RP: Good Luck?
Characters: Meghan, Bran
Time/Date: Late evening, November 3
Location: 'puff commons
Warnings/Rating: None
Summary: Meghan wants to wish the team luck, if she can find them
Status: Complete

Meghan had been chatting through the journals with Lily, and was glad that her cousin seemed to have come to her senses about the damn Tom-obsession she was developing. That just wasn't healthy. It was much better for Lily to be fixating on ... older French boys who hadn't killed people in a prior incarnation.

Leaving her dorm with her Herbology book to read up on the next class session, Meghan wandered into the commons to see if there was anyone interesting around. She'd settle for chatting up Jaime if no one else was there; she wanted to wish her luck on the upcoming match anyway.

Settling down in one of the more visible couches, she held her book open on her lap before glancing toward the stairs to the dorms. Maybe everyone she'd want to talk to had gone to bed. If that was the case, she'd finish her reading and go there as well.

Returning from the library after finishing an essay that he had put off until the last minute -- he'd had a lot of quidditch strategy to consider -- Brandon smiled as he saw Meghan on the couch. Making his way over, he flopped onto a near by chair, letting his bookbag fall to the floor.

"Hey," he greeted, "how's it going?"

He always felt a little out of touch with the rest of the world right before a match. Though, he supposed he was glad he had quidditch to take his mind off the attack. Most people seemed to be moving past it now anyway and it wasn't the main topic of conversation in his circle of friends anymore.

"Going all right," she said as she glanced over to him a little shyly. She still wasn't quite sure what exactly they were, and their Hogsmeade ... trip, or date, or whatever it was had been regrettably cut short.

"I just kind of came down to ... you know. Wish you guys good luck in the match." Her lips tugged into a little smile. "Lily's throwing in her luck with us since .... since she got cut off the team. Not sure if you read that."

Honestly, Meg wasn't sure how much attention Brandon paid to the journals. "Because of her," Meg gestured vaguely toward her stomach to elaborate on what she meant.

"I heard. About Lily, I mean." He really only looked at journals when he was bored or wanted to send a message to someone, but a couple of his mates were good at passing on any information they read that had to do with Quidditch. "How's she taking it? Being cut."

At least she had next year. He would have been beyond miserable if he got injured and kicked off the team.

"And thanks," he added with a little grin in response to her wishing them lucky.

"Better than I thought she would," Meghan admitted. "I mean, as hard as she struggled to get onto the team in the first place, and how she was already dealing with the ... the first attack. And then to be cut because of another attack ..." She shrugged. "But like she pointed out to me ... it gives her more time to make nice with the French boys." A grin tugged her lips at that admission.

Though Meghan wondered what would have happened if Lily had been with anyone other than her grandmother when the attack hit. Would anyone else have gotten her to help fast enough?

"I'm not sure she's really ... taking it seriously. The attacks I mean, and what ... what almost happened to her." But at least Lily wasn't pursuing Tom, so that was another worry off Meg's chest.

"Anyway," she waved it off. "Maybe the next Hogsmeade trip will go better."

"Maybe it's just too much to take seriously right now," he shrugged his shoulders, unsure if that made sense. It did in his head, but that didn't always mean anything. Lifting a hand to scratch the nape of his neck, he elaborated, "You know? Like it's just easier to continue on like everything's all right."

He shook his head and shrugged once more. He took the attacks seriously, but what could they do about them right now? Be scared? Again he was glad he had Quidditch to focus on.

Smiling a little, he rubbed his neck before dropping his hand back to his lap, "Yeah, our trip sure didn't go how I thought it might. Maybe we should give up on Hogsmeade and try the ball instead," he suggested, raising his brows questioningly.

Meghan's brows furrowed slightly before she shrugged. She thought she understood, but how could anyone not take it seriously? But then ... what was the point in worrying about it? Nothing was going to change if she fretted. "Yeah, I guess. I mean, with the exception of ... of Tom Riddle, it isn't like anything's going to come in here and get us."

She felt vaguely childish for saying it that way, but it was more or less what she was worrying about: the sanctity of the school being violated. The attack in the village was bad enough ... to consider anything breaking into the school was unthinkable.

"Should we try the ball? I don't know ..." Meghan ducked her head slightly, unsure if he was asking her, or just ... suggesting it.

Bran didn't think Riddle would try anything while he was in school. Everyone was watching him, waiting for him to try something. It'd be stupid of him to attack the school or something now. He didn't think Tom Riddle was stupid, although he hadn't ever tried to engage him. Generally stupid people didn't almost manage to take over the wizarding world though.

He didn't want to somehow jinx it, though, so he decided not to comment. With his luck, he'd reassure her and then there'd be some sort of attack on Hogwarts tomorrow.

So instead, he grinned a little and nodded, "Would you like to go to the ball with me?" He asked more directly, unsure if she was just being coy or couldn't really tell if he was asking.

Meghan flushed slightly, and once again found herself wondering if Brandon was actually interested in her, or if she was just ... someone convenient to have around that he wouldn't get too serious about.

Not ... like she was expecting anything serious. He'd be done with school this year and she still had another two years to go, and it was stupid to think he'd wait for some girl he sort of dated in his last year.

Pushing aside the thoughts, she nodded. "Sure, if you really want to," she offered. "I mean, you don't have to ask if there was someone ..." prettier, older, more into quidditch, "...else you wanted to ask."

He gave her a look, but grinned lightly. Shaking his head, he asked, "Do you really think I would ask you if I didn't want to?"

Maybe she did think that; girls were funny that way sometimes. He didn't quite understand it. If he wanted to ask someone else, wouldn't he go... ask someone else?

"Yes," she said with a little shrug. "I mean, not ... not if you didn't want to go, but if there was someone else you'd rather go with, and it was just ... I was here, and our date thing got ruined and you felt bad, and ... and I was here ..."

Meghan shrugged.

"But yes. I'd ... I'd like to go with you," Meghan said, in case she was - somehow - coming off as reluctant. She did want to go with him, and she was still kind of surprised he wanted to go with her.

Yeah, none of that made sense to him. He thought if there was someone else he'd rather go with, he would just ask whoever she was, but he supposed other blokes might do something like that.

"Well, good. You want to go with me, I want to go with you, I think we're all set," he murmured with a grin.

"If I didn't want to go with you, I wouldn't ask," he promised and then went on to tease a little, "I don't really go for the ... complicated, confusing thing. I can try to mix it up though, if you think that sounds boring."

Meghan grinned and shook her head. "No, you don't need to ... to mix it up or anything like that," she assured him. "So what ... um. I'm not sure if we're supposed to try to coordinate colors or whatever. I've never been to a ball before. Obviously," she added with a shake of her head at herself.

"I haven't got a dress yet, so I guess ... that's what the next Hogsmeade trip'll be for."

She paused. "Do you think they'd cancel it? I mean, because of ... of what happened on the last one?"

He grinned, shaking his head lightly. "I've got no idea about colors and matching and all that," he admitted. "But we can, I don't mind."

Inhaling thoughtfully, he cocked his head to the side as he considered, "I hope not. I bet they don't cancel, but there might be... added security or some such thing."

He thought they would have heard already if they were going to cancel it, but maybe not.

Meg nodded. "That's about what Lily said," she admitted. "Maybe she overheard her dad talking about it or something. Guess we'll see when it gets closer. If they're going to cancel or just have a ... a patrol of Aurors around."

That was so ... disturbing to think about.

"I never ... I mean, a lot of people are whispering that this might be, like. The start of a new war. I ... my dad told me a few things, about ... well, what he knew about Harry's adventures at school. About how Harry saved him from dementors once when they were ... fifteen, I guess. But it's weird to think that it might be happening again. That we might have ... dementors running around alleys or something."

Meghan waved one hand. "Sorry. That was ... depressing tangent. I should probably ..." she made a little gesture. "Let you get back to your quidditch planning, huh?"

Brandon shook his head, "Nah, don't apologize. It's on everyone's mind."

He imagined it would be at the forefront of his thoughts once again after their match. His dad had told him a few stories about what it had been like and he couldn't really imagine having to live life perpetually afraid of getting attacked. Living a couple weeks that way was bad enough.

"I should probably get to bed, though," he agreed as he pushed up to his feet. Moving over to her, he leaned in to press a quick kiss to her cheek, "G'night, Meg."

Meg nodded. That was true enough; it was still a 'hot topic' of conversation. Still, she didn't need to bring it up when she'd just come down to wish him luck.

She smiled at the kiss to her cheek, and nodded slightly. "Goodnight, Bran," she murmured as she glanced up to him. "Sleep well and pleasant dreams," she added.
