It threw her off. Only a little, she thought, trying to shake off the feeling he was giving her through a sip of the wine in her hand. God, no wonder Richard hated the stuff, it wasn't quite nearly as strong as Audrey would have liked. Especially right now, and especially with Richard's comment following his semi-compliment. It seemed he couldn't even pay her a nice compliment without backtracking.
Coward, she sniffed angrily, "Yes, I suppose we do. Too bad some of us can't pull it off as well as others, hmm?" She gave him a pointed look.
"You enjoy having attention, I think you'd put up with this crowd to have it," she corrected him without missing a beat. Audrey smiled, the motion coming out more genuine and less biting. "I'm sure," she snapped before making eye-contact, "Thank you, monsieur."
