"Everyone I know reads the Daily News, Mr Adams." The masked man reported, watching as the first of the fire engines arrived on-scene, "I enjoy your articles, you have a very readable style." He added, as something else within the wreckage crashed and set up another rush of sparks and he rushed back to the job in hand.
The gloves on his hands were helping protect him from the burns he was otherwise likely to have suffered as he moved closer to the destruction, the fire raging now as he used all his strength to hold up the crumbling wall, knowing that if it fell not only would it probably kill all of them, but could cause an explosion that destroyed the rest of the street if the gas main was effected.
The fire service were now ensuring the gas supply was cut, and already the building was being doused in water and thick foam which would prevent any of the flammable materials inside from catching light or exploding if the fire had not yet reached them. The building, however, was now just a burnt out-shell, the initial explosion and the destructive force of the flames having quickly sealed it's doom.
