Who: Vaughn & Ella.
What: Discussing how Ella is a horrible, backstabbing sister.
Where: Bottom of R1's stairs.
When: After this.
Warnings: None yet.

Ella and herself had made arrangements to meet, and Vaughn left 1002 shortly after that. She'd been camping out in her old apartment for the past two nights, but she had no intentions to stay for another hour. She couldn't. Shane, everyone, knew that 1002 was her apartment. She could not live in it. She could not live in 104 since Aaron's body showed up, the apartment was to be cleaned and vacated soon. She had nowhere, she had nothing. The truth about her and Boyd's arrangement was out. The best, the worst thing she could do would be to leave. To just get out of the country and let Boyd deal with the aftereffects of her Family. Maybe send a letter linking Rosalie, just to prove a point.

But Vaughn didn't want to leave. She'd made the proposal to Ella, fully aware that the other woman would never leave either. They were sisters, and therefore quite alike. They would never leave Daniel, even if it was for the best.

She waited at the bottom of the stairs, smoking one of her black clove cigarettes, but looked nothing like herself. She was Rosalie, in a black shift dress. Dark pearls on her neck, and a load of darkness in those green eyes.

Ella had slipped out of R1 while Daniel was typing at someone in the bedroom. She was tense and tired; the men had been coming to fix the doors for the past few days, and then others to lay flooring and add security. It had meant that strange men had been walking in and out of R1, and even though Ella had spent most of her time on the balcony, she'd still heard their voices. Everyone sounded like him to her, like the man who'd taken her, and she hadn't slept at all the nights previous.

Gone for a walk, the note she'd left for him on the counter read.

As she left R1, she slipped on the coat Daniel had borrowed from Vlad (it smelled like Daniel now, all musk and warm), and she'd closed the new door softly behind her. She had no idea what (who) to expect at the bottom of the stairs, but there were no vines behind her. She didn't fear Vaughn, not that way. When she reached the bottom landing, and she saw Rosalie there, she only hesitated a moment. Rosalie never wore black like that.

"Sissy," she said, and she stepped forward and hugged the other woman, clung a little too tight and a little too long.

She extinguished her cigarette against the wall when Ella approached. When the woman hugged her, she gave a gentle rub to Ella's back before retreating a step. She surveyed her sister with a twisting, contemplative expression. "You look like hell." Like she hadn't slept in a week, not to mention the cuts and fading bruises.

Ella smiled, but it was a sad thing. "I know," she said, slipping her arm through Vaughn's and nodding toward the Penthouse landing, which meant the possibility of people. The reality of that was enough to make her grip on her sister's arm tighten. "Nothing a little sleep won't fix," she said. "I have had dreams, and I have had nightmares. I overcame the nightmares because of my dreams," she quoted, very much clinging to the safety those words offered her.

"Hmph," she made a low sound, it bordered on acceptance and refusal. She followed Ella's lead toward the Penthouse landing, and her eyes narrowed thoughtfully, "Talk. Tell me what keeps you here." Confess it.

The Penthouse floor was blessedly empty, and Ella looked left and right before moving to the stairs to the Deluxes. "If I can travel, I'll go," she said honestly. "The men came, Sissy, and every time one of them talked I saw things behind my eyes. A noose, tape, a knife. I could hear his voice," she said, starting to shudder slightly, vines trailing behind them and winding about the railing soundlessly. "I want Daniel to be able to live and be free" and not drink.

She did not see Ella's logic in this and bristled with disturbance. "If you can travel, you'll go?" Her eyes, eyes so unlike Vaughn's, gashed wider in disbelief and it was a look that said she might not have even knew who Ella was anymore. "Instead, you would stay in this building, with the exact man who had done this to you? Is that what you would have instead of fucking dealing with it?"

She lit another cigarette, they seemed to come out of nowhere or maybe a deep pocket. "Don't lie to me Ella, this isn't about traveling. You don't want to leave."

The vines swirled thicker on the railing the angrier Vaughn because, and a distant door closing made Ella clap her hands over her ears in fear and back against the wall of the Deluxe level, stifling back a scream, her fear making her run down the remaining steps there. She pressed her back to the wall behind her, and she closed her eyes and counted, forced herself to calm somewhat, to ignore the vines climbing the wall at her back. "I'm not lying. I want you to be happy, and I want my sister, and I want Daniel to be okay, and I want to not be scared. I want all that, Sissy. I'm not being deceptive, and I'm not making anything up," she said, voice a little too loud and a little too shrill with panic. "Shane messaged me just now, and he said you had some girl's money. I don't want anyone to be hurt, Vaughn. I don't want anyone to get killed because he tried to kill you, or because Daniel slept with some girl. I want everyone to be okay. You, Daniel, you both matter to me."

"Please understand," she pleaded.

But Vaughn wasn't angry. That was always the problem, wasn't it? Ella assumed too much and let it get the best of her. One harsh word from Vaughn and her sister was cowering back down the stairs. The vines snapped, brought to life by the jumper cables of Vaughn's stern tone. She stilled, watching her sister.. the complete mess she'd become. It was no exaggeration, she did not recognize Ella in this whimpering, wounded girl. Vaughn wasn't accustomed to trauma, aside from her own, or tiptoeing around the weaker creatures. She didn't confront Ella, and she didn't corner her. Indeed, her expression was soft and hesitant.. until Shane was mentioned.

".. He.. what?" Her eyes tightened, betrayed, before she hissed to keep from shouting, "You're making deals with that dog now?!"

"I am not," Ella yelled back, chin tipping defiantly with the words.

"He messaged me out of the blue, wanting me to say you were threatening me, so you'd give him the money," she said, tripping over her words in her hurry. "I told him I would do no such thing. I told him I'd ask you about it, and that you would give it back if you had it. And I told him it was his own fault for trying to kill you in the first place, but that you didn't want anyone hurt," she said, face flushed with the tumble of words, which were too loud and too desperate.

She was loud enough that anyone in the Deluxes could hear her, could see the vines along the walls, could see Rosalie and Ella fighting in the hall. She was getting angry now, which helped her be less scared. "Do you have the money he mentioned? Because he's desperate, and he's going to get dangerous if the girl gets hurt."

She thought about Daniel and Rosalie at the hospital with the girl, and she wondered if all this was too little, too late.

She sneered at the vines, but managed to keep the majority of her focus on Ella and what was being said. So, Shane was coming up with plans of his own, was he? "Keep your fucking voice down!" She snapped, becoming aware of just how many people could potentially hear what they were discussing. Even if she'd taken precautions to look like someone unassuming, her disguise wasn't going to be for shit if her sister continued this way.

When Ella asked if Vaughn had the money, she tilted her head with a derisive, tired expression. Really? Did Ella even have to ask?

"Good!" She kept her tone low, but it was tight with the urge to not start yelling. "I hope he gets dangerous. I hope he burns this entire fucking building down to find me. I hope he now knows what it's like to think he can lose the one he loves."

Ella took the look to mean that Vaughn did not have the money, and her sister's response made her even more agitated. She did not heed the warning to keep her voice down, and the vines climbed up the staircase to the roof, as if they knew that it was the best option for her well-being.

"Sissy, he thinks you have the money, and he's scared. We have to make him understand that you don't. Daniel cares about the girl who might die; she's close to him, I believe. We need to help." She gave her sister a stern look. "Burning the building down isn't an option," she said, then her expression softened. "I know you love Daniel, and I know Shane hurt him," God did she know. She saw those scars every day, and she shuddered when she saw how close they were to his heart. She knew what the man she'd almost trusted had done, but that didn't mean an innocent girl should die for it. "But that isn't the girl's fault, Sissy,"

She reached out a hand toward her sister's shoulder, and she touched her gently. It was a slight thing, the touch, and even that was tremulous. "Hurting him isn't going to make you feel better; revenge never, ever does," she said softly.

She narrowed her eyes when Ella began talking in circles. Make Shane understand that she didn't have the money? Why would she do that? Even if she lied about it, Shane would believe Boyd. Vaughn wasn't much for lying, anyway, not when the truth was so much more destructive.

"I don't love Daniel," she countered coldly. The expression looked entirely wrong and out of place on Rosalie's pretty, kind features. These days, Vaughn was fairly certain that she hated Daniel.

"It is the girl's fault. You weren't here, Ella, you don't know!" Boyd is the one who had orchestrated that entire thing! She'd intentionally made Shane jealous all the while knowing he was a dangerous man. She barely regarded the hand on her shoulder, and said nothing when Ella proposed the ridiculous notion that revenge wouldn't solve everything. Her eyes were blank, save for annoyance.

"Is this what you wanted to meet me for? To try and.. corner me about this Shane situation?!" Vaughn wasn't somebody to be cornered.

"No!" she assured her. "He didn't even contact me until we'd decided to go for our walk. I wanted to try to go outside," she said, and she stepped away from the wall, and she slid her arm into Vaughn's again, her grip harder than it had been on the stair above. She didn't believe Vaughn hated Daniel, and she didn't think her sister would intentionally let someone die, even if she did have the money in her possession.

"What did she do?" she asked, taking a step toward the stairs again. "The girl?" she asked, because clearly convincing Vaughn that Boyd wasn't responsible was the key here.

Upstairs, Daniel had just gotten done screaming at Shane in text, and he really would have liked to do it in person but right now he had to find Ella and make sure she hadn't gone and done something that would get her in trouble. Daniel's life had quickly shifted to revolve around Ella and her presence in R1, and if it was the Beast's influence, he didn't much care. "Ella? Ella!"

After hastening out into the living room and searching the garden, he found the note she left him and immediately went into panic. Ella didn't go for 'walks.' She didn't go anywhere. She'd been talking about it for a while and, on Micah's rather aggressively disgusted advice, he'd encouraged it, but he didn't think that meant she would just take off.

He was out of R1 and down the stairs, thinking maybe he could catch her before someone else did. "Ella!"

He reached the penthouse floor and caught sight of her, but he didn't stop until he was at her elbow to make sure she was in one piece. The presence of the vines scared him, and he was taut with leftover anger and tension. "You left! Why did you--" And then he realized Rosalie was there. He turned and blinked at her without comprehension. "Rosalie? Why are you here?" He went pale. "Did something happen to Ain?"

"You weren't here," she repeated hotly, although her movements were not abrupt or hostile, she unwound Ella's grip from her arm. "She sent Shane after Dan--"

Ella!

Vaughn went very still as that panicked shout reverberated around the stairwell, retreating a step from Ella when Daniel came spilling into sight with anger and worry. She backed up a little more, mindful of the vines, and said nothing until Daniel's attention went to her.

"I-- no, Daniel, she is fine. I was just on my way upstairs and ran into Ella.." That was believable, right?

Daniel's voice was so surprising that Ella didn't notice Vaughn's retreat at first. He never left R1, and he sounded frightened, and she moved to him without thinking and without immediately remembering that Vaughn looked like Rosalie in that moment.

She reached out and touched his arm reassuringly. "I wanted to see if I could make it outside without panicking. We were talking about Germany, and I was explaining about the vines and the airport," she said truthfully. "And then we began talking about Shane. He messaged me, and he claims Vaughn has some money that belongs to your friend," she said, looking back toward Vaughn and remembering then that the woman looked like someone else and that Daniel might not realize who she was.

"Daniel..."

Daniel's arm slid up Ella's until his hand circled her upper arm, but he still didn't look directly into her face, distracted by Rosalie's presence. As soon as she confirmed Boyd's safety, he relaxed, and the tension went out of his shoulders and expression. "Oh. Are you alright? You seem pale. You should come sit down or something."

As Ella spoke, he took another step toward her, loosing her arm and curling his arm around her waist in automatic comfort for both. His expression went hard as he grimaced with anger. "Shane! The wolf is insane. He sees enemies everywhere and uses everyone else. He wants me to deal with Vaughn again.." He trailed off and then took a step back, tugging at Ella's waist as he spoke. "You should come back inside."

"Do I?" She asked with a smile that was nearly shy, and in dismissive nonchalance, Vaughn rubbed some fingers against a cheek. A healthy flush returned in no time. "I think Ella just startled me, is all.." She shifted on her feet, watching the couple. When Daniel's attention skirted back to Ella, her eyes flashed in a sudden and fierce warning for Ella alone. From the other side of Daniel, her stare very clearly said that if Ella wanted this to go smoothly, she would say nothing about her not really being Rosalie.

"He wants you to.. deal with Vaughn? Why?" There was worry in her words, and it sounded real.

Ella shook her head quickly. Oh, no. She wasn't going to lie to Daniel. She loved her sister, but she wasn't going to do that. She tugged his arm, and she tugged it hard, the vines rearing and slithering quick and thick up the walls. "Vaughn says she doesn't have the money, and so we just need to explain that to Shane," she said, very clearly looking at the blonde woman when she said it. "Daniel, we need to go inside. Now. Please," she pleaded, worried about how Daniel would react to the knowledge that Vaughn was walking around looking like one of his friends. "That's not who you think it is," she added reluctantly in a whisper against his shoulder, hoping Vaughn would not hear.

Daniel, thoroughly distracted by his anger with Shane and his narrow, near loss of Ella, didn't understand nor pay much attention to her warning. Not who he thought it was? It was Rosalie, wasn't it? She was right there! Shaking his head, he said, "If he says she does, she probably does. She lies to get what she wants." Quite willingly, he went along with Ella and the two started moving back up the hallway toward the stair to R1. Daniel hesitated a little, blinking at the vines, and then looking back at Rosalie. "Try to talk to Ain... she's furious with me and I can't talk to her without losing my temper."

Her eyes tightened suspiciously on Ella when she started in with the pleads that they get inside, where it was safe, now, please. "Ella," she called after her as the two began to ascend the stairs to R1. Her name was spoken gently, and it might have bordered on begging. She didn't want Ella to tell Daniel that she wasn't Rosalie. She didn't want to have to see his eyes morph from genial to hateful. But, she shrank back toward the stairs that led to the lower floors rather than draw further attention to herself. "Be safe."

"I'll talk to her, Daniel.." She was all strong assurances before turning away. And while she initially believed that the lasting image of Daniel comforting Ella wasn't particularly poignant, Vaughn was still blinking back tears on her way back down through Bellum.

Ella couldn't help but soften at her sister's tone, but she still pulled Daniel up the stairs as quickly as she could. That one moment made her realize how important it was for her to find her own footing again; she couldn't help Daniel or Vaughn if she was useless.

She couldn't be useless.

When she and Daniel were at the top of the stairs, safe and away, she called out after her sister. "Vaughn, give the money back if you have it." A pause. "Please."

Vaughn was well out of sight, but there was no doubt as to who she was talking to.

She took Daniel's hand, and she tugged him into the safety of R1. She was done being a victim (at least where others could see).
