Summary: Theo takes a walk to ponder everything that's going on and runs into Verity in the rose garden.
His mind had been racing since his meeting with Rodolphus, and even more so since the letter he'd received from Severus in response to it. He'd asked the elves to keep an eye on the wards around Upper Slaughter and Lestrange Manor, and also made additional preparations for his own safety, should it be that Rodolphus was deceiving him.
If he distrusted him that much – or worse trusted his betrayal so completely – preparing to have Padma and Nathaniel brought to safety was necessary. He did not like it, but felt it necessary nevertheless. If he suspected Rodolphus had fooled him, Padma would take Nathaniel to Forter Castle. He, himself, would not follow, as that would keep Rodolphus out of the house, but stay behind, and if needed go to Malfoy Manor.
He didn't like either option, though at least the first one had the benefit of his family being safe. For now that was. It had the downside of leaving the Death Eaters in Bellatrix and Rabastan's control. Theo shuddered at the mere thought and it wasn't because of the impending autumn.
He was walking on the grounds with Orthus to clear his mind from everything, and to help him think better. He still needed to find out who had cursed Montague, and what could be done to reverse the curse. The trigger needed to be found, but without the person casting the curse he didn't know how to find out what the trigger for waking him up was.
What was going on with Rodolphus had kept him busy, however, and combined with his usual business, the bank that was finally starting to move and arranging for Padma's and Nathaniel's safety should something happen, he hadn't given Montague's condition the attention it needed. He would have to do that soon – though how he'd find the time he wasn't sure.
He also wasn't sure where to look anymore. The Viscontis was still a lead, and one he would need to follow up more closely, as did he need to look more closely at the other Death Eaters. It was all things he needed to do though – none of it was done.
It was Orthus who called his attention to the figure standing in the rose garden, but he recognised her immediately, even from this distance. He was glad to see her there, as it meant she was walking outside again, not just sitting by Montague's side. In a way her figure reminded him of their youth, when he'd seen her stand as she was now, waiting, knowing he'd come.
He didn't hesitate to walk over, as she'd never wanted to be alone out here in the past. As he entered into the rose garden, he tilted his head and smiled slightly at her, watching to read her mood.
'Hey, Ver. How are you holding up?'
