Gina had been having an odd day. The night before, she had woken up in confusion after a dream that she still couldn't figure out. Edward was, of course, dead. She knew that. She had come to accept it. Despite the fact that she hadn't seen him for ten years prior, it had still been so hard to come to terms with the fact that he was truly dead. At the hospital, she had been a zombie. She went through the motions and did her job, but there was little heart in it. Though she considered telling Lucas a few times simply to get it out of her head, she didn't dare. After all, he always got so resentful whenever she mentioned Edward.

Luckily, they were going to have dinner with Xavier that night. It was a welcome distraction from the thoughts in her head, and it was nice to be able to put all her focus into something positive. By the time six o'clock had rolled around, the table was set with three places and several plates of food. Oven-baked chicken with a teriyaki glaze seemed like a good way to go, along with boiled potatoes, a veg medley, and oven-warmed bread. Pleased with the spread, Gina ducked into the bathroom to touch up her hair as she heard a knock at the door.

"Lucas!" she called, standing in front of the mirror and fussing with an obnoxious cowlick. "Lucas, honey, can you get the door?"

While Gina saw to dinner, Lucas had busied himself in their office, pouring over papers and financial documents as he tried to make sense of everything, and see if maybe, just maybe, there was some light in this dark tunnel. Things were going south, fast, and he wasn't entirely sure how much longer he could keep Gina in the dark. Whatever news Xavier had he needed to hear. Something had to change.

He looked up at the sound of her voice, calling back to her "Of course, dear!" before stacking the papers up and putting them away, locking the drawer he kept them in. Pocketing the key, Lucas rose and returned to the living room to open the door to their guest. He had a ready smile on his face for the other man, looking sharp as he normally did.

"Xavier. It's so good that you could make it!" he crooned, offering a hand to the other for a shake, pulling him in shortly after.

After the dream with Gina the night before and the realization that he'd shared a dream with Lucas as well, Xavier had found himself more uneasy than usual. Most of the day was spent pacing, trying to find a way to change his plans or speed them along. How could Lucas be so confident? And would he believe he could beat him in the real world? His plans were gone over, fiddled with and sought for problems. Weren't they already fool proof?

He wanted a way out of the dinner - though it had been his suggestion at the first - and couldn't find one either. Instead he could only don his illusions and grab his briefcase when six o'clock came along. Only his features were changed - the hair and nose, as well as his eyes and skin color. He didn't want to risk an accident with clothing. At least he was able to hide his uneasiness and how damp his clothes had gotten. Nervousness had never become him.

Smiling at Lucas as he was pulled in took every acting skill he had - he could see that same smile from his dream still as he mocked him. His grip on the handshake became a little tight, borderline painful as they shook. "I wouldn't miss it for the world," he said through a gritted grin. He took a look around the apartment before managing, "You've set up this place pretty well."

	Xavier didn't know what he'd done that threw her off, but it was far down on his list of priorities. He took another gulp of water, trying desperately to calm down and regain his composure as she returned to normal. "It's been fine," he said, grimacing. 	He gave her a faint smile, beginning to cut up the vegetables in the same microscopic pieces. "It's fine. I'm just helping with things. You must know about his business trouble and the financial issues - bankruptcy is something we all want to avoid." He gave a small smile, honest for once. No intent on causing issues here.
