Jace couldn't sleep, a reoccurring problem lately for him. Normally he'd slip out to do a solo patrol but with so many people living in the building now he didn't want to chance it that often. It wasn't getting out unnoticed that he worried about. It was getting back in that he wasn't so confident about. He'd laid in his bed, staring at the ceiling for a few hours until he couldn't stand it anymore and was sure everyone was sound asleep. It wouldn't disturb them any if he watched TV right? At least until he was tired enough to actually sleep.
Or at least that had been his plan when he'd left his room. But somehow instead he found himself sitting down at the piano he'd bought with the money he'd earned here. He'd bought it with the intention of playing it regularly, music being a part of his training back home - and something that he'd always enjoyed in a way - but so far he hadn't. He'd goofed off with it a few times but he hadn't actually played. He sat there for a moment before starting to play, going back to one of the songs he'd been taught before going to live at the New York Institute. He was playing quietly so that he wouldn't wake up anyone. Not that he'd have noticed if he had as he got more and more absorbed in the music. It was soothing to him, calmed his thoughts and emotions so that he'd hopefully be able to sleep that night.
He reached the end of the song and realized that someone was standing in the room with him. Meja's wards guaranteed that no one could get into the Institute that didn't live there/was a threat to any of them in the house. He started playing again, quietly, waiting to see if whoever it was said something or just went back to their room since they'd figured out what the noise was.
