back where they died too or would they just be alive again where they were haunting?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]not_an_orphan

"Well, don't they haunt where they died?" Tris inquired. He thought that was how it worked, but maybe not. He grinned and rolled his shoulders. "Be funny as hell though, to see the Bloody Baron strolling down the hall. Wonder if he'd get to remember all the stuff he said and did and learned as a ghost. Or Binns," Tris added with a laugh. "C'mon. Have him come back to life in the staff lounge or something?"

He wasn't actually sure where Professor Binns had died, but that would have been funny.

Crossing the street to the quidditch store, he held the door open for Hugo, gesturing grandly for the other wizard to step in ahead of him.

"I think they can haunt where ever they like," Hugo mused, but he wasn't completely sure. "Nearly Headless Nick didn't die at school, did he? I know they had weird punishments back in the day, but I'm not sure they went as far as beheading."

He grinned though; he'd ask his mum later. She usually knew just about everything related to the History of Hogwarts.

"Thanks," he said with a laugh at Tristan's dramatics before stepping into the store and out of the doorway to have a look around. There were some new brooms that had arrived since he'd been here and he nodded in that direction to Tristan and if the other boy was following, he started over.

"Maybe he died out in the forest. That's where the execution site was back in the olden days, right?" he teased as he followed Hugo in. "But yeah, I guess they wouldn't be beheading people in the castle."

Hands once more found his pockets as he strolled along after Hugo toward the brooms. "I wonder if there's been a whole group of Death Eaters together that ... snuck out," he mused. It wasn't as though they'd be turning themselves in, and they likely had old contacts to hook up with. Now that the papers had spilled the phenomenon, maybe the former Death Eaters that weren't in prison were actively looking for fallen comrades.

It was a disturbing thought.

Shaking it off, he ran his hand along the shaft of one of the newer brooms. "Too bad I just had a birthday," he said mournfully. "Suppose I'll have to wait for Christmas to see if I can con my mum into this."

"Right, how could I forget that?" He agreed teasingly and then wondered if anything like that ever did take place at Hogwarts, but kind of doubted it.

Hugo frowned at Tristan's Death Eater thoughts. That was really what everyone was afraid of, wasn't it? "It's weird to think one of them could come back while we're having dinner or something," he murmured, but mostly he tried not to think about it.

"Happy late birthday," he grinned, trying to push thoughts of Death Eaters out of his mind and focus on school shopping and Quidditch. "I figure if I do all right on my OWLs I can maybe get a new broom out of it."

"Wouldn't that be a trip?" he inquired with a grin. Well, not so much if Voldemort or Bellatrix or any of the other Death Eaters who died in the Great Hall.

Which made him wonder. "Do you think ... I mean, Voldemort can't come back, right? Not even with ... whatever's doing this?" Who was to say this magic wouldn't still override ... whatever was keeping Voldemort from making another return?

He laughed and nudged Hugo's side. "Only a couple of months late, but I forgive you."

"He can't come back," Hugo said with the certainty of youth. He was pretty sure it was true, though. "His soul was all ... split up and ruined. I don't think the magic is repairing souls."

Okay, so he really had no idea what so ever about the last bit, but that sounded really complicated and he didn't think it was possible for any sort of magic to do that.

"Better late than never, yeah?" He grinned to the other boy. "I'll buy you an ice cream or something later."

[info]not_an_orphan

"Right," Tristan agreed. He had to believe that, because otherwise they had to deal with the idea that Voldemort wasn't really dead.

Though if the magic could bring back the dead, would a fragmented soul really stop it?

"Ice cream sounds good," he agreed as he moved onto the other quidditch equipment. He thought about a new bat, but his was fine, really ... no need to splurge. Even if the new bats did look very nice.

"So how long are we giving the pair of them before we start stalking them? Or before we do the mature, responsible thing and go buy our books?"

"They'll probably be done with quills and stuff before we're through in here," he reasoned. "How long can you spend looking at writing utensils?"

Well, all right, there were probably folks who could spend just as long quill shopping as he could spend Quidditch shopping. Though, they did have to buy things and he was pretty sure they were just browsing in here.

"Are you buying anything here?" He asked, turning away from a fancy broom cleaning kit to face the other boy. He wasn't, though there were plenty of things he would like to buy.

"I dunno ... Lan can be very picky and kind of girly about his quills," Tris teased. "And if there are colors, it'll take him twice as long."

He shook his head to the question. "Suppose not. Nothing I really need," he offered. A few things he wanted, sure, but nothing he needed. He'd had a decent haul for his birthday.

"Right, so off to be responsible then? Hardly any fun you are."

"We might beat them, then," he allowed with a grin, especially since he thought that store might be busier than this one since just about every student would need quills and parchment, but the Quidditch population was smaller.

"I'll have you know I'm loads of fun, but I will admit to not really being the mastermind. I usually just get swept up in mischief," he shrugged teasingly, nudging Tristan lightly with his elbow before starting out of the store.

Whether they were responsible or not, he assumed they were on their way out.

"What're you going to do now that the head mastermind is gone? Is LilyLu taking over for him?" He grinned. "She planning on doing a lot of mischief sweeping now that there's something fun and exciting going on?"

With a last glance to the brooms, he followed Hugo out. He ran one hand almost absently down Hugo's back before repocketing his hand and falling into step beside him. Really, he knew he shouldn't play. Hugo was kind of on the young side, probably impressionable, and Tris really didn't want to start anything unless they were both sure.

"Books. Books. Books are in the ... Menagerie, right?"

Hugo felt his stomach do an interesting flip when Tristan touched his back like that. It was silly, he knew, and he tried to continue his plan of playing it cool. Anyway, it wasn't as if they could start snogging in the middle of Diagon.

Quirking a grin at the older boy once they were outside, "I thought they were in the post office?" He offered helpfully, "But yeah, Lily is definitely taking up the mantle. I think maybe she was made a prefect just to try to keep her on the right side of the law."

"Post office. Makes sense," he agreed with a nod even as he started down toward the bookstore. Which was probably going to be horrifically crowded.

"Prefect, huh? Pretty sure they do that to the real trouble makers to try to guilt them into behaving." He grinned. "Send her my congratulations," he added with a soft laugh. "Now I know at least one person I'll need to dodge this term."

"Do you know what books Landon needs? Maybe we could get theirs while we're there." Since Meghan was getting him quills, it only seemed fair. Although quills were a lot lighter than books so perhaps he was being a little ambitious.

Walking alongside Tristan, he laughed quietly and pulled a mildly sheepish face. "Ah, you might have to start dodging me then. I made prefect also."

He wasn't exactly sure what the Headmaster had been thinking, making him and Lily prefects, but it would be interesting, that was for sure.

"Yeah. But he's mostly using my old set. Lucky him, having an older friend who takes the same classes," Tris teased.

He laughed softly when Hugo admitted to making prefect. "Bit hard to snog a bloke I'm dodging, isn't it?" he offered, brows arching. "But congratulations all the same. Guess I'll have to corrupt some other youths since I can't well go about getting a prefect in trouble, right?"

Glancing over to the younger wizard, he grinned and wondered if he should scale back the joking some. Not that he'd mind fooling around, but ... well, he should tread carefully with the younger pups, right?

"Did he give you a list of preapproved classes to take?" Hugo asked teasingly, but that was pretty convenient. He thought he'd snag Meg's for her though and pretend he was something of a gentleman.

His stomach did another one of those not at all unpleasant flips when Tristan mentioned snogging and a half grin touched his lips. "Well, you could look at it that way.. or it could be easier for me to sneak around, being a prefect and all," he pointed out.

For the most part, he was kidding since he still hadn't even worked out if he thought Tristan was serious or not. But it was fun to pretend either way.

"Nah. We just happened to have similar tastes in educational desires," Tristan offered, lightly nudging Hugo's side.

"Right. Might be easier for you to sneak around, but I'm still one of the ones the professors keep an eye on," he pointed out. Which he didn't think was true, strictly speaking. He was a prankster, sure, but he wasn't really bad.

He did wonder a little if Hugo was teasing. Seemed that way though, so he was content enough to just play along like they were screwing around. If it turned into something else later, that'd be good. And if it didn't, that'd be good too.

"Well, I can't help you there," he admitted with a soft laugh, "unless they ask us our opinion of students. I'll put in a good word for you. Swear you've changed your fun loving ways. That'll fool them, I'm sure."

He didn't really know how to make a transition from teasing each other about snogging to being serious about it, but again decided that was probably okay. He also wondered if it was different with blokes; how were you supposed to know who was supposed to make the first move?

When they reached the bookshop, he managed not to get run over by a handful of younger kids on their way out before holding the door open for Tris.

"Appreciate the offer, but I know better than that," Tris murmured as he stepped into the shop.

He glanced around, nodding to a few of his teammates when he caught sight of them.

With a grand flourish, he pulled out his book list. "You think they'd have some sort of organization in here. The school should send the lists to the store, who should get the books ready for us ..."

He grinned. "Dunno why they haven't thought that up yet."

"I think they have something against common sense," Hugo decided, fumbling in his pocket for a moment and twice he pulled out the wrong crumbled piece of paper before finding the right one.

"Or they feel this is some sort of right of passage," he mused, glancing dubiously around the store for a moment before returning his gaze to the older boy.

"Meet you out front in a few?" He didn't imagine their books would be anywhere near each other. "Unless you need an escort," he added playfully.

"Sound plan," he agreed with a soft laugh before he pointed. "I'll be over in the big boy books if you get done early," he teased with a wink before squeezing Hugo's shoulder.

He probably really should attempt the "serious talk" thing before he really confused the boy with his potentially mixed signals.

He just didn't know where to go with said talk.

"I guess you can find me in the kid's section then," he replied with a grin, shaking his head lightly. He liked all the little touches, but still wasn't sure what to make of them and he reminded himself once more that he was just going with the flow and not trying to analyze everything.

That was actually sort of easy 'cause he had no idea what any of it meant.

He lifted his hand in a wave before starting off to buy his books and get Meg's while he was at it.

Libra had (after some wheedling, suggesting, and coercing) managed to separate herself from her family and go shopping on her own. It was just to the stationary store, but it was a bit of freedom and she was going to enjoy it.

They hadn't even set a limit on what she should buy!

It was a dream come true. Or it would be if she hadn't been sent specifically for stationary. She'd run out sometime over the summer and it wouldn't do to write home on scraps of parchment.

Despite that, Libra had been drawn to the inks. And it was there she situated herself, basked in hand, blocking off nearly everything as she tried to decided exactly which colours and types to buy. She was actually rather fond of the green and silver...

"I think they sent you for black." Aries grinned as he sidled over to near his cousin's elbow.

Libra had looked a little too ecstatic to be off on her own shopping, so he'd been sent to make sure she didn't get carried away. She was usually pulling the perfect daughter routine, but Aries wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to see her finally get a rebellious streak.

"I'd go for the purple, honestly."

Libra glanced around to make sure no one was looking, then stuck her tongue out at the other blond. "Shoo, you."

Landon and Meghan strolled into the store, and he shadowed Meghan as she headed for the quills. Which were painfully close to the inks. Lan tipped his chin in a nod to Aries before he glanced to Libra.

"Strong team this year?" he inquired without preamble as he swung his eyes back to Aries.

Meghan glanced over to Landon and the two Slytherins and she decided to just ... go about her ink and quill gathering business. Still, she tried to stay close enough to listen without looking like she was listening.

She really wasn't that great at it though, and she kept glancing over to the group of them between selecting quills for herself and Hugo.

Aries put on a patient smile as he picked up a bottle of ink to examine it. "I dunno, Farnsworth. I really think I'm not supposed to talk about it. How's your roster looking?"

Libra came close to rolling her eyes. Another year of Quidditch posturing? She was all for cheering everyone on at the games, but it was rather dull to her out of the context of a team game.

Attempting to be sneaky, Libra pretended to suddenly have a fascination with the quills and slipped quickly around Aries to join Meghan.

"Hullo," she greeted shortly. "Charming quills in stock this year, don't you think?"

"Suppose if you can't talk about yours, I can't talk about mine," he offered with a quiet but slightly exaggerated sigh. He glanced over to the girls before he shook his head and regarded Aries once more. "I mean, maybe Tristan could be conned into telling you something, but ..." He shook his head. "Not me."

Meghan glanced over to Libra and offered her a slight, shy smile. "I guess," she admitted before she shrugged her shoulders lightly. They looked more or less the same to her, though there were a few more colorful ones. She plucked free a purple one, studying it and waving it a few times before putting it away. She'd consider it.

Glancing to the boys, she grinned. "Think that's all they think about? Quidditch?"

"Is he around?" Aries asked. "We could all not talk about Quidditch together."

But honestly, he wasn't sure what was to be gained from this conversation unless it turned another direction. He wasn't really worried about the other team. Slytherin was fairly solid, he thought. They'd lost some players, but they'd be replaced soon enough.

"Suppose you've read that Prophet article?" He was curious what everyone's reactions were.

Libra plucked one of the eagle feathers from the selection and turned it over in her hand before putting it back.

"Likely," Libra agreed quietly, perfectly content to talk with Meghan when it meant escaping her cousin. "Which means we should shop somewhere else."

She gestured vaguely toward the stationary.

Scandal in the Holyhead Harpies locker room, and there was that bit about the cauldron recall, and something about maybe dead people coming back? Didn't know they were doing April Fools in August," he said with a slight grin before he shrugged.

"Yeah. I heard about it before it made the paper though. My grandfather got called in to start dealing with it last weekend. I doubt I was supposed to hear about it, but ..." Lan shrugged and kind of grinned.

Meghan glanced to see what Libra had before she snagged a few plain quills for herself and Hugo before she followed along with Libra. Not that she minded listening to quidditch talk but ... it really wasn't interesting to her.

"How was your summer?" she inquired politely. She really wasn't sure how to talk to the purebloods. At least, the ones she didn't know or wasn't kind-of related to.

"Obviously the biggest practical joke of the century," Aries smiled, giving a little one-shouldered shrug at Lan's joking assessment.

It was curious that people were taking it seriously. Aries wasn't prepared to believe it until he met one of his own dead relatives face to face. He wouldn't even believe it seeing one of the supposed returned. Any young witch or wizard from another part of the country could be brought in and paid off to encourage a hoax.

"Sorry, I forget. What's your grandfather's line of work, exactly? This all seems rather rubbish. Does he buy into it?"

Libra ran her fingers along the parchment, trying to decide which stationary she would have to look at for the rest of term every time she needed to write home or send a note.

None of it really stuck out to her, but she didn't really hate any of it, either.

Glancing at Meghan, Libra lifted one eyebrow slightly with a smile. "Pleasant enough. We went to France for a bit of a holiday. Saw the muggle sights from afar before going to see the wizarding ones. The muggle's big tower is rather droll. Have you seen it?"

Out of the corner of her eye, Libra regarded the other girl curiously. She didn't often have time for any sort of interaction with her, but she thought she remembered that she was muggleborn. Or half? She kept deciding it was the opposite every time she considered.

The girl definitely didn't fit the bill for pureblood, whatever she was.

"He's on the Wizengamot," Landon said. "He ... buys it completely because he knows at least one of the ... the returned deceased personally. Went to school with her and the like."

He hadn't seen anyone, but that didn't make any difference to him. "They were questioned under veritaserum," he added. That he didn't think was public knowledge, but he didn't see anything wrong with adding a fact to back up the statement.

Lan cocked his head before he smiled. "It's ... impossible but happening. What's to be done, really?"

"I ... no. We don't travel much," Meg admitted as she followed Libra around, kind of wondering why she was following Libra around. But ... they were shopping, right? And the boys were talking, so what else was she going to do? Besides, it wasn't like talking to her was ... awkward or anything.

"But that sounds nice," she added after an awkward pause. Studying the paper as well, she pretended to find it very fascinating as she tightened her hand around the quills slightly. "Looking forward to going back to school?"

Aries perked up a little, suddenly feeling a little more friendly toward Landon. Not that he'd felt any large amount of animosity toward him to begin with, but it was always interesting to meet someone with family in high places. The Wizengamot was serious business.

"Is that legal still?" Aries wondered vaguely, trying to recall if he'd ever read up on it. His dad had threatened to use it on him a few times, but he'd never taken the threat seriously.

"Anyway. It's all a bit off to me. One of them's our age, right? Don't suppose we'll be dealing with them at Hogwarts..."

Dead people walking about would be a bit too much to handle while trying to keep up with his studies. He didn't fancy the idea of more competition.

"Aren't you?" Libra wondered, blinking at Meghan in surprise. She didn't see that as a question worth asking. Of course she was looking forward to it. There could only be so much vacation before it all started to run together.

She very much looked forward to the idea of seeing all of her friends again.

"Sort of. I guess it does seem like the summer flew past, though, doesn't it? And there's O.W.L.s." Her nose wrinkled at that thought. She would much rather skip them.

He laughed softly. "I'm pretty sure it's legal if they agree to it, or if there's ... a good solid reason to make them take it." He tilted his head slightly. "I think so," he agreed as he wracked his brain to recall. "Sirius is ... about our age, I'm pretty sure." Which was weird to think about. It was one thing to have them come back right when they'd died, so they remembered (or at least had an idea) that they'd died. But to come back so young?

"Why wouldn't we be dealing at Hogwarts? They're coming back where they died, and ... a lot of people die at the school. On both sides. But I heard there're going to be Aurors around, at least until they figure it out or it shows some sign of stopping."

"No, I am," Meg agreed quickly. She'd apparently never been all that great at small talk, and it was worse when it was a pureblood near-stranger. Sure, they had some classes together, but they didn't run anywhere near the same circles.

Meg nodded. "Landon said they're about as bad as everyone says they are," she admitted. "I'm not really looking forward to that kind of hardcore studying." Not that she
couldn't ... she just ... would prefer not to. But that was a necessity of life at Hogwarts.

"I dunno," Aries said slowly, really thinking about what it would be like with the returnees at school. "What if the magic is temporary? I'd really rather not be sitting next to some bloke when he suddenly reverts to a rotting corpse."

Which brought to mind another thought.

"Are they still in their graves, I wonder?"

It would be weird for the bones of one of the returnees to be existing in the same time period that they were walking about.

Libra nodded, only half paying attention to the other girl. Through their browsing, she had almost managed to get out of Aries line of sight. And he seemed quite content to chat with the other student about who knew what.

It was a good time for slipping away.

"I'm going to go look at robes," she declared suddenly. "Without my cousin. You can come along, if you'd like."

The company might be nice. She didn't know much about the other girl.

Lan pulled a little face at that. What if it was temporary? Or if whoever started it stopped it?

"I don't know. I guess if anyone thought about it, they might dig up the graves and see, but if I was a returned dead, I'm not sure I'd want to see my body in the ground. It'd kind of make me wonder what I really am."

"Oh," Meghan shook her head. "I should probably stay with Lan. To make sure I have a way home," she added. Not that he'd leave without her, but she didn't want to be any trouble, and she had a feeling Libra wouldn't want her announcing their destination, if she wanted to go without her cousin.

"It was nice chatting with you," she offered.

Aries moved forward to pluck the black ink Libra would need off the shelf. He could see out of the corner of his eye that the younger girl was slipping off and he didn't plan to let her get far out of sight.

All of her other faults aside, the main problem he had with his cousin was that she was too mindless of why rules were set. Libra was a little too reckless for his taste.

"Yeah. Hopefully we won't have anything in the way of rotting corpses happening at school. S'pose I'll see you there, Farnsworth. My cousin seems ready to go." Aries jerked his chin toward the girl in question, shrugging.

"You too," Libra offered vaguely, waving to the other girl and hurrying toward the check-out with the stationary she'd snatched up on a whim.

Aries would be missing her any moment now.

"See you," Lan agreed with a slight grin. He watched Libra hurry off and Meghan head back over toward him. He was a little amused, and he'd have to make sure to tell Tris and Hugo about the adventure they'd missed out on.

Gathering some quills and ink and paper for himself, once Meg was ready to go, they checked out and headed off to see if they could find the other half of their party.

Or some other friends. Lan wasn't picky.
