Who: Everyone!
What: Transformation Plot Post
Where: All over.
When: Moonrise on the 28th.
Warnings: All kinds, I expect.

The moon slipped up past the horizon full, round, and white. Its effects had been predicted, though perhaps not fully believed by the residents of the building.

Moonlight streamed through the windows of the building, washing the city in pale light. For the tenants of Bellum Letale, where ever they were, scattered in the night, it had a tangible effect.

Change rippled through the building, much as it had over a month before. But this was not simply a twitch in the fabric of things, gone in the blink of an eye. It was a rolling change, gradual as the moonrise, tangible, and, in some cases, likely terrifying in its inexorability. People became what they were, what they ought to have been, and what they weren't.

The moon was up, and trouble was about to run high in Bellum.

[Notes: Remember that the events of last month still apply-I.E, those who became vampires will be vampires when they take on their fable form, the Frog Prince will still be human after being turned back last plot, etc. Whether the fables are aware a month has passed since they were last around is up to the players. This log posted with the anon account so that the mods do not wake up tomorrow with 100 notifications in their gmail. Go forth and plot!]

The screaming began just after she'd exited the kitchen. First the Beast and then the woman. She rushed toward the doors (she had none of Ella's trauma, and therefore none of her fears), and she approached the master bedroom first, even though she still had a touch of trepidation at the thought of the Beast. Even still, her main concern was the Beast and not the unknown woman.

In the back of her mind she knew why the woman was there, and she knew it was important to take care of her, but in her current state, the man in the room mattered in a way that was overpowering and only eclipsed by her love for her father. She was there because of him, their fates were intertwined in a way that meant everything else was secondary, even if she was still wary.

She rattled the doorknob to the master bedroom, even as the woman wailed again. The sound, unexpected as it was, scared her enough to start vines in the corners of the room. She looked at them, told them to stop, and they did.

Then she rattled the door open. "Open the door please," she requested, then she stepped back and backed against the wall, in case he did as she'd asked.

The Beast got up from where he'd fallen at the foot of the bed, and the entire building creaked beneath his great weight. He approached the door when he heard the Beauty's voice, and he put a paw up and pushed at the door, but it opened inward. He pawed at the doorknob, but it rattled, and did not turn under the influence of the velvet pad. "I can't," he said, plaintively, in his heavy voice. "Beauty?" He scratched at the door, testing, but it didn't move. "Who else is there?" He put his shoulder against the door and it creaked. He pushed again. "Are you alright?"

Despite how small her necklace was, it was painful to be near it. She inched around it, skirting the almost unbearable force emanating from the crucifix. Her back was pressed up against the walls as she inched to the doorway. She thought she heard voices and she called out, "Jonathan?" hoping that he was there, or at least someone who would know where he was. "Jonathan? Are you here?" She didn't know why he would be in this strange place but why wasn't he with her, or she with him?

Mina finally managed to slip through the door and looked around for the exit. There was a tightness in her throat, the feeling of being parched beyond reason but she tried to ignore it. She knew what it was and it was terrible curse and she refused to give it, or the soft enticing scent of... something... any more thought. She kept looking for the way out, yes, that was what she was doing. She wasn't following the scent at all, no. Never mind that her footsteps weren't leading her to the way she entered.

"I'm fine," she told the Beast through the door, though she hesitated a moment longer before reaching out for the doorknob and trying it (fruitlessly) again, then running her fingers against the door gently. "How do we get you out of there?" she asked, her voice not quite as plaintive as his, but obviously interested in seeing him again, even if she did have butterflies in her stomach at the thought - worry and anticipation combined.

When she heard the other door open, she turned, and she saw the woman at the other end of the hall. "It's a woman," she told the Beast, pausing as she tried to claim Ella's memories, which she still had a very hard time doing. (They were two very separate people, and Beauty did not have easy access to Ella's thoughts - a fact she was grateful for this month). "Her name is Helena," she said through the door. "I will be right back," she told him, and she walked toward Helena. "Hello?" she called out carefully. "I think this came upon them quicker than they expected," she said, as if the they in the sentence would be self-explanatory.

The Beast didn't like Beauty getting farther away, and he didn't wait for her to respond to yet another soft, tentative "Beauty?" before he started pushing at the door again, growling disconsolately. He didn't yet detect a problem; the distant mind of Daniel knew Helena was in R1 and nothing else. He still wanted his Beauty where he could see her, though. He tried to get the lock to turn once more, but his paw was too big.

Once the woman came into view, Mina's jaw tightened, fighting against the thirst that seemed to grow once she had someone in sight. As the woman stepped to her, Mina stepped back. "No," she said quietly, and her hand came up to obscure her mouth. Even if they weren't showing too much, it felt like her fangs were glaringly obvious. "She thought it would be midnight again. And I thought it wouldn't be like this." Mina needed to leave at once, not wanting to hurt anyone and Helena not wanting her to hurt this particular someone. Yet her feet wouldn't move, and her eyes wouldn't look anywhere but at Ella's face and throat, so instead she clasped her hand over her mouth tighter.

She stopped when the woman said no. Mina; that was her name. She put up what she hoped was a soothing hand. "This was expected," she said, because it was, she knew, the thoughts a little easier to access as the moments went on, far away things that belonged to someone else (almost like knowing the plot of a movie you've already seen). "There is no reason to panic," she said, even as she took a small step back toward the door that contained the Beast and safety. Given what had happened with the vampire the last time, Beauty thought this was a very badly thought out plan, and she risked one glance toward the door of R1.

"What is the safest room to house Mina in where she will be safe?" she asked, once her back came into contact with the door the Beast was rattling.

He had to think. The castle wasn't the same. "The study. It has a lock. There is a key in a book on the shelf in the living room. In the Thesaurus." He left off clawing at the doorknob to try to get the tiny lock to turn and sat despondently down to stare intently at the wood, perhaps to make it disappear out of his way by will alone. He thought he'd heard her say something else to the woman, but he couldn't hear properly. "What? What's happening?"

“There is every reason to panic.” Once the woman’s eyes were off her, Mina was moving forward again. The words were registering but she repeated them numbly. “Study. Key. Thesaurus.” She needed to get to them, get waway, lock herself up, but she wasn’t able to stop her advance. She was moving closer and she knew that there would be no mistaking her too pale skin and or the absolute hunger in her scarlet eyes. “You need to get into that room. Join the Beast. Save yourself.” Her hand was reaching toward the woman almost sluggishly, movements slow as Mina fought herself every step of the way. “Please forgive me, Beauty,” she said sadly, her lips turning to grimace before they parted, pearly white fangs ready to lunge.

She screamed, but it was a contained sound, the back of her hand pressing to her mouth to silence it for the benefit of the Beast who couldn't open the door. "Mina, we will get the key, and you will be safe," she said with a trembling voice. Behind Mina's shoulder, vines were climbing and Beauty tried to concentrate on controlling them as she had a moment earlier, on sending them to the bookshelf and having them collect the key for her. It worked, but only barely, sending the Thesaurus clattering to the floor, the key along with it.

She did the only thing she could think of; run. She ran down the hall in a mess of skirts and long hair, past her pale friend, and made a grab for the key.

With his nose to the floor, the Beast got a strong whiff of new greenery, and as the vines crept up over the walls, his alarm had him springing up again. He started hurling himself at the door, and with eight hundred pounds behind him, the door was splintering in one long line from the top of the frame to the doorknob and to the floor. He thought he shouted her name, but it was just a bone-rattling roar as he threw himself at the door again.

Beauty ran and Mina tried to hold back the urge to chase, hands clenching into tight fists and lips clamping shut in hopes of quelling her thirst. And just when she thought she could stand it no more she heard the loud crash. That completely stopped her, never before witnessing anything quite like it. And then the roar sent a frightened tremor through her and she also ran, hands picking up the her long skirts as she went closed the distance between them quickly.

“Hurry,” she pleaded, never more thankful that fear was overriding her hunger. "Lock me up. I dropped a cross earlier, make sure to wear it. Don't let me out." The sooner she was away from everyone, the better. She wanted to get as far as possible from the angry animal and the strange vines.

She had the key in her hand by the time the other woman began talking, and she reminded herself to thank the Beast for buying her that bit of time. The vines clung tight to her, though they did not cut her, and she didn't hesitate even a moment before doing what Mina said. Her fingers shook, and she had to fight to get the key in the lock, but the door eventually opened to the dusty, closed up, windowless room.

She reached back for Mina's hand, fingers closing around a wrist that was cold as ice, and she pulled the other woman toward the door, even as the door to the bedroom continued to splinter. "Go, go, go," she said, knowing that if the Beast considered Mina a threat, he would attack her. Her eyes lit on the crucifix. "I'll put it on once you're locked inside," she assured immediately.

Beauty’s hand on her almost made Mina pause, realizing warm and close she was. And then she was startled once more by the sound of the destruction behind her and she went into the room, flinging the door closed behind her. “Lock it,” she said and leaned against the wood to hold it closed, falling to the ground with her back pressed upon it. That was close.

Vlad had been expecting the change to come at midnight, which meant that he wasn't as prepared as he should have been. This time it was relatively painless, mainly because he barely had time to realize what was happening before it was too late. Dracula was swift, knowing that the man would have fought the change for the sake of his dear Helena. By the time the moonlight poured through his windows, it was no longer Vlad who stood in the middle of the apartment.

Dracula was quite pleased to be free again, clad in the same Transylvanian nobleman's garb as before, and his cloak swirled around his ankles as he strode forward. There was nothing of interest to him in this apartment, not even the two wolves who watched him from the shadowed doorway. He fixed them with a scarlet stare, and immediately the animals bowed their heads in submission, ears flattened against their skulls.

No, what he wanted lay outside this foolish man's home. He sensed that Mina was close, and he took his time making his way up the stairs to R1. He frowned once he reached the door, realizing he couldn't enter of his own free will, but no matter. Mina would come to him, he knew, because she was one of the undead now. Dracula had known that since the moment he'd freed himself from the mortal's body, and his grin was sharp and full of triumph. "Mina," he called, his voice rich and smooth like velvet, "Your master has come for you."

There was a crunching sound as the Beast came through the splinters of the door all at once, hitting the hallway with a thud that probably shook the place to its foundations. His fur was bristled and his back was up, and he looked truly frightening, the long teeth and the low growling the kind of things that hit deep in the human psyche where monkeys still fled predators.

The first thing he saw when he shook off leftover pieces of door frame was his Beauty, who looked to be unharmed despite the strong tinge of her fear in the air. He smelled dead things that hadn't begun to rot, and he stalked down the hallway with his head low until he was at the study door, which he evaluated to see how difficult it would be to get at the female Thing on the other side.

Having discerned that Beauty was whole and unharmed, he didn't trouble himself to attempt to comprehend any words she spoke to him, turning his attention instead to his own doorway. The growl started up again, a hard, rippling sound of threat and dominance. How dare that Thing come here!

She had just finished slipping Helena's crucifix around her neck when the Beast managed to break down the door. She tried to explain to him that Mina was safely inside the locked room and that there was nothing to be concerned with, but she could tell fairly quickly that he was not listening to her. Her hands rested gingerly on her hips as she looked up at him, waiting for him to realize she was currently displeased with his lack of attention, but then he growled at the door.

"There is nothing-" she began to say, but then she heard the voice just outside, and she walked toward it curiously. She, of course, had no intention of opening said door; she knew what was out there. "You can see her come morning," she called through the wood, and she looked back at the Beast, and then at Mina's door. She took the key to the study, and she quickly removed the crucifix just long enough to loop the key on the chain. She slipped it back over her head, hoping the proximity of the key to the crucifix would keep the vampire at bay if he managed to get inside.

It was the growl from the Beast that she heard first, but Mina already knew who had come to call. She was torn once more, her mind screaming and rallying against this presence, not wishing to be anywhere near the foul creature who made her like this. And yet her hands began to claw at the wood of the door. He had called to her and she was to heed him and she was trying with all her might to resist.

“Don’t!” she called out, even as her hands pounded and she tried to break free. “Don’t let him!” Don’t let him get her. Don’t let him get Beauty. Don’t let him come any nearer. Don’t let him try to summon her again.

Dracula remembered the Beast, but he was hardly afraid. He had no need to fear pain, since the only things that could really cause him any harm were holy relics. The fact that Vlad was very capable of being hurt by sharp claws didn't matter to him in the least. In fact, the threatening growl only served to bore him.

"I will see her now, foolish child." He would have liked to finally be free to finish what he'd started with the woman on the other side of the door, Beauty or whoever she was; but right now it was imperative that he get Mina out of there so they could find Lucy. It was already beginning, the slow but methodical takeover of the undead, and no one would stand in his way. His voice became low and hypnotic, a far cry from the growl with which he'd addressed Beauty. "Do not fight your instincts, Mina. Leave wherever you are and come to me - there is so much we need to do, and so little time in which to do it." He paused, tilting his head to the side. "Either leave the Beast's home or invite me in. You know you cannot fight this."

The Beast continued to growl, but Beauty listened. Mina did not want the man outside to come into the apartment, and Beauty was inclined to agree with the woman's feelings on this matter. The hypnotic voice, she felt, was cheating. She assumed it had some sort of pull that drew the other woman in, and she had a very bad feeling about voices with any sort of abilities of that ilk these days. She backed toward the Beast carefully, until she felt his warmth at her back, the key and crucifix clinking at her throat, and then she tried to will the vines to do her bidding again. It was a haphazard execution, but a few of the vines slithered toward the apartment's front door, to where she could see the feet of the man outside, and they wound themselves tightly around his ankles. It would, she hoped, be enough to distract him from using that hypnotic voice again.

"She does not want to see you," she called to the man outside certainly.

He was right, she couldn't fight it, and her hands, her legs, and her shoulders angrily pounded and crashed against the door. She wasn't the Beast, and she hadn't yet fed. Mina didn't have the strength to take down the door in a matter of seconds. But it was bending and splintering under her constant pressure, just as her resistance was crumbling under Dracula's commands. She could hear Beauty's refusal and she let loose another low wail, more akin to a sob, for it didn't matter how much she didn't want to see him. She was going to take this door down and make a break for the entrance as soon as she was able.

Dracula was beginning to lose his patience, and the vines that wound around his ankles only chipped away at his cool exterior. Foolish mortals, daring to disobey him - had he not shown them who he was before? Did they not know his power? Beauty was the most foolish of them all if she thought vines would stop him.

He swiped at the offending plants with inhumanly sharp fingernails, his curved fangs bared in a snarl. "Beware, girl, of how you speak to me. Mina is mine now, just as her friend Lucy is, and just as all of you shall be - if I so choose. Perhaps eternal life will be denied to you, and all you shall receive is death itself." He knew Mina wanted to be free, and he focused all of his energy on her. If he was to meet Van Helsing, to have the women he'd fought so hard to protect on his side would be most advantageous. She would do his biding once she was free, and even if he became imprisoned once more, the next time there would - or so he planned - be even more of the undead awakening.

"Whatever barriers they have are nothing you to any longer, Mina. You are one of the undead, and now you will leave this place and join me."

The Beast's huge maned head swung back to look at the hallway, where Mina was slowly breaking through the door, slow but steadily. He felt no sympathy for the woman she had been, the one that kept crying. The Beast didn't much care for having Dead Things in his house, but having the smaller one locked up was much preferable to the bigger one in the entryway. Settling for this solution without using any of Beauty's input (though that probably would have been more sensible), the Beast moved around her, fur on end.

"If the dead thing comes out of that room I will tear her up before she gets to you," the Beast growled at the thing outside.

He better be bluffing. Still, she was scared enough of the truth of the threat that the vines started reinforcing the door Mina was behind, creating a thick, sharp wall of briers that were as sturdy as they were pointed, effectively blocking the woman in and strengthening what was left of the wood.

She tried to edge past the Beast, though it was a near impossibility, so she just stayed close, and slid her fingers through the fur at his back to get his attention. "We need her alive to keep him from hurting anything," she said softly, the knowledge that hurting the woman was not an option very clear in her mind. "If you hurt her, he's just going to hurt me in return."

She finally managed a crack in the door finally, her hand shooting out suddenly only to scrape hard against the new wall that had sprung up. She screeched angrily and pulled it back, looking at the cuts on her sleeves and skin and seeing no blood pour forth. She kicked the door again but it wouldn’t give way. Another push and it wouldn’t budge.

“I can’t!” she called out to him, which only left her to follow his other command. She prayed it wouldn’t work - this house wasn’t her home after all - but her hopes wouldn’t stop her from obeying his order. “You’d have to come in,” she hissed through clenched teeth. “Come in,” she invited him, pounding an angry fist and denting the wall by the door.
