Date: 2 September 2006
Characters: Marlowe Davis and Montague (whose still in his coma)
Private/Public: Private
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Summary: Marlowe decides to go spend time with Montague.
He knew that propriety asked him to stay in the chair put next to Mister Monty's bed. He knew cause Miss Verty sat that lots of times during the day. He saw her lots more then when Mister Monty had started sleeping, but she still sat with Mister Monty at least once a day. He'd snuck into Mister Monty's room a couple times before, each time he'd sat so carefully in the chair, back straight, hands folded politely; he hadn't wanted to upset Miss Verty or Auntie Padma or Uncle Theo if they had caught him.
However, today, today was different. He had something important to tell Mister Monty; he really wanted to talk to him, but since Mister Monty wouldn't wake up that was hard, he'd just have to tell him.
Still, he'd started off in the chair; pulling himself up carefully, sitting straight and saying 'good morning', like he always did (or whatever the appropriate day-greeting was), before just sitting in silence for awhile. He didn't know how to start.
But he was seven now. It was time to do big boy things. He knew he would soon be a big brother and this was important. Looking at the door to Mister Monty's new room, he then slide himself from the plush chair moving slowly, eyes focused on the door still, to the bedside. Blinking once at the door, his eyes' focus returned to the bed and grasping the duvet in tight fists he pulled- the first tug merely bringing more cover towards him, but the second and then third helping him to pull himself on the bed. He hoped Uncle Theo and Miss Verty wouldn't be too mad at him for making the mess as he finally managed to sit on the top, looking down at the crinkled blankets.
Tongue sticking out, Marlowe decided he'd try and help, the pink flesh still stuck out, resting at the side of his mouth, air drying the tip; his small hands tried to smooth out the wrinkles before he finally gave up and turned sucking in a breath, tongue popping back in his mouth as he looked at the sleeping from of Mister Monty.
Rubbing at his nose nervously he then sort of crawled/shimmied to sit next to Mister Monty in the bed, back and head resting against the elaborate headboard, straight as an arrow. He'd still be polite sitting even if he was in bed.
"Mister Monty..." he started quietly, and after a moment realized he must have been much too quiet, Mister Monty would never hear him like that! He slouched then slightly, so his mouth and body was a little closer. "Mister Monty, I believe you should wake up." He stated, trying to use proper full words like he was supposed too, though in a pause he realized he'd forgotten to be super polite. "Please," he quickly then added.
"Miss Verty is going to have the babies soon, and she is very worried Mister Monty. I'm seven now, so I think I can help take care of them, but it would be a lot easier if they had a daddy." He blinked slowly, almost wishing Mister Monty would open his eyes from his words; but when he didn't it was okay, he had lots more to say.
"I think I am going to have'ta call Miss Verty Mummy. I think she would like that; and she's a much better Mummy then Mummy was, did you know Mister Monty? Mummy was very pretty, and she could be nice sometimes, but-" he stopped, he didn't want to be rude, but he was trying to be honest. "But she was mean much more. Miss Verty takes care of me. Do you think Miss Verty would like that Mister Monty?" He asked, leaning a little closer to the sleeping body. There was no answer, but as if seeing something or hearing something no one else could Marlowe smiled. "Your right, I will call her Mummy Verty now. I don't want to confuse the babies either." They might start calling Miss Verty 'Miss Verty' and that would be silly.
"Mister Monty..." Marlowe started again, "can I call you Daddy then?" His head tilted and he looked down, "but Daddy Monty sounds silly." The last words were said with confusion, mostly to himself, and then as if a light went off he smiled, bouncing once. "Papa Monty sounds better. In one of the books Mummy Verty," the name was surprisingly not strange on his lips, "reads me a little boy calls his dad 'papa'. So I will too." He smiled widely at that and unknowingly, he had managed to lay next to Montague, curling slightly towards him.
"Mummy Verty said I might get to start school- I would like that Papa. Liam would be there, I think. He used to talk about school lots." He was silent then, for a long moment, as if lost in his boyish thoughts.
The room was silent for a long time before Marlowe's eyes focused back on Montague. "I think you really should wake up." He stated honestly, quietly, moving a little closer to the warm sleeping body. "I want to go home." He hand reached out then, weakly, almost nervous like, to grasp in Montague's robes, giving a light sigh before moving even closer to him, head almost resting against the broad shoulder. "I'll tell Mummy about-" he began to yawn, suddenly feeling sleepy in the dark, warm room, "Sleeping Beauty. The prince wakes the princess up...with..." his voice began to trail as his other hand reached up to stick his thumb in his mouth, sleep beginning to over take him, "a-" and before he could finish the rest, Marlowe's eyes closed and he was curled, hand fisted in the sleeve, asleep.
