WHO: Helena and Gina
WHAT: Introductions!
WHERE: Orange County Hospital
WHEN: June 20th afternoon
WARNINGS: One day Helena will have a log over a PG rating. Not today.

Helena had been dozing as best she could most of the day. It felt like she had been at the hospital for a long time now, despite knowing they all were checked in yesterday. Vlad had already been discharged and while he did try to argue staying with her, she remained firm and insisted he go home. He wasn’t going to get any rest sitting in the visitor’s chair and they still had all the pets waiting for them at the penthouse. Now without him she felt decidedly lonely, even a little bored, not that either of them had been much exciting company while they were on medication. Peter had visited the day earlier but she wasn’t expecting him to come by again, and she doubted he’d risk the chance of running into Vlad again.

She was just about to reach for the television remote when she heard a gentle knock at her door. She immediately straightened up in her bed – as was the polite thing to do – and just as quickly regretted the decision, the movement making her move her legs when she shouldn't have and jostle the IVs in her arms. She fell back against her pillows with a soft hiss.

Though Gina was tired, she hid it well. She had been working ever since her plane touched the ground, and it would have been overwhelming if she hadn't had about a decade of experience as a nurse under her belt. This sort of thing happened all the time, though it was tiring whenever it did. As she was new to Orange County Hospital, she was learning where things were as she went, winging it and asking the other nurses for help when necessary. Despite the heavy workload thrown on them all, they were surprisingly helpful to the new kid. She appreciated it.

Now she was checking on patients. She would enter a room, see how they were, check any wounds, and write down the necessary information in their chart: vitals, notes, comments, anything relevant. With three pens in the pocket of her deep purple scrubs, she knocked on the next door she came to. When she didn't hear a protest, she opened the door slowly, peering in. "Hello?" Smiling, she slipped inside.

The chart outside had read "Helena Kelly," the very chart she held against her chest. "Hi, Helena," she said with an easy smile. "I'm Nurse Gina, I'm here to check up on you." Before opening the chart, she just looked at the other woman. "How are you feeling?"

"Good," was her immediate response. It was the one she always gave, no matter what she was really feeling like, no matter who she was talking to. As soon as it slipped out, Helena turned a little sheepish. Now wasn't the time for niceties. "I'm well enough? I can't... I'm not entirely how I should be feeling. But everything's manageable. If something hurts, I stop doing it." She gave Gina a soft smile.

"And if that doesn't work, I ask for more painkillers. They certainly help things." Despite her light tone there was an edge of uncertainty to it, and with the searching look in her eyes it was easy to see she was checking if her answer was acceptable. She was being honest, but still there was shades of her restrained self. Blatantly expressing her own discomfort never sat well with Helena, even when she was in an environment or situation that would deem such complaints acceptable.
