Hello. We’ve never quite met, but I believe you are Mr. Shepard? I’m Mina. Mina Harker.
This woman, Helena, thinks me the naïve one. She thinks that I’m too out of touch, too old fashioned, to understand what is going on with her. She thinks that I let my... story, as she likes to say, color all my perceptions of what she’s doing with her life. She’s blinded by her... affections for that man, that Vlad, and is being quite stubborn when I try to make her see reason.
I don’t think he’s good for her and I implore you to please try and help her. Perhaps I’m guided by my bias. Her husband is not unlike my own, and her decision has separated us in all ways. But Helena and I have many similarities, as do our husbands. I suspect that while you might be some differences between you and my dear friend Dr. Van Helsing, there is something that unites you two. There is a reason why you are he, and he is you.
Whatever reason there is for this Vlad to be Dracula, it must be found. And if you know it, Helena should too. She will be hard to convince, I regret to say. Your predecessor tried, I think, and was very kind to her. But his dealings with others frightened her and ruined much of his credibility with her. You, she’s beginning to trust, and so I urge you to try.
