RP: In which Lily has Instincts
Characters: Lily, Lily Luna, Severus
Time/Date: 11:31 AM, Saturday, October 29, 2023
Location: Hogsmeade/Spinner's End
Warnings/Rating: Blood and violence and maybe a cranky Sev
Summary: Lily reacts to the attack with instinct, not thought
Status: Private, ongoing

Lily had every intention of meeting up with Remus at some point during the day, but thought she'd take her granddaughter to lunch first. They could find Remus afterward ... and hopefully she could avoid any awkward situations with James. He knew by now about Severus, and she wasn't looking forward to any hurt looks - or accusatory ones.

She encountered her granddaughter quickly enough; despite all the Weasleys present, LilyLu's hair did stand out. Lily endured being dragged along to the sweet shop, and was listening as LilyLu chattered on about the happenings at school, about the foreign students, bits of this and that about James and Sirius, and the wolves, the acquisition of the map. LilyLu did mention chatting with Tom, and Lily tried not to react to that. She knew, of course. She'd heard from Harry, and had been profoundly disturbed by the idea of it. Still, Lily hoped her granddaughter was bright enough not to fall for whatever tales Tom was sure to spin.

From elsewhere in the village, Lily heard a very loud noise that sounded like an explosion and she reflexively reached out for her granddaughter to start for the door. Before she'd had time to take a step, there was another explosion with twin echoes much to close to her. Much, much too close to her. Lily screamed and clutched at LilyLuna who was also screaming and crying, and only then was she aware that this building had been a victim of the explosion.

There was no thought to her reaction at all save home, so it was no surprise at all that she popped away from Hogsmeade right into the front room of the house she shared with Severus. She landed in an ungainly tangle of limbs with her granddaughter even as she pulled her wand from her sleeve.

Closing her eyes, she pulled up her patronus. "Explosions, in Hogsmeade. Lily's safe with me." She sent the doe bounding off to Harry, trusting he'd do what he had to, and only then did she notice the blood. Glancing down at herself, she saw her robes indented and clinging to her thigh, and for a moment her brain couldn't process what her eyes were seeing. Her robes were pinned to her, and Lily touched it curiously in a stunned, sort of shocked away. "Lily," she said softly as she turned her eyes to her granddaughter.

LilyLuna was clutching at her stomach, pale and panting, and Lily could see the blood spreading, soaking through her dark robes. "Oh Merlin," she breathed before she called out Sev's name, though surely he was ... on his way or there already. Surely he'd felt them bulling through the wards and surely he'd know something was wrong.

"Shh, love," she breathed. She crouched down and screamed out herself as the fabric tore at whatever was embedded in her thigh, jerking it a little higher. For a moment she thought her world went grey before she made herself focus. Focus on what was important, and that was her granddaughter, and ... she lifted a hand, swatting irritably at the trickle of red that was obscuring the vision in her left eye. Aware of blood smearing across her eye, her cheek, her forehead, she didn't care about herself, not just then.

Severus discarded the empty vial without a second thought. He could clean up later. He grabbed the second vial and repeated the process. That would dull the pain down without putting the girl under. He needed her to be at least semi-alert until he was certain that there was no further internal damage.

Once she'd swallowed the second potion, he summoned a cushion from the couch and a blanket from upstairs and got her a little more comfortable. "We'll need a proper healer here before she can be moved," he murmured quietly to Lily, concealing the wince he felt coming at the thought of more people invading his home. Still, it couldn't be helped. "The Hogwarts healer should be sufficient."

He shifted around so that he could get to Lily and he examined the wound in her leg. "Hold still," he said before yanking the piece of shrapnel out and clamping his hand over the wound as he summoned his wand. Once he had it, he quickly cast another diagnostic spell and then a healing spell. The wound wasn't that bad though she'd be on crutches for a few days while the muscle healed properly. The healer would be able to give a better idea. He also removed the bandage from her forehead and healed that wound. That one was fairly minor - head wounds just bled prodigiously.

He summoned another painkiller and handed it Lily. Only then did he stop and settle down on his knees, looking between Lily and Lily Luna and around at the mess of blood-soaked clothes and down at his bloody hands. He swallowed and shook his head to clear his mind. He'd thought his days of having to deal with this sort of thing was long over.

He drew in a deep breath then cast a patronus. "Lily and your daughter are with me at Spinner's End. Both are fine but I would like a healer to confirm before either are moved. Apparate nearby then knock. My wards are up." The silver doe paused then split in two before both of the does galloped off to deliver the message to Harry and Ginny Potter. Hopefully they would have the sense to remember who and what he'd been and not try and apparate straight in.

Lily pressed her hands to her mouth to stifle the cry as he jerked the shrapnel from her leg. She saw blood and ... wood and metal and she closed her eyes. Her hands dropped down, clutching at whatever she could reach as she tried to steady herself.

"Sorry," she mumbled, trusting he'd know what she was sorry about. All of it, of course, but the specific bits that she shouldn't be burdening him with.

"She's probably busy," Lily reflected as she glanced to LilyLu. She didn't like how pale she was, or the way she was just staring, but what did she expect? Sunshine and rainbows? "The healer, I mean. If there's an attack ... they'll be bringing them up to the school, wouldn't they?"

If there was an attack. She laughed hoarsely at that before she shook her head slightly. Emerald eyes watched the patronuses set off before she turned her eyes to Severus. Harry would be busy, too, but Ginny should be able to get here.

She hoped Ginny didn't have any reports on how bad it was, if only because Lily didn't want to hear them.

Motion caught her eye and she turned her head to watch as Jeremy trotted down the stairs. Her lips twitched into a smile, faint and brief, as the kitten prowled over to her granddaughter, parking himself in her field of vision.

"Probably," Severus said as he scrubbed the blood from his hands in what remained of the water he'd brought up. He banished the bloody water and repeated his little trick, ignoring the small amount of fresh water that sloshed out out of the bowl. "There's no hurry now."

He glanced over at Lily Luna as he soaked the other hand towel in the water and began cleaning the rest of the blood from the girl and then from Lily. He doubted she'd think to do it herself. He could recognise shock when he saw it, having been a victim of it himself more than once.

"Once I'm certain she's stable, I'll move her upstairs." He arched an eyebrow at Lily. "You as well." He then sighed. "You took a risk bringing her here. The wards recognised her as a blood relative which is the only reason they let her through."

"Wasn't thinking," she admitted with a little shrug. "Just ... I wanted to get her somewhere safe, and ... where else would I think to go? Just ... home."

She appreciated the wards, knew they were important, knew there were likely one of the things keeping her from more direct attacks, but she just wasn't used to having to think about things like that. She wondered what would have happened if she couldn't have gone through. Would they just bounce off, hit the roof? The thought was absurdly comical to her, and she snorted a laugh even though it wasn't funny at all.

When Jeremy glanced suddenly to the door, Lily tensed - and regretted it when her leg protested the contraction. Her own eyes moved there as well as she heard the rapid knocks.

Ginny had wanted nothing more than to pop directly to Severus' place, but there'd been mention of a healer, of needing a healer. So she'd thrown Harry's name around at the hospital until a dark haired witch was freed up for her.

"It's me," Ginny called through the door before glancing back at the other witch who stood a respectful distance away. "Ginny," she clarified in case he couldn't recognize her voice.

Severus closed his eyes when she said that this was home. In amongst this chaos and blood and injury, that was one small thing to warm him. This was home. As dingy and dark and... Manchester as it was, it was home to her.

The moment he saw Jeremy's reaction, he started getting to his feet, his wand in his hand. He relaxed when he heard the mostly familiar voice. It certainly sounded like Ginny Weasley, if a bit tempered by time and adulthood. He strode out of the room and opened the door, his wand ready but not openly aggressive. His eyes narrowed when he saw the stranger but she was wearing healer's robes so he lowered the wards enough to let them in.

"Lily Luna had a severe shrapnel injury to her stomach," he said briskly, more to the healer than to Ginny as he lead them back into the living room. "I have removed it and healed her and I cannot detect any further internal bleeding but I would prefer that the wound was checked. I do not know the high level healing spells, only some of the lesser ones. I may have missed something. She has been given a blood-replenishing spell and a mild pain-killer to make her comfortable. Lily had a minor head wound that has been healed but she had a large piece of shrapnel in her leg. It had not hit any major arteries but again I would prefer that it was checked."

He stepped aside to let the healer get to work and allow Ginny to join her daughter and crouched down next to Lily. He brushed his fingers along her cheek gently. "How are you feeling?"

Acevona took all the information in stride, her eyes focused on the older wizard as he spoke. She did appreciate the concise report, and she was pleased that the wizard had a brain in his head and knew enough to act on it. She nodded once he'd finished speaking, and she moved to join Ginny, kneeling down to begin tending to the younger red-headed witch. She did her best to work around Ginny and the tangle of arms the pair had become, and she tried not to listen to the sniffly murmurs from the girl.

But she was good at pretending not to be there when families were having family moments. She just ... did her job.

Lily smiled a little as she recognized Ace, and would have waved or otherwise acknowledged her, but she was clearly busy. Emerald eyes lingered a moment on Lily Luna and Ginny before she glanced to Severus.

"Numb, I think," she murmured. "I ... I don't know. Tired. Scared. Sore." She laughed faintly at that. Lifting a hand, she stroked her fingers along Sev's hair. "I'm not walking up those stairs, in case you had any delusions about that rattling around in your mind." She managed to hold a smile for a few seconds before she glanced again to Ginny and her granddaughter.

Severus drew her into his arms, shifting around so that he was supporting her but out of the way when the healer was finished with Lily Luna. He grimaced at the sight of his blood-stained sleeves. He'd probably ruined this shirt but he had others and a shirt was a small price to pay for saving a life.

He snorted with quiet amusement. "I could carry you upstairs but then you would be stuck there. Or I could transfigure the couch into a bed and you can stay here until your leg will handle the stairs again."

He pressed a kiss into her hair, uncaring as to whether Ginny saw it or not. He no longer had to pretend to be the heartless Death Eater and if it gave some comfort to Lily then that was all that mattered to him. "I am certain that the two of you have utterly ruined my carpet," he murmured with a completely straight face though there was a wealth of amused teasing in his eyes. "And you brought a Potter here. It is entirely possible that the house will crumble around our ears." Now his lips quirked in the smallest of smiles to go along with the teasing in his eyes. He didn't mean any of it of course but the teasing would be a good distraction.

"Well, if I am going to be stuck upstairs, you'd better be prepared to wait on me hand and foot," she teased him softly. "I'll need someone to fetch me food and entertainment, and while Jeremy's quite brilliant, I can't see him dragging books upstairs," she murmured.

"I'll get you a nicer carpet," she replied. "A fluffy one that doesn't have worn spots on it," she teased him back. "And if bringing my granddaughter into the house is going to make it fall down, we'll just have to build it back up before the holidays. I fully intend to bring the entire clan over here. Weasleys too."

If everyone survived. She felt her stomach clench a little at the thought of that. That Harry was out there. Albus Severus and James - both of the James. Sirius and Remus, though she trusted Remus would have the sense Merlin gave ants and get himself back to the castle.

She glanced up to Ace when the witch stepped over, and Lily made a show of sighing and surrendering her leg to the healer. "I trust Relic's going to know about this before I have a chance to tell him?"

"Oh, he'll know," Ace replied quietly as she ran the tip of her wand along Lily's leg, checking her thoroughly before looking to the wound on her head. "She'll be fine, by the way," the healer said before she nodded toward Severus. "The man of the house knows his way around a healing spell."

She patted Lily's shoulder. "And I think you'll survive," she declared. "Just take it easy on the leg for a few days, and don't even try going into work."
