Ella shook her head. "No. I've seen Vlad, Jane, Rosalie and William," she said, adding with a smile, "and now you." She bit her lip, and she walked just into the edge of the forest, grateful for the cover of the trees. "Have you seen anyone named Helena or Daniel?" she asked, and she got the distinct impression that this was like being in some survivalist horror movie, where the characters went around trying to find each other for two hours, only to learn everyone they ever loved was dead. She didn't like the thought of that. Even survivalist novels were no better, really - those generally didn't even have the false happy ending Hollywood was so fond of.
What she knew of Joanie was limited, and mostly Beauty's knowledge, but she didn't think this woman was likely to be easily offended or need the fake, fairytale view of their situation. "We're completely and utterly screwed, aren't we?" she asked, glad to actually be able to say that after two nights of fake pleasantry and positivity. "It's like Heart of Darkness and really, that turned out terribly badly."
