Joker: Topic: Bedrooms
The gift shop, and the flat above it, had been vacant and shuttered for years.
Small, neglected, and oddly unnoticed in the busy seaside resort. No one even noticed as he had crept up the back staircase time and again.
It is one room, not large, only about 10 feet sqaure, plus an unimaginably small water closet. There is a rusty stove on one side, next to an equally old sink and a small refrigerator that is probably older than him, and is still lead lined. There is very little furniture - a simple cot, a small writing desk, a tv which is currently perched on a window ledge, and an old and unstable looking overstuffed armchair. One of the two small, dirty windows is opened just enough to allow a bit of the sea breeze into the musty room. At the end of the cot, a large, green, well-used traveling trunk stands open. He rummages through it, humming to himself as he meticulously hangs his few articles of clothing.
Though he's been here but a few days, one wall is already well covered. It's an odd mix - old postcards dating from Victorian times to today, various maps, photographs. Many have been "altered", either by cutting or painting or drawing. It's an organized chaos, taking on the appearance of some sort of deranged wallpaper.
Having finished with the clothing, he turns his attention to the desk, where a newpaper lies open to an article, spouting off how proud the Margate Police are at the currently record low crime rate. He draws a big smile on the Chief of Police, and then scribbles out both the mans eyes into dark x's. Next, he cuts out the picture and article, and adds it to the wall, as he continues to hum.
Yes, he thinks, it's starting to feel homey alreay.
