RP: Surprise!
Characters: Ginny, Harry
Time/Date: Late afternoon, Saturday October 8
Location: Godric's Hollow, Potter home
Warnings/Rating: None. Or married!smut. Who knows?
Summary: Ginny makes a surprise trip home
Status: Complete

Ginny realized that she didn't have patrols that weekend, and Ariana had kindly offered to supervise weekend practices. She imagined the practices would be short, since everyone was likely interested in meeting and getting to know their visitors.

But what that meant was ... Ginny had the weekend off, if she so desired. And she really sort of did desire.

After taking care of a few things and making sure Ari was set to watch practices, Ginny slipped into her tiny office and stepped into the empty fireplace to Floo herself home.

Stepping out into the den, she tilted her head curiously to listen. She hoped to hear either Harry or Jamie, but for all she knew, they'd gone out to a late lunch. If that was the case though, she'd simply be home to surprise them when they did show up.

There was at least a little to chat about, but it would be nice to spend the weekend with her family. Or at least her husband if Jamie was off again.

"I'm surprised you haven't seen him trying to sneak onto school grounds or somehow convince everyone that he needs to repeat seventh year," he quipped in regards to James. He knew it was driving their eldest mad that he couldn't be there for or enter the tournament.

"Plans sound wonderful. Did you have anything in mind?" He tilted his head and nipped lightly at her throat. "I do have to admit that I planned on doing absolutely no more work for the day, so if your plan for some reason involved lots of paperwork or setting up patrol schedules and the like, I'm going to have to veto that one."

"Oh Harry," she said with mock dismay. "I ... actually had planned to use your amazing paperwork skills to set up some charts all about patrol schedules," she said before she sighed.

"So since you've veto'd my idea, guess you'll have to come up with one of your own," she said as she ran her hands down his shoulders to the buttons of his shirt, toying with the top one.

"Though I could offer you a few suggestions. Such as ... reintroducing me to our bed. Or we could go somewhere. Go out to dinner or something like that, as long as you're planning on dodging work."

She kissed along his jaw before she softly claimed his lips. Really, as long as they were spending time together, she didn't really care what they did.

"Suppose I shouldn't be surprised. I knew you only married me for my paperwork skills," he feigned a sigh, though he was momentarily distracted as she toyed with his buttons.

He made a thoughtful noise before he kissed her back, letting his eyes drift closed. This was a very nice surprise, indeed.

Against her lips, he murmured, "Perhaps we should start by reintroducing you to our bed and then maybe our son will grace us with his presence for dinner," though he honestly wasn't sure when James would be home. He'd been vague about hanging out with friends and that could last for the whole day, for all he knew.

"He's doing all right, isn't he? Jamie, I mean?" She imagined they were getting on just fine without her, but she was a mother and it was simply in her nature to worry about her children.

She started to nudge Harry toward the stairs. "And I trust there's been nothing of dramatic importance I should have head about, right? Or you'd have told me?"

After undoing his top button, Ginny stroked her fingertips against the bit of flesh she'd bared.

"He is," he confirmed as he started to take steps backwards towards the stairs. "A little disgruntled that the Falcons aren't starting him yet and that he can't enter the tournament, but nothing earth shattering that I'm aware of."

James could occasionally make those things sound earth shattering, but that was just a gift their son was blessed with.

"Do you know if Al's entering the tournament, speaking of?" He was vaguely amused at the topic of their conversation as he leaned in to tease her throat with his lips, though once they reached the stairs, he released her so they could walk up them.

"I haven't heard if he's decided yet. I suppose we'll find out the night they unveil the goblet for names to be put into it," she murmured. "I trust your lot are going to have round the clock guards on it?"

Sure, what happened last time stood very, very little chance of being repeated, but there were other things that could go wrong - especially if someone returned from the dead while the cup was unguarded.

"We should make a bet on which of us is the first to find out Lily's been fooling around with one of the foreign blokes," Ginny decided as they started up the stairs. Lily was about that age, after all, and all Ginny could hope was that their talks about how to maturely handle boyfriends and sex had actually sunk in, and their daughter was careful.

Ginny knew Lily was impulsive and impetuous, but she also hoped the girl had enough sense to say stop if she wasn't ready.

Once she'd reached the top of the stairs, she made her way into their bedroom, slipping off her shoes before flopping down onto the bed.

"She's a bit too young for them, isn't she?" He asked with a furrow of his brow, but no... he supposed not completely. Ginny had been fifteen when they'd kissed, although he was only a year older and truthfully he thought they all had to grow up too fast back then.

"Oh, but yes. Guards round the clock. Some of the younger ones think I'm a bit mental for all the precaution I believe, but ah well," better safe than sorry was his motto for this tournament.

"So which would you prefer, then? A Durmstrang or a Beauxbatons son in law?" He asked, his lips twitching into a grin. It was either find the situation amusing or drive himself crazy and logically he knew his daughter was growing up.

He untucked his shirt before joining her on the bed, settling on his side to face her.

"Well, we've already got a Beauxbatons student through Fleur. So we may as well aim for the other side. Think I should owl Lily and tell her if she's going to get serious about one of them, to make it one of the Durmstrang one?"

Ginny smiled wryly. "She might be too young for them, but when has that ever mattered to her?" Still, it was slightly perturbing to think of her baby girl getting into a relationship with a bloke closer to being a man than a boy. She wasn't quite so ready to let Lily grow up.

Reaching out, she ran her fingers over Harry's hair. "I don't think it's mental at all. There was death at the last one, and treachery and plots against your life. I'd rather have someone constantly watching the damn cup than risk something happening to Al or any of the other students who enter their names."

While the tournament was dangerous in and of itself, there was no need to leave loopholes for exploitation to make it more dangerous. Especially not with the idea of someone coming back from the dead and getting some ideas.

"Oh, do you think maybe if we encouraged her, it would make it less fun for her?" Harry asked with amused hope, though he didn't actually think so. In theory, he knew things weren't nearly as interesting to kids if their parents approved. However, he had a feeling boys would be interesting to Lily no matter what.

He sighed, draping an arm across Ginny's stomach. He knew Ginny would understand and really, the other Aurors did as well, especially those close to his age.

"So what do you think the odds are of it going smoothly this time around?" At least there shouldn't be any dark plots, knock on wood.

"It's worked before," Ginny mused. "Which means it probably won't work again. Pity she catches on so quickly." Ginny sighed and snuggled closer to Harry. "Can't believe they're all growing up so fast. I mean, Jamie's done with school and playing professional Quidditch. Al's almost out of school, and ... our daughter's interested in boys. Want to bet she tries to bring one home for the holidays?"

Resting her head on Harry's chest, she worked at the rest of the buttons slowly. "I ... hope it does. I don't think anyone's out to plot the demise of the champions, and there's only the hazards that are part of the tournament itself. The only thing we've got to worry about is ... a Death Eater popping back to life somewhere in the castle where they get a student before we discover them."

Which was a very, very real concern, and Ginny was a little terrified Lily would somehow fall victim to another Death Eater returning at the school.

"She's going to have to find a brave one to bring him to any sort of family gathering," which did make him wonder how their holidays would be this year, what with so many new arrivals. Well, it's not as if they'd ever had a shortage of folks around; maybe a handful of new people wouldn't make a difference. "The Triwizard Tournament is one thing, but ... I'm not sure it tops a Potter Weasley family gathering."

He slid one hand into his wife's hair, toying with it gently as she undid his buttons. "I hope so too," he agreed. He wished they knew more about what had caused the dead to come back, but nothing had turned up and he was beginning to doubt they'd ever figure it out.

That was a tired hope though and he blew out a sigh before tilting his head to kiss Ginny's forehead.

"I don't think she'll have a problem with that," Ginny said thoughtfully. Though that made her wonder if the visitors could leave the grounds or not. She didn't see why not, as long as their headmasters agreed.

"I bet she won't warn him though," Ginny continued. Because that seemed like exactly the sort of thing that Lily would 'accidentally' forget to mention. "Do you think ... your parents and Sirius and Remus would want to come?" Though she wondered if it wouldn't be awkward to have the first Lily and James in the same room.

Once she finished with the buttons, she gently ran her nails along Harry's middle, before caressing his chest softly. "I think either way, whoever shows up ..."

Ginny trailed off as her thoughts flit toward Fred. What she wouldn't give to be wandering down the hall some day and see him. "It'll be an adventure," she finished quietly.

"Probably? I don't know, really. Unless they wanted to stay at school over the holidays, which I suppose they might," he was aware of the possible awkwardness, but they were all family, even if a few of them didn't remember.

"Definitely an adventure, though," he agreed, rubbing her back softly. He did have to wonder if people were still steadily coming back and it was just folks they didn't know or weren't getting in touch with the Ministry. While it was convenient that so many had died at Hogwarts who they needed to be on the lookout for, he wished this was happening ... in the summer. Or not at all, if he was making impossible wishes.

"Maybe Lily will spend the holidays with Snape? I can't imagine him wanting to come to a gathering," he almost snorted at the thought.

"She's living with him," Ginny pointed out. "But I imagine she'll at least want to come visit for the holidays. Meet the rest of the family."

She supposed James and the others might want to remain at school. Come to that, so might Lily, with all the excitement being there. After all, she could see her family any time.
Ginny closed her eyes and exhaled a soft sigh. "Well, we'll ask around when it's closer to the holidays. Maybe Teddy will have Remus over," she reflected. Awkward as that was likely to be, she did hope they at least met, soon.

Fingertips played lightly over Harry's chest, her thumb brushing against his nipples. She was kind of sleepy and really thought she might not mind just lounging aroind until dinner ...
