"Everyone has something special in them, a reason for being, or they would not be here. Special does not always mean good, you understand," she told him, and she looked over at him again. "There is too much emphasis on good and bad; on mistakes made. Your mistake, it might have caused something wonderful for someone down the line. We are not alone in this life; it is not only us, and we do not affect only us," she explained, stopping when the fountain was only a few feet away.
"I did not move to New England until I was ten, and there were no shaman there," she admitted. "We had one on the island where I was raised; a man, older than the dirt and just as wise."
