Who: Boyd and Daniel (and later Daniel and Shane)
What: Homecoming
Where: R1
When: After the last hospital thread
Warnings: None as of now
Boyd was curled in the passenger's side seat of the private ambulance on the ride back from the hospital. The paramedic at the wheel kept giving her shy looks, and she just looked out the window at the snowy cold New York day.
Daniel was in the back, slightly sedated for the trip home, with a paramedic at his side. Vlad's driver had come for him, and Boyd had assured him she would stay in R1 with Daniel while the paramedics got him settled, while Vlad picked up today's dose of Daniel's medicines, along with her own medicines, and set up the dosing schedule for Daniel with the pharmacy. Since Daniel was an outpatient for addiction recovery, they wouldn't provide him a full dose of medication. Daily, Vlad, and anyone Vlad authorized, would be responsible for the medication and the dosing. A nurse would come, first thing in the morning, to check on the stitches, which should be able to come out in a week, if all went well.
It was all technical, and Boyd hadn't focused on any of it when Vlad had told her. She was tired from the medicines and dying to get out of the hospital, where she was sure everyone was listening to every word Vlad and Daniel said. She was going home with Vlad, once he'd returned from the pharmacy, and she wished she felt sure enough about things with Shane to stay with him instead.
When the ambulance stopped, Boyd was thankful of the quiet approach, hopeful not too many people in Bellum would notice their return. She climbed out of the ambulance, not waiting for the driver to come around and help her. Her clothes were too loose, and the hospital bracelet dangled past her wrist. She looked up at the windows as Daniel was brought out on the stretcher, still asleep, and she wondered if Vaughn was looking down at them from one of the glass panes. The thought made her shiver, and she hugged herself as she followed the paramedics inside.
The lobby was empty as she walked in, the oppressive feeling of the building almost lighthearted after the hospital, and she was grateful the elevator came quickly; it went straight to R1. Another thing to be grateful for.
She trailed behind as the paramedics went into Daniel's bedroom and got him settled. She could hear him stirring, waking, but she was looking around the living room in awe. It was as if it was a completely different apartment from the one she'd left. Everything was sparkling clean and aired out. The books were straightened and the papers collected and hidden somewhere out of sight. The bookshelves were filled and dusted, and she couldn't smell whiskey on the air or see a bottle anywhere. She idly wondered how much Daniel would hate it.
The paramedics came out, and they told her that Daniel was awake, and she thanked them for bringing them back. She listened while they told her about knowing her grandmother or her mother or her father, she wasn't sure which, but she smiled sweetly and showed them to the door.
She locked it behind them, and she leaned her forehead against it for a moment. She hadn't seen Daniel even once since they'd taken him out of here, and it didn't escape her notice that she'd been here alone with him when everything fell apart.
She was glad Vlad was coming back; she knew she wasn't old enough, or strong enough, or even sane and sober enough to handle this on her own. She was glad for Vlad.
She walked slowly down the hall to Daniel's bedroom, which mirrored the living room for cleanliness, and she didn't look at him as she crawled onto the foot of the bed and up beside him. The bed was large, but she snuggled against his side, and she hugged him carefully, quietly, silent in the room, the only sound his breathing.
She waited for him to say something.
