RP: Oblivious
Characters: Avery, Macnair
Time/Date: Evening, August 21, 2023
Location: Three Broomsticks, Hogsmeade
Warnings/Rating: None
Summary: Avery is oblivious to most of the goings on
Status: Complete

Like most of the non-Ministry involved wizarding world, Avery was oblivious to the phenomenon of the returning deceased, and the upcoming tournament to be held at the school. Most of his time was spent in his cottage save for the rare occasions when he ventured into Muggle London to wreak a bit of havoc. Nothing like the old days, of course, but these days he didn't have an alpha to follow.

His own mind could only recycle old plots, and those were tired. He wanted something new. Something big. Something that someone else orchestrated that involved more than petty crimes on the wrong side of things.

He knew there were a few Death Eaters still around, but none that he kept in regular contact with. Too much trouble, and too dangerous to maintain obvious lines of communication. So he did what he did, bumbling around from day to day, seeking what entertainment he could but mostly just living out his days in a bored, quiet monotony.

Wandering into the Broomsticks, he looked around before he found a relatively crowded corner. He liked to listen to the gossip - every once in a while he caught wind of something interesting. He could never figure out anything to do with the news he overheard, but it made him feel more in the loop.

After ordering himself a drink with a request to keep them coming, Avery made his way to a seat to listen to what he could hear.

He dipped his chin in a curt nod, his own mind working to make sense of this. While he liked to think he was smarter than Avery in most cases, he certainly wasn't a genius himself and wasn't able to come up with anything that could explain what was happening. Not anything possible, at least.

Once Avery dropped his name, he studied his old (pun not intended) friend, searching for the young man he remembered. He was sort of in there, but this was so bizarre that he was having difficulty wrapping his mind around it.

"I don't know what the bloody fuck is going on," he began in a hushed voice, "I was on my way to a job and then... I was at Hogwarts. I died?"

Avery shook his head as he tried to wrap his head around that as well. "Someone in the Department of Mysteries screwing around with time magic?" It was as good a guess as any, right?

"You did die. In '98. Battle of Hogwarts." Along with a good portion of the rest of them.

Avery tried to think of who they could go to with this. Rodolphus? Lucius? There weren't a lot of other options, but there was no rush.

They could just see where this went. "How ... old are you, now?" He inquired.

Macnair shook his head, but supposed that could have been it. He was sort of fascinated, looking at Avery and wondering what he looked like when he had died. In '98.

He had a lot of questions, but didn't think all of them were appropriate for the Broomsticks. "I'm 25," he replied. He'd watched the fall of Voldemort when he went after that Potter kid and managed to avoid Azkaban. He actually liked his Ministry job and wondered if there was any way he could manage something like that if he was going to be stuck here.

"I'd like to hear more about it, but maybe somewhere quieter?" He offered with an arch of his brow.

Twenty-five. Wow. Avery shook his head slightly, marveling over this mystery. It wasn't like Macnair had come back from the dead, because then wouldn't he have been the age he'd died? Wasn't that how it worked? He nearly laughed at his thoughts - how it worked. Like returning from the dead was a common phenomenon.

"Yeah," he agreed. "We can go up to my place. Not far from here." He still couldn't wrap his mind around this, and it was kind of funny, really.

Setting some coins on the bar to cover his drinks, he nodded toward the door before easing off the seat. He supposed if nothing else, Macnair could crash at his place for a bit while Avery tried to catch him up on the changes that had befallen the world since the war had ended.
