RP: First Night in a Strange Land
Characters: Remy, Hugo
Time/Date: Evening, Friday October 7
Location: Hufflepuff commons
Warnings/Rating: None
Summary: Remy gets to know his hosts
Status: Complete

Requiem had been a little surprised to hear they were being divided. Not upset, per se, but surprised. At the welcoming feast, he'd been directed to a table under a black and yellow banner along with half of the Beauxbatons students who had made the journey to Hogwarts. Aisling was with him, but Sebastien had been directed under the red and gold banner.

Well, that was fine. Pale eyes had swept over the other students present and he tried to guess the ones he'd spoken to in the journals. The chatter was overwhelming though, and he was slow to pick up on things, given the translation lag.

Nothing like being immersed in it to pick it up, right?

The feast had been pleasant, and filling, and foreign, but not bad. There'd been a welcoming speech and a bit about the ceremony that would be held next week to determine the champion. Despite his boasting, he doubted very much he'd be chosen to represent his school ... though he was a little terrified he would be.

After they'd been directed to their commons, prefects had shown them to their rooms - their trunks were already there - before they'd been left to their own devices. Eager to mingle, Remy made his way down into the commons proper, his journal in hand in case conversations were going to start that way.

Remy was intrigued by the idea of secret rooms, and he nodded slightly. He was ... skeptical about it being any sort of room - how would that work, even? - but the castle was already proving to hold many secrets.

Why not a room that changed?

"Might we go see this room then?" he inquired. "Or is it so secret I may only know about it, and not see it?"

Though he supposed they really didn't need to venture off all over while it was so late. They had a curfew to adhere to, after all.

He paused for a beat, but nodded, "Yeah, I can show you," he decided with a grin. "We probably shouldn't stay too long though because of curfew and all."

Though it wasn't as if he'd never been out past curfew, but he was trying to be a little better about it now that he was a prefect.

"Or I could show you tomorrow and we wouldn't have to worry about curfew. Guest's choice," he added playfully, nudging Remy lightly with his elbow.

Remy was silently thoughtful. Aisling would likely have something to say if he saw a secret room she did not. "Perhaps tomorrow, and we may bring Aisling with us. She will want to see secret places, I am sure."

Of course, if they went tonight, he wouldn't have to tell Aisling about it, and he could use it later if he needed to. Decisions, decisions. "Perhaps," he compromised, "you may show me where it is, and I can think while we walk, which I desire to do."

He slung an arm amicably around Hugo's shoulder, grinning to him.

He chuckled quietly as Remy changed his mind ... well, sort of. He hadn't really made up his mind, apparently, but that was fine with Hugo. He wouldn't mind taking a walk either way.

"Sounds good," he agreed, grinning, a little too aware of the older boy's arm around him. It was probably silly and he really wasn't expecting anything though.

"So what's your school like?" He asked as he led Remy towards the stairs that would take them up to the seventh floor.

"It is not like this. It is ... smaller. Not so many floors. It is lighter, more open to the air. Whites and blues not greys," he said with a gesture to the stones composing the walls. "It is warmer as well. We are close to a sea, but it is a warm sea."

He grinned slightly. "The differences are interesting. I think many of my school mates will grow weary of this place soon, but I am finding it has ... many charms to keep my interest." He grinned lightly to Hugo as he followed the other boy along.

He did drop his arm at the first set of stairs, hands sliding into his own pockets as he followed. Pale eyes roamed to survey their surroundings, trying to find landmarks - though if the stairs did move, perhaps that would not be helpful.

"Yeah, there's a lot to get used to here," he admitted with a little grin. "Moving stairs, trick stairs, poltergeists."

It just sort of became normal to him, but he could see how coming from a school without so many ... eccentricities would make it difficult to adjust to Hogwarts and all its little quirks. Having school by an ocean might be neat though.

"You guys will probably be here just long enough to get used to it and then be on your way," he teased as they walked along, moving through hallways and up stairs. He pointed out various things along the way that he thought might be interesting.

When they reached the seventh floor, he pointed to the tapestry, "The entrance is across from here. So what you have to do is walk up and down the hall three times, focusing really hard on what you need," he explained.

He chuckled softly, but that was probably true. It still hadn't settled in completely that he was here until summer. That his last year of schooling would be at Hogwarts and not Beauxbatons.

"Must it be a need?" he inquired as he gazed across from the tapestry to the bare wall. "What if I want only a place with beds to ... ah. To snog comfortably? I would not need this place, but I would desire it."

Not that that was all Remy thought about - really!

Hugo laughed as he shook his head. He was beginning to sense a trend here!

"It should work," he assured the other boy with a grin. "We've used it to play truth or dare a couple times and it gave us a room. I guess it's not that technical unless maybe we really needed a place to play truth or dare."

Maybe the room didn't discriminate between desires and needs. Who knew how it worked really, except that it did.

Remy glanced over to him curiously. "Truth or dare?" he echoed. He wasn't sure he was completely familiar with that idea. "This is a game then?" It didn't exactly sound like a spell or homework, nor did it sound like a wizarding specific game.

"Explain it to me?" he pressed as he moved toward the blank wall, running his hands over the stones. To think a room might just appear here ... it was intriguing.

If the game was what he thought it was, he imagined Aisling would enjoy it immensely.

Oh, he hadn't considered that Truth or Dare might not translate. He wondered if they had a game like it and just called it something else.

"It's a game," he confirmed, leaning against a bare spot of wall as he watched Remy. "It's pretty simple, really. You get a group together and take turns asking each other to pick between a truth or a dare. Then the person gets to either ask a question or think up something they want the other person to do."

He grinned and shrugged his shoulders, "Did that make sense?"

"Mhm," he agreed. It sounded similar to one they'd played. It wasn't generally his type of game ... though playing it in a new place might be interesting. "Do you play often or is it left now for the younger students?"

He turned away from the wall to step toward Hugo. They had mumbled something about curfew, and he thought they should likely head back soon.

"Perhaps we shall have to have a game and get to know everyone who is from the other schools. I am curious about the Durmstrang students."

"We don't play as much as we used to," he admitted and when Remy made his way back over, he pushed away from the wall and started to lead the other boy back down the hall since he assumed they were heading back to the commons.

"That would be fun, though," he agreed, and he was sure Lily would be all for a big game with some of the foreign students. "I'm curious about them too."

He nodded towards the first set of stairs before setting off on their way back.

"Then we are in agreement. We will have a game. Perhaps after the champions have been chosen," he mused - only because he doubted they'd have time to get one together before then.

It would be an interesting end to the feast and ceremony, to have a game up in the secret room and get to know each other better.

Falling into step with Hugo, Remy was content enough to follow him back to the common room. It had been a long trip and he wouldn't mind crashing early.
