What: Processing -- in their own way

When: The evening of the day after the Fables Night
Warnings: Vices of all sorts: drinking, smoking, swearing, innuendo.

With Quincey in one arm, a cigarette in her other hand, Kiki stomped out of the apartment and down the hall toward Ed's. She didn't care if she scared or startled Peter and Lena as she slammed the door; she was feeling jumpy and restless and angry -- and someone had to pay. Vlad was out of the question: despite his reassurances, she wasn't entirely convinced he wouldn't try to maul her again, either out of blood lust (ew) or desire (hm). So it had to be Ed, who's only sin had been showing her a good time earlier in the week.

At his door, she kicked it delicately with her Zanotti pumps before pounding at it with the heel of her hand, arching her body away from the ash being bounced off her cigarette. "Open the fucking door!" she shouted, unconcerned with the volume of her voice. "Now! Or I'm going to call the super to let me in!" That was an idle threat, she knew, but the drama would be enough to make him answer her, she hoped.

He reached over and gently stroked her arm, as if drawn to touch her almost without thinking--the way one seeks to touch a relaxing kitten. He gave a sad smile and closed his eyes. "When we got back after our date I was in the best mood imaginable. And then...it's like I walked into the apartment and everything just...changed. I was restless. Angry..." He opened his eyes and looked at her. Not joking. Wanting to keep his earlier promise to be honest. "All the terrible things I usually am. You chased them away and then they came back..." Then he smiled a slightly ironic smile. "So...I was out corrupting not-so-innocents. They were on the prowl. They got exactly what they shouldn't have wished for," the last part sounded cynical. He sighed.

But then he focused on her again. "What happened? You okay?" He was worried. Huh. Imagine that. "Anything I can do?"

"Well, no, I'm not really fucking fine," she whined, and she immediately wilted against him. "I got home and suddenly I was in this stupid fucking dress -- it was so ugly -- and Lena and Peter were being weird and then fucking Vlad came over and he fucking bit me!" Lifting her head, she blinked back crocodile tears and appealed to Ed before dramatically pushing aside her hank of blond hair, revealing the angry, red marks on her neck.

"And now everyone is saying he's fucking Dracula--" Her voice caught with real emotion now; the confusion of the last few days was catching up with her, leaving her feeling raw and exposed. "--and he tried to kill me? But I just don't understand!"

When she wilted against him, he wrapped an arm protectively around her. Listening close he tried to make sense of what she said. Did she say bit? Ed blinked as he tried to make out the red marks on her neck.

"Wait...Vlad bit you? Was this like...well never mind..." She was too upset--and talking about killing, so the guess was that it wasn't a sex game gone wrong. "You mean people are saying it's real? The Fable stuff? And Vlad is actually some reincarnated version of Dracula?" He paused, tightening his arms around her and stroking her hair soothingly. "Have you talked to Vlad about it? Do you believe what they tell you?"

He didn't want to think about what he believed or what it might mean for him and his possible Fable. He would focus on KiKi and what she believed, what she needed. Her reality would be much safer--for them both--than his.

"I don't know!" Her voice broke into a wail which brought Quincey over; the dog made a pathetic whining noise until she scooped him up, and she plopped him into her lap. Quincey scrambled for footing and half settled against her legs and Ed's.

"I mean, that's so fucking stupid, right, that people are characters from books but Vlad and Pete and Lena all say it's true and they wouldn't lie would they?" Another pleading look at Ed. "It's so fucking unfair you missed all of this! Some stupid fucker from the building barged in when Vlad was--biting--Lena--" She sounded jealous, she knew, but at the moment, she didn't care. Why did Vlad want stupid fucking Lena anyway? If if the allure came simply because she was married, she's wasn't that pretty...

He put a hand down to pet the dog that seemed to think both laps were fair game for squatting rights. Rubbing the dogs head between its ears and KiKi's shoulder and upper arm with his other hand, he tried to soothe both beauty and beast at the same time. Wait. Wrong fucking fairytale... he thought to himself with a confused grimace.

"Well...it may be stupid, but the fact is that just because something doesn't make sense or seems surreal doesn't mean it can't have some grounding in truth. I don't think Peter or Lena would lie to you about something like this--but have you, well have you tried to talk to Vlad?" Ed knew Vlad. He liked Vlad. Or he thought he liked Vlad.

He definitely needed a drink.

When KiKi's voice took on a slightly jealous tone at the mention of Lena he couldn't help but smile. Only KiKi could manage to feel jealous of another woman getting attention from a man who was potentially a vampire. "Well, it's good that the stupid fucker showed up when he did...or else you and Lena might have been even more seriously hurt..." He wondered just how how hurt they were and turned to look KiKi over with a worried, sharp gaze. "You are okay, physically, I mean? No serious damage done?"

Settling herself more firmly against Ed, she made a small noise of satisfaction. This is what she wanted from Vlad and Lena and Pete, and only Lena had been kind enough to give it to her. At Ed's question about Vlad, she tensed as if about to throw a petulant fit.

"Vlad says it's fucking true!" Her nose curled up into a kind of sneer. "He's fucking sorry, he wasn't his fucking self, he didn't mean for it to fucking happen..." She made a noise of disdain. "But no one seems that fucking sorry, really, and I don't fucking understand what it means. Am I fucking vampire? I don't even fucking like vampire movies!"

He turned to kiss her temple and then her hair as she tensed up during her mild tirade about Vlad. "I doubt you're a vampire Katherine. Even if it is all true, things seem to have gone back to normal--more or less--right? Whatever happened was probably just a crazy fluke..." He thought of the blackout from before. "Weird things happen in this building, but I don't think you need to worry about being a vampire," he tried to sound as confident as possible given that he had no fucking clue what was really going on.

Then he gave her a warm smile and kissed her cheek. "And maybe you don't like vampire movies, but you do realize that some people consider them quite sexy...and you my gorgeous creature would make a fabulously sexy vampire..." He knew that teasing was a risk. But he hoped that the playful compliment would help soothe her.

Finally he sighed and stopped petting the dog so he could wrap both arms around her. "I'm so sorry kitten. I'm sorry you had to go through this and that none of us can make it better..." he whispered into her hair.

Ed's kisses were balm, even if she wanted to pretend otherwise, and Kiki let out one shuddering sigh and snuggled closer. Quincey whined at being jostled, and Kiki cooed at the dog for a moment, absorbing Ed's compliments and sympathy with a kind of assumptive magnanimity.

"Well, I do think I'd make a sexy vampire," she agreed, and she finally broke out into a coquettish smile. "Far better than any vampire Lena could be!"

"You would make such a sexy vampire that it would really be unfair to add immortal-charm to your already long list of charms... I mean, really, now... How could anyone mortal or immortal ever hope to resist you?" He teased gently, reaching back down to pet the dog some more and only pausing for a moment to how he ended up with a dog in his lap instead of a girl in his bed. He smiled to himself at the way his behavior changed around KiKi.

"Are you worried about Vlad hurting you again?" he finally asked, not wanting to open the sore topic again but not sure whether she had any sense of an ongoing threat. Not that he knew what to do if Vlad really was a threat. But still. If she was worried, they needed to do something. "Do you feel safe n the building? Do you feel safe with Peter and Lena?"

"I'm fine," Kiki said bravely, but she pouted a little to make sure Ed didn't think she was too tough. "I told Vlad he had to let me crash with him--" She flicked her gaze up at Ed then to gauge his reaction. "--as a way of apologizing. Like I fucking want to be third wheel to a fucking married couple." She settled back against Ed, reassured by his solid warmth and low voice. She would deny it, of course, but at the moment, she might even be happy.

He raised an eyebrow when she said she was going to crash with Vlad. He wasnt' sure if he was bemused by her shift from being upset with Vlad to wanting to stay with him or jealous over the fact that she made the shift. He took a minute before answering, stroking her arm gently and breathing against her soft blond hair as he (and the dog) snuggled against her.

"If you feel safe with Vlad that's a good thing and I can see why you'd not want to be a third wheel so to speak... But if you wanted to get out of Peter and Lena's, you could have stayed with me..." he sounded like he was half musing out loud. "Of course you don't know me all that well... so perhaps that's not a good solution..."

Yep. Jealous. Fuck him. He was jealous. Wasn't that a turn of events. He stared at the top of the dog's head and hoped that neither the dog nor KiKi could read his thoughts.

"It's not that he's safe," Kiki grumbled. "I don't want to be safe, I just want to crash somewhere fun." Initially she wanted to stay with Vlad to see if they could spark up something again and because she thought Peter was mean. But lately, her feelings had shifted: she was growing more fond of Peter and more impatient with Vlad. She didn't say any of that, however; instead, she shrugged against Ed until his trailing sentence, then she leaned back and grinned at him, wide and delighted.

"Oh, aren't you just a fucking player," she shrieked, delighted. "Is this part of the grand seduction? Pretend to offer safe harbor and then take advantage of the girl?" Smug, she wiggled back against Ed. "You better fucking watch it, I might take you up on your offer, and then what are you going to do?" She tipped her head back to look up at Ed. "Where would you take your conquests then if I was here?"

Ed chuckled at her insistence that fun was the issue. Nuzzling into her hair for a moment he wondered whether to scold her for not taking safety more seriously or to applaud her for her consistent priorities.

"Darling...you do realize that you are talking about crashing at the apartment of a man whom you just accused of biting you and possibly trying to kill you...don't you think that safety ought to be a concern?" He didn't really think Vlad was dangerous--or he didn't want to think that--but he found her perspective a bit unsettling. Plus, he wasn't sure how else to argue against her staying at Vlad's.

At the comment about being a player he had to grin. "I told you that I'm a player... but still, there's nothing that says I can't be a player that actually provides safe harbor. I"m not offering to protect your virtue, kitten, I'm worried about your physical wellbeing..." She wiggled closer and he tightened his hold, marveling at simple it was to settle into having her close without feeling trapped by the intimacy. He kissed her cheek and nipped at her earlobe. "If you take me up on my offer I'm guessing I'll have to put furniture in the second bedroom--unless you plan to kick me out of my bed. And I guess I'll just have to hold off on making any conquests for the time being..." He thought of the previous 24 hours and grimaced for a moment. Yes. Definitely time to stop that behavior. No matter what fucking Fable the building had in mind for him.

"I didn't accuse him of trying to kill me," Kiki snapped peevishly. "Everyone else said he was fucking trying to kill me. I thought he was just being fucking horny and suddenly forgot how to fucking pick a girl up." She rolled her eyes and huffed as he kissed her, pretending to be annoyed, even though she found his gentle touches to be reassuring.

But she brightened again at the idea of invading Ed's space -- she didn't mind her reign extending to multiple units in the building -- and she shifted in Ed's arms to turn a little, draping her legs over his lap, letting the crook of his arm cradle her as she gazed up at him. "I don't do second bedrooms, baby, so I guess you're going to have move out." Her grin was wide and kittenish. "But if you're nice, maybe I'll let you bring someone home when I'm out."

Ed chuckled at her description... imagining a horny Vlad trying to "pick up" a girl by biting her neck.

"Well, gorgeous, could you blame him if he was horny enough to try extreme pick-up methods? I mean you are very, very tempting..." He ran his lips along her neck, a barest touch of lip to skin meant to tease more than take.

"I better buy myself some bedroom furniture for the 2nd bedroom...unless you think you'll need that space for a dressing room or something." Somehow he suspected that before too long she'd want him moving to a larger place, just so she could crash in comfort. He started to think that maybe if he and Vlad shared hospitality duties it would be easier. Then he gave a low laugh and kissed her temple again, "Kitten..if I'm nice enough maybe you won't make me bring someone home..." he teased gently but with a heated tone that was steeped in playful desire.

Shivering at Ed's teasing touch, Kiki made a soft noise of happiness, tipping her head back to give him better access, and she murmured, almost sleepily: "Of course not, baby, I know I'm quality goods..." Then she turned her head a little so her face was close to his. The hint of want in his voice encouraged her, and she smiled wolfishly.

"You think I'd make a good vampire?" she whispered, her lips nearly brushing against his. "Maybe I should practice on you, baby?"

"I think you'd make a good anything as long as you really wanted to make it happen..." he whispered, not closing the gap between their lips. "Practice away," he added with a predatory grin of his own--surprised by how much her confident teasing thrilled him. Used to having to be the one that always planned the first, next, and last move of a seduction, it was freeing and tantalizing to have her shift the game around. He waited for her to practice. Or not.

Delighted, Kiki shifted closer, pressing her lips lightly against Ed's neck, against the soft flutter of his pulse. His skin was warm and comforting, and for a moment, she almost sighed with contentment. Life was lived for being worshipped, Kiki thought.

Then, before she got too sentimental, she bit experimentally, gentle, but still using her teeth; then she giggled against Ed's skin. "What do you think, baby? Am I dangerous?"

Ed closed his eyes and let his hands fall gently, passively, to rest around her waist. Relaxed into the warm pleasure of her teasing he gave a slight shiver as she giggled. "Katherine, you might be the most dangerous woman I've ever met..." he answered honestly, not bothering to dissemble. The danger she presented might not be exactly the kind she was teasing about, but that didn't make it less real. His last comment was a whisper, "You'll be my undoing, Katherine...you have no idea how dangerous you are."

Ed opened his eyes and gave her a slow, gentle smile. "It would be funny...in a terrible sort of way. But I don't think I have any choice but find out what you plan to do with me. After all--you are impossible to resist."

He bent his head to kiss her throat, gently, where the angry red marks still showed. Then he looked back up at her. "I hope Vlad doesn't have any ideas about stealing you from me. I'd hate to have to ruin my friendship with him before it's even really had a chance to develop," he said--only half teasing.

"Well of course they should...I just need to know who my primary opponent is..." he laughed softly, wrapping her as close to him as he could given that the dog was still occupying most of the space i their laps. "So...did you come here tonight just to break my heart? Or am I allowed to buy you dinner or perhaps take you out for a quick shopping trip before the stores close?" He nuzzled at her neck, enjoying the soft skin and warmth of her body as well as the warmth of her tantalizing confidence and passion.

He chuckled as she kissed his jaw. "Fortunately for me my credit card is nearly damage proof. My heart is another story."

Reaching down he rubbed the dog--Quincey's--head. "I'm assuming that this fine lad is Quincey? In which case I'm not sure what Tiffany's has in the way of diamond collars, but we can look..." he said, in a playful tone.

"I should clean up quickly before taking you out--I hardly look presentable enough to be seen with you... You and Quincey are welcome to come sit in the bedroom and talk to me, if you aren't shy. Or you can wait here and help yourself to another drink." He couldn't really stand up until his lap was relinquished so he was in no hurry and just waited for her to respond.
