RP: To the Infirmary
Characters: Harry, Jamie, a couple Lilys, people who would logically be there
Time/Date: After the chaos, September 1, 2023
Location: Infirmary
Warnings/Rating: IDK
Summary: Harry got the news about Lily
Status: Complete

Harry had been home long enough to engage Jamie and Lily in a debate about what to have for dinner on their first night of 'freedom.' He could tell his son already missed his siblings so he'd agreed to go out even though all he really wanted to do was sit on the couch and relax or fall asleep for a day or two.

He'd made his way upstairs to change into more casual clothes when he got Al's patronus and felt something inside him constrict painfully. There was not enough information in the message and on top of that, he wondered why Al was sending it in the first place. Before he knew it he was downstairs, sharing what he knew with James and Lily, and heading to Hogwarts with them to find out what was going on.

-------------------------------------------------

He didn't stop to talk to the Aurors on scene, but one did walk part of the way to the infirmary with him so he wasn't completely in the dark. Hearing it was Bellatrix did nothing to ease the fears he was trying to keep at bay, however.

James was strangely quiet, walking just a step behind Harry as they finally reached the infirmary and stepped inside to find the rest of their family.

Ginny had reluctantly surrendered Lily to the healer, allowed herself to be ushered out of the room to wait in the main part of the infirmary. Not knowing what was going on was driving her crazy. While she had Al in there for support, and for a reason to be strong. She couldn't break down in front of her son.

She she clung to the pieces of herself, holding herself together as she stared toward the closed door, waiting for some news on her baby girl.

When she heard the door behind her open, she glanced over her shoulder at her husband, her elder son, and her husband's mother. Silently she crossed to Harry and shook her head slightly even as she slid her arms over his shoulders and buried her face against his chest.

Lily felt vaguely awkward, and more than a little frightened. She knew who Bellatrix was, and she shuddered at the thought of the woman being out among the people once more.

She rested a hand briefly on Harry's back before looking for somewhere to be that she wasn't in the way.

Harry's arms wrapped tightly around his wife's waist, holding her protectively, but feeling useless. He couldn't really do anything but be here, right now, and his presence wasn't going to help heal his daughter of whatever curse she'd been hit with.

"Do they know what she was hit with?" He asked quietly, doing his best to somewhat stay in 'Auror mode.' He needed to keep his head on straight.

James swallowed hard when he watched their mum hug their dad like that. He eased uncomfortably into the room and made his way over to Albus, slinging one arm around his younger brother's shoulders, unsure what to even say at the moment.

"No," Ginny said softly. "Not yet. I ... Ashley's still working on her. It was purple, but that doesn't ... help. A lot of things are purple." Just ... nothing that made a person all but dead.

What if she never came out of it? What if she was just ... sleeping or whatever forever?

"No one else came off too bad. Some scratches from debris. The Aurors were a little messed up but ... they signed up for this. Not ... Harry, she's just..."

Just a baby. Just their little girl, and now no one knew what had happened, what was wrong with her. She wiped her hand under her eyes before she pressed her cheek again to Harry's shoulder, holding out an arm for Jamie and Al, gesturing them over.

Lily listened, and she wondered. If it was some spell that Bellatrix had invented, would they be able to figure out what it was? Her thoughts shifted to Severus ... would he know?

Maybe if the healer and the Defense professor couldn't work it out, she'd suggest it. For now though, she was content to hang back and watch, and wait.

Al hadn't said a word since they had arrived in the Hospital Wing. He really didn't think he could. A lump had lodged itself there between that absolute terror that something was wrong with his kid sister that no one could automatically fix and the crushing shame that he had reacted in no way fast enough to prevent anything from happening to her.

Jamie's arm around his shoulder was a little comforting, but Al still couldn't get past it all.

The real terror was not hearing anyone saying that it was a simple fix and Lily'd be okay in an hour or so.

He was seventeen years old and he felt roughly seven.

Al took a breath and moved to give his mum a one-armed hug. The only thing he was glad for was that the family was all here. They couldn't do anything, but it seemed better than being by himself at school with Lily.

"I know," Harry whispered. He wanted more than anything to be able to tell her that Lily would be okay. "Ashley's a good healer and if she doesn't know what the curse was, someone else will."

St. Mungos was full of healers. Someone had to be able to figure it out.

Shifting his position to include his boys in the hug, Harry closed his eyes briefly against the fear he felt for Lily.

Jamie wondered if this was sort of how it felt to be involved in wartime. It sucked, to put it mildly, and he didn't know what they would do if she didn't make it.

He felt a wave of dread wash through him at that thought and decided, "They'll fix her. They have to," with a slight note of desperation.

Ashley never liked when there were seriously wrong things. She'd done what she could, but she was not versed enough in the dark arts - and what else would Bellatrix be using? She had at least managed to ease Lily's discomfort, if the relaxation in her face was an indication, but she was going to have to call in help to sort the spell out.

Stepping out of the room, she hesitated when she saw the Potter family gathered there. It was never any easier when the entire family was involved. She offered Harry a slight smile since he was the one facing her.

"I will 'ave to get our defense professor to come look at 'er. I ... am not sure what 'as been done to 'er. I 'ave done what I could to ensure she is comfortable, but I cannot identify the spell that struck her."

Ginny made a sound that was suspiciously sob-like as she clung tighter to her husband, her sons. Her boys. She nodded, as if she needed to consent to the healer's recommendation, and she drew her head back from Harry.

She could be strong. She'd tough this out. It was her daughter, her little Lily, and she'd survive this.

Lily licked her lips slightly. "I ... if he can't work it out," she hesitated. "Severus might ... he might know." She hated reminding them of Severus' background. It wasn't as though they didn't know he'd been a Death Eater, but she wasn't fond of the reminder.

"I could ... ask him?" Emerald eyes drifted from the healer to her family.

There had been a brief moment of hope when Ashley stepped out, but it was quickly dashed. Merlin, he'd been hoping she wouldn't need anyone else to look into it. He'd wanted it to be simple, easily countered.

He swallowed and nodded to Ashley, also giving consent that wasn't really needed.

When Lily spoke up, Harry glanced towards her as he gently squeezed Ginny's shoulder. "That," he cleared his throat, "yeah, we'd really appreciate that."

Katie had heard. Hell, Katie had seen, and once she'd helped the professors sort things out in the Great Hall and herded the children back to their commons, she'd decided to come check in on Lily.

The odds were good that since it was Bellatrix ... it wasn't going to be anything pretty, or simple.

"Harry," she greeted him softly as she slipped inside, reaching out to squeeze his shoulder lightly. "I'll go have a look?" she inquired as she glanced to Ashley. She didn't think the healer would be out here if there was anything more she could do for her.

She brushed a hand over Ginny's hair. "I'll fix her all right," she promised, and hoped she could follow through on that. Nodding to the others in the room, Katie slipped past them to go see what she could do about LilyLuna.

"She," Lily corrected. She'd simply assumed the Defense professor would be a male, and that, she realized, was sexist of her. Lily thought she'd wait; if Katie could fix it, there was no need to drag Severus out here.

Moving to join the rest of her family, she rubbed Harry's back gently. "If ... if she can't work it out, I'll send a message to him," she assured her son quietly.

It was comforting, at least, that he knew the Defense professor and she was someone he trusted. He nodded a greeting in return, but was having a difficult time coming up with anything to say. Luckily, he was sure no one expected him to be a stunning conversationalist at the moment.

"Thanks," he murmured to Lily, managing something resembling a smile. While Katie went in to check on his daughter, he'd wait and hope in the Infirmary with the rest of his family.

Hopefully Katie would know what was wrong and how to fix it.
