Who: Sam and Archer
What: Drinking
Where: The Juke Joint
When: June 23rd at 8 o'clock
Warnings: So very much whining. Archer is emo and proves to us all why scientists aren't allowed to talk to women.

After Isobel's impromptu visit, Archer was more than ready to meet Sam at the bar. He looked it up online, got directions, printed the directions, drew little notes on the directions, and obsessed over memorizing the directions. Essentially, he was distracting himself. He was trying to come up with every conceivable method possible to avoid having to think about the tears on Isobel's face or the panic that he had felt when she fainted. Every little stupid thing he could think of was a great barrier against the feelings he had to confront.

When it came time to meet Sam, he dressed simply in a plain T-shirt and jeans. Out of his lab coat and button-down shirts, he looked almost normal. He still had a gaunt look about him, and there were several conspicuous red marks on the inside of his left elbow where the nurses in the hospital had tried many times over to insert an IV. The shirt he wore left his elbow bare, showing the marks to the world, but he couldn't be bothered to care.

It was warm enough to not require a jacket, and so he simply locked his apartment and left, wearing just his shirt and pants for the walk to the dive bar. He repeated the directions in his head, fastidiously counting steps and land marks as if that would amount to something. Finally, he reached the horrid little place and went inside.

As it was a weekday, it wasn't crowded. He took a seat at a table, waving the waitress away and mentioning that he was waiting for someone first. Folding his hands, he looked down at the table, waiting for Sam to arrive.

"Yeah, we may as well," Sam agreed. They should head back before the full moon and then the tiger attacked, and it was a sad scene where pathetic humans failed and more rocks fell and everyone died. "Wow, this was fun! Let's get drunk again sometime!"

Leaning against the table, he slowly stood, gesturing for the waitress to come over. "Yes, it was," he said in response to Sam. They split the bill evenly and then left, Archer wobbling and swaying as he burst out the doors and onto the street. "I-I have to say, I have never done this before." He laughed, looking over at Sam. "Got drunk like this, never. Not with somebody outside of my family." The birth of his brother's son had been an occasion involving a lot of booze, but they didn't need to get into that.

The pain in Sam's ribs, and on his back, had faded thanks to the numbing effects of the alcohol - and he was fairly aware of his surroundings, even after consuming half a bottle of vodka in one sitting. "Hey, hey? You know. It's cool," he said seriously, holding Archer steady as they walked, his arm around the man's shoulders like they were going to break out into song. "Because this is what we do. We as men. We get drunk, talk about women, and then get drunk some more."

The arm around his shoulders was strange, but appreciated. He balanced himself delicately against Sam, his tiny frame making him very little weight at all against the other man. At his comment on what men did, he laughed. "Yes, I suppose you're right!" he replied, glancing up at him. "I-I must apologize, I think I did most of the talking tonight. But next time. You can talk. About women. And I will listen."

It was either hold the man steady or let him fall into the street, and friends did not let friends fall into the street while drunk! ...unless there was a video camera handy. But Sam did not have one on him at this current time. Damn it all. He dragged Archer by the arm, like a sack of potatoes, into the building when they reached the lobby. Making sure he didn't fall was one thing, but he wasn't going to carry this dude bridal style up the stairs. No thanks.

"Oh, trust me I will talk," he slurred, then snorted a laugh. "Hopefully you would have worked out all the issues with Ra...puh?" He couldn't say the word for some reason. "That girl! With the! With the hair."

When they reached the building, Archer leaned against the banister of the stairs. "Okay!" he replied, laughing. "You can talk, and then we can talk, and...there will be talking...and...women." He rubbed his temples, unsure of where he was going with this. "Thank you," he said. "I will talk to her. Tomorrow. Not today, because I'm drunk." Snorting, he took one step up the stairs. "I'm on the first floor, so I'm going this way. I will see you later!" Waving, he began to weave his way up the stairs to his floor.
