12:01 on Saturday, June 19, Bellum’s tenants should have been asleep in their beds. Some of them, no doubt, were awake, and would have seen the flash that left them standing with fifteen of the building’s other residents, dressed in a period out of the past, in the middle of a party like no other.

"Well that's not much help," she said pointedly, looking past him as well, heels clicking on the floor as she tried to find some clue, some bit of information that would give them any idea as to what in the world just happened. She was about to ask him another question when a familiar voice drew her attention, turning towards it, eyes wide in surprise.

"Jasper?" she asked, incredulous at his appearance. This was truly getting more than a little strange, and she didn't think she could chalk it up to a dream any longer. "I... I don't know. And I'm fine. Confused, but fine."

Shane backed up a step from the pair. Clearly they knew each other, and he'd just spotted a familiar face a short distance away in Cole. "I wouldn't go far," he said, even as he broke away. "There's a lot of us here, so there has to be an explanation for this."

Then he walked over to Cole, to see if he couldn't get a second opinion on what the hell was going on.

As the other man backed away - clearly he was unimportant - Archer turned to face Isobel. He wanted to take her hand and ensure that she was real, but couldn't bring himself to. Instead, he ran his fingers over his jaw, frowning. "I'm disoriented as well," he said, glancing over his shoulder at the rest of the room. "But I don't think that this is a dream. Or a hoax. It would make sense that this is in the same vein as the rooms we found ourselves locked in last month."

"Astute, Dr. Archer."

His eyes widened, skin paling slightly. Immediately, he looked over his shoulder, twisting slightly to try and find the source of the voice. "Was that-"

"Don't look, you foolish boy." His gaze returned to Isobel, mouth running dry. "And don't stare."

Wincing slightly, Archer turned away from her. "Do-do you recognize anybody else?" he asked, hoping to engage her in some other activity. "Perhaps over there, we might...not be alone."

"We have a lot to discuss, Dr. Archer."

This day couldn't get any worse if it tried.

Isobel watched as Shane walked off, lips pursing for a moment before she turned her attention back towards Archer, curiosity spiking for a moment as he reacted so strangely, as though to something she couldn't see or hear. Chewing on her lip, she tried to look casual, fidgeting a bit with her clutch before she shook her head.

"No. I just... I'm not really sure what's going on. Everyone seems to be in a good enough mood, though," she commented, referring to the people that mingled around them, the scent of tobacco and liquor heavy in the air. "Are... Are you all right? You look troubled."

This was bad. This was so very bad. "The full moon isn't for another week at least," he hissed inside his mind as he took a slight step away from Isobel.

"You shouldn't be so disappointed. This is good." His gaze drifted over the room, through the smoke and hazy air. "Though I must say, I'm disappointed."

"I don't want to hear it." Scowling at nothing, Archer glanced to Isobel. "I'm not," he said flatly, tone mildly irritated. "I'm simply. Surprised. We should see if there is anyone else here that we recognize. And watch the walls, there may be a set of instructions here that we are missing."

She took the scowl and irritated tone personally, and her gaze narrowed faintly. "Right. People we recognize, getting right on that," she said, her voice perhaps a bit too quiet to be easily heard before he stepped away from Jasper and turned on one high heel, quite intending on looking through the rest of the speakeasy to try and put some pieces together. It was already a confusing enough evening without someone outright glaring and acting irritated, as though she had anything to do with this.

Blue eyes swept this way and that, peering around the groups that mingled, scanning their faces for any that looked even remotely familiar. And it was while she was doing that that Isobel became all too aware of the fact that she really didn't know anyone from Bellum. Not really, other than a couple people.

Sighing, she stepped further away, weaving in and out of the people murmuring apologies to those she bumped into.

The way she turned away made his stomach hurt, and he knew he had offended her. "Isobel," he whispered, voice too low for her to hear over the crowd. With a sigh, he raked fingers through his hair, taking a few steps after her.

"You shouldn't be so concerned," came Griffin's voice in his ear. He flinched, fussing with the collar of his suit to distract himself. "Think of this as an opportunity."

With a scowl, Archer moved to Isobel's side, glancing around at the people surrounding them. "Everything is an opportunity with you," he hissed in his mind. "Do you see anyone?" he asked, expression grim.

"Which implies that nothing is for you."

"That's an unfair accusation and you know it."

"Do I?" Fists balling at his sides, Archer let out an exasperated sigh.

"Do you have any idea as to where we might be?" he asked Isobel, trying to banish Griffin's voice from his mind. "They're speaking English with American accents," he said, glancing about. "And I checked a warm fur at the door. Which suggests that we're in the north."

She let out a sigh through gritted teeth when he joined her at her side, arms folding over her chest as she looked around, trying to catch sight of anyone that looked remotely familiar. Leaning to the side, Isobel thought she saw someone.... Trenton, and immediately, she frowned.

"No, no one. Not anyone that I know by face, at least," she answered, glancing over to him, her expression somewhat troubled by his behaviour. In the back of her own mind, a little voice, delicate and light, told her that this wasn't her prince, not at all, and what was she doing out of her tower?! It was time for a frown for Isobel then, and she shook her head.

"I had a lady give me a ticket for a fur as well," she said a moment later, "But nothing is seeming that familiar. Not... not yet."

"I told you that she was useless. Though Marvel was, too, and I made good use of him."

Gnashing his teeth, Archer did his best to split his attention between Isobel and Griffin. "Marvel betrayed you," he replied bitterly. "But we can narrow it down. So far we don't recognize any other residents of Bellum Letale, yet we know that this is not a dream."

"And she won't?"

With a loud huff, Archer turned to Isobel, expression contorted by irritation and confusion. "Griffin's here," he spat, heaving a sigh as if his very presence stressed his body.

"WHY DID YOU TELL HER THAT?"

The screeching made him wince, but he rested a hand on Isobel's shoulder. His face was tense, but the hand was soft. Almost comforting. "This isn't good, Isobel. We'll look for familiar faces, but if we find none, we should leave."

Should could almost feel the tension radiating off of him despite the soft hand on her shoulder, and Isobel swallowed hard, looking towards him with a look that was mostly unreadable. Griffin. At least that explained some things.

For a moment, she chewed on her bottom lip, worrying at it for a moment before she gave a small nod of her head. "He doesn't like me much, does he? Doesn't like you being around me?" The words were quiet, innocently spoken, and that little voice in the back of her own head that she recognized as her own tale hummed softly in agreement.

At her question, he almost laughed. "Not in the least," he said bitterly. "But that doesn't matter. We have to orient ourselves and determine what is happening. This is not the full moon, and yet Griffin is present in my mind. Something new has happened, which means this is a new opportunity to examine this building's secrets." He was trying to stay positive, somewhat.

"You imbecile," Griffin hissed, making his head ache. "Do you think you're being clever, recruiting this girl? She will turn on you in an instant. You heard her conversation with Dorian Gray." Archer tensed, feeling his heart beat faster. "And I know that you read the way she lashed out on his behalf against the entire building, no less. Would she do the same for you? Would she shed a tear for Dr. Jasper Archer?"

Jaw set grimly, Archer did his best to ignore the voice. His hand slid from her shoulder to her elbow, guiding her with forced gentleness through the crowd. "If you recognize anything, let me know."

It didn't matter. She held onto those words for as long as she could, letting him lead her through the crowd, grateful for him being there so she had at least one familiar person in a crowd of strangers. "I don't think we're even in the building any more though," she said softly, just loud enough to be heard by Archer. Moments later, she let out a squeak of surprise as a glass of alcohol was thrust into her hand by a lady weaving through the crowds, depositing drinks on anyone who didn't currently have one. She gave it a look and kept hold of it, not yet taking a drink.

"It might be easier to recognize something once we get out of here," she said a moment later, pressing close against his side so as not to be separated from him. The fact that his tale hated her so much was worrisome, but she tried to keep her thoughts away from it. It just took time to warm up to someone, right?

He nodded. "I agree," he said, eyes narrowing. "We're surely somewhere else. But the question is, where, and in what relation are we to the building? The rooms we were trapped in during the last incident were never given a place in reality as far as I know. I re-entered the building from the basement, seemingly out of thin air. So perhaps there is a door here that will lead back to Bellum Letale." His gaze grew speculative as he glanced at every door he saw.

The alcoholic beverage in his hand caused him to raise a brow. What was this nonsense? He raised it to his nose, taking a slight whiff. "Don't drink that," Griffin warned. "Put it down."

There was a moment when Archer was considering doing as he was told. After all, it probably wasn't good for him to drink this. It'd be best if he put it down and walked away. But he wasn't in the mood to play nicely. "Perhaps it would be beneficial to determine if the substances in this situation are indeed consumable." It was utter bullshit, but Griffin made a small sound of approval. After all, he had conducted his research on himself. He knew what it was like to be a guinea pig.

So without a word, Archer threw back the glass of liquor, ignoring the burn as it raced down his throat. With a gasp, he wiped his lips, shaking his head. "That is...definitely alcohol," he muttered, clearing his throat. "We'll see soon enough if it was safe for human consumption." Looking to Isobel, he leaned against her as well as the crowd pressed in on them. "I agree. Let's make our way to the edge of this room."

"Somehow, I don't think there's a door back home," Isobel said warily, then she went quiet as she watched him look at the glass in his hand, arching a brow when he simply threw it back without even thinking. That made her crook a smile at him, her eyes lighting up the smallest bit. "Alcohol is always fit for human consumption," she said with a grin, and she soon drank her own glass, making a face at the bitter burn, but smiling when all was said and done. Depositing the glass on the nearest surface, she felt the liquor warm her through, giving a fuzzy edge to the world.

She took another look about the room, spying a door towards one end of the room. "That way. I can see a door over there!" Isobel chirped, rising up on her tiptoes the best she could in the heels she had arrived in, pointing in the direction she had seen the door at.

Though Archer had always distrusted inebriation, he didn't mind it now. After all, Griffin was in his head, and he was wearing a suit he didn't own. All bets were off, really. As Isobel downed her glass, he couldn't help the thin smile that formed on his face. "It's strong," he said, patting her lightly on the arm after setting his own glass on the bar as they passed it.

He followed her lead, looking to the door. "Yes, I see it too." He nodded. "Come on."

"This is ridiculous. You'll never learn anything if you remain visible," Griffin remarked bitterly.

"I'm not listening to this." With that, Archer did his best to push Griffin from his mind.

With her arm crooked with his, and the alcohol that was buzzing at her senses, moving through the crowd didn't seem as daunting as it had only moments before. The world around her reminded her of something she couldn't quite put her finger on, but enough visions of exquisitely coiffed hair and the snazzy suits lent her some information.

"The 20s. It feels like we're in the 20s. Like those old movies with gangsters and flappers and all of that!" she exclaimed with a smile, and without waiting for Archer to voice his opinion about that, she turned to the nearest person, pulling away from Archer just a bit so she could tap them on the shoulder.

"Excuse me. Can you tell me the date. I've had a little too much and I've plum forgotten!" She flashed a smile, white teeth against painted lips, and it wasn't long before she had the answer. February 11, 1929. Letting her informant go, she turned to look up towards Archer with a pleased smile. "I was right. Guess some of my history classes stuck with me!"

As she mentioned the 1920's, complete with gangsters and flappers, Archer sighed tersely. "Of course," he muttered. This building was insane. He could suppose that it almost made sense, being thrown in some other time. It made a little bit more sense than having to tag people in a giant fish bowl, so really, this was a step up. At least there were no hungry creatures prowling about.

He was about to question her theory when she decided to take it upon herself to ask. Eyes wide, he stared as she spoke to a complete stranger. What if he was dangerous? Archer stared at her, shocked, until she turned back with a smile and a confirmation of the date. Brow wrinkled, he frowned. "I suppose...that was a good way to gain information..." he muttered, stroking his chin. "Yes, they did. Good job, Isobel. But what can we do with this information?"

Well that had her baffled. "Well, at least we know the when, now?" she said with a hopeful note to her voice. Then there was a giggle and she pulled back towards him, laying her arms over his shoulders, their heights closer together with the heels that pushed her up. "Finding out the where... well. I already look silly askin' for the date, so askin' for the city name might just push it all over the edge." She grinned and leaned in close, cheek resting against her shoulder.

"Maybe it's all a dream. Just a warm, fuzzy dream with liquor and gangsters and fancy dresses, and we can just... enjoy it all." Her voice was soft, lips near his ear, but there was no further push other than that.

And accepting that liquor had been a mistake. He knew that now. Glancing over at her as she draped herself around his shoulders, he sighed. "It isn't particularly believable for two people to forget where they are, and then ask a stranger about it," he muttered, frowning. He was beginning to form a plan when she began to lean more heavily against him, whispering into his ear.

"Focus, boy," Griffin snapped, though Archer barely heard him.

Her voice was so soft, a gentle promise, and for a moment he found himself lost in the moment. Clearing his throat, he gave her arm a gentle squeeze. "As...pleasant as that would be, I find myself unable to trust that this is simply a dream." If he were to dream of Isobel, he imagined she wouldn't be quite so dressed. He hated his male libido some days. "Knowing Bellum Letale, we won't be able to enjoy ourselves for long."

Her lips formed a pout as he squeezed her arm, and she pulled back to look him in the eyes, giving him a tap on the nose. "Fine. Just be a spoil sport," she said with that same tone in her voice, but her smile told a tale that she wasn't upset in the slightest at him.

"Then what do you propose we do? Wait in here until something... happens?"

"I'm not, I simply-" He sighed, realizing that she was just tugging on his chain. Of course. His expression softened slightly as he patted her arm.

At her question, he frowned. "I'm not sure," he said, glancing around. "I suppose we should continue to look for other members of Bellum Letale. But there's no guarantee. There were four people total in the fish bowl, which suggests that the groups of individuals are small in these such events, but there is only one precedent and that does not make a pattern." Touching his fingers to his lips, he looked down, barely recognizing that Isobel was there at all.

"Surveillance is key," Griffin replied stuffily. "You want to see the entire room, boy."

Not realizing that he was speaking out loud to the voice in his head, Archer nodded. "Yes, but what would be the best point for that?" His gaze swept over the speakeasy.

"The stage is raised," Griffin said. "You could infiltrate it easily and observe the entire crowd."

Frowning, Archer turned towards the stage, attention captured. "Would that be wise? Where would I leave the clothing?"

"You could always steal some more," Griffin replied nonchalantly.

"I don't know if I want to be in that predicament," he muttered. This was a difficult situation, for sure.

She watched him think, the way his eyes went distant, and then when he started talking to himself, Isobel thought this to be a good moment to take her leave. So giving him another small smile, she slipped away into the crowd, eyes scanning all those gathered on the lookout for anyone else from Bellum.
