Davina couldn't help feeling sorry for the witch who had died. Bonnie Bennett had never done anything to her. She wasn't one of the witches that was trying to find her, and kill her. Sophie Deveraux was dead now too, killed by her own people. There was so much death. Davina knew Marcel would kill Bonnie, she'd broken the rules. Davina had to let him know there was magic going on. She was sorry Bonnie was dead, but the witch had known the risks and still made the choice to do magic. Things would get worse before they got better. Davina knew that. Sometimes she hated feeling trapped here. She wanted to get out, feel the sun on her skin, and return to her friends. But it was not to be. It wasn't safe out there. The witches still wanted to complete the Harvest ritual, and that meant slicing her throat open and killing her. Davina hadn't signed up for that. She was sixteen, just a kid, really. Marcel had saved her, and she was grateful to him for that. But she didn't want to live in a church attic forever. She just had to bide her time until the Harvest had passed. Part of her wondered though, if her death would only be temporary. Perhaps all of the girls would live again. But it was a risk, a terrifying one, and Davina wasn't sure that she was going to be able to take it. For now, she'd stay here, but she wrestled with the decision day in and day out. It got so lonely up here sometimes, with only Marcel to visit her. He was busy and he couldn't always be here. Davina understood that. She was worried about what would happen now. Watching the network let her know how people had reacted to the Bennett witch's demise. They hadn't taken it well. And they threatened to move against Marcel. Davina would stop them, if she had to. No one would hurt him, not as long as she had breath in her. But there was no telling what might happen now. |
